    Morning all :)

Mam would have been 91 today. Been to put flowers for the second time this week. I'm determined not to cry today though. Her birthday deserves to be a happy time even now, and I'm trying to think back to the wonderful party last year. Kinsey is so right - mum's are a treasure.

Chalky: That is some knitting you've done! They are wonderful. I would never have the patience with all the sewing up though.

Moliere: I'm so jealous of your weather. It's not too bad here, but I could use a bit of sun and a bit of wind to dry my washing.

PTB: Hope the little ones are feeling better as the day goes on.

Alfie came home from hospital yesterday, after he had kicked a doctor and a nurse for cutting his jumper . He had an operation to pin his arm Tuesday night, and has to have another in 4 weeks to remove them. It turned out to be just above his elbow, but a bit of a worry with the op as it was very close to major nerves. One young doc had already scared the life out of Sarah by saying he may lose the use of his arm and that it could grow at an odd angle, so she was scared stiff through the 2 hour op. He's doing OK today, but running a temperature so she's going to ring the ward for advice.

My sister Kathleen came this morning which was great as she did all my housework for me. Edith came after dropping Zaki to school, then all three of us went to the cemetery. So, sitting with a clean house and nothing to do other than the washing.

Hope everyone has a good day.

oh lorna, sending you lots of hugs.
you saying your son kicked the dr reminded me of the one and only time i broke my arm as a teenager, i was wearing my favourite elvis t shirt when a fell and broke my shoulder . it was during a visit to my dads so he took me to the hospital and said they could cut the shirt if it made things easier for them . THE HECK THEY COULD!!!!!!! taking it off hurt a darn site more than the fall but there was no way anyone was taking the scissors to that shirt.
I ohpe your DS is feeling a lot better now poor thing really has been through it hasnt he

Pippa, I’ve done a couple of flowers from the book, but I think some may be too complicated for a new crocheter like me just yet.
Shaz, hope your lump is getting better, you seem to have had it ages.
Chalky, happy news about the dogs, I’m so pleased. Thank you for the puppets photos . I love your pictures, they always bring a smile to my face.
Salome, glad your dog is better, you do have a lot on your plate at the moment.
Dpixie, the view from your flat sounds lovely, it’ll be even better in summer.
Jean, that cake looks gorgeous, I really like the stitch pattern on the sides, just like roughed up icing. Any chance you could post the pattern?
    Seakay, ((hugs)) for you.
Sparrer, forgot to say hi and welcome to you
PTB, hope your little one is feeling better soon.
Kathy, hope you finish the bunnies in time for next week. Your mum’s qualities have obviously rubbed off on you.
Lorna, what a start to the year for you, hope lady luck shines on you soon. That doctor was a bit thoughtless though, wasn’t he?
Mrs m, I’m amazed how much you manage to fit into your days.

Not been doing much knitting lately, too busy with all my cuttings and corms to set off, seeds to start and fuchsias to pinch out. We’re spinning to the fat side of the sun now (hopefully)

Thinking of all the MIA’s, love and hugs to everyone, oldies and newbies both. Hope you all have a good day
    love

Kinsey - your Mum must have been a wonderful lady. (((Hugs))) to you.

Lorna - (((Hugs))) to you on your Mum's special day. ((((Hugs))) to little Alfie, too. That's a huge extended family you have!

Mrs Monepenny - thanks for visiting my blog and for your kind comments. Well done to your DS - you must be very proud of him.

Talking about having clothes cut off after accidents - my DS2 did what every mother dreads and decided, at 16, to buy himself a motorbike which he could ride on a provisional licence. DH (a seasoned motorbiker himself) said 'he'll be off that within six weeks' - and he was. He came home early one evening with the little finger of his left hand hanging on by a thread. This was about three months after he had had a major operation on his ear, so we were well used to the hospital visits. We went straight to A&E and it took them ages to decide what to do - whether to amputate or operate to save the finger. In the end, with great skill, they managed to save the finger (apparently, they said the little finger is the most important one for grip, so they didn't want him to lose it). He has a kink in it now which is quite a talking point! At the time, he was wearing DH's old leather motorbike jacket which he was really proud of, and he wouldn't let them cut it off. Luckily, they managed to save that, too. Even luckier for me, he hasn't had another motorbike and is unlikely to now that he has a mortgage, a wife, a baby and a car! We went through another two operations on his ear after the finger incident - in the end, he had had four operations in less than two years - not a time I ever want to go through again, I can tell you. At the same time as the first op, DS1 - a civil and irrigation engineer - had been sent to Zambia to devise an irrigation system for a huge sugar plantation out there. He was housed in a mud hut almost in the middle of nowhere, the only white person around for miles, and, at 6'3", the tallest, and I was really worried about him, too. I don't think I breathed properly until he had returned, and DS2 was out of hospital and recovering! DS1 has made several trips abroad to remote areas but he changed his job once DGS arrived because he realised how dangerous some of the work was - so, although he has had some amazing experiences, I am so glad his work is now in the UK!

Well, back to work, I suppose.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

    Wow!
I never thought when I started contributing to and following a knitting thread that I would 'meet' and get to know so many wonderful people with such a wide variety of extraordainary and enriching life stories to tell!
This thread really does help to keep me sane and grounded; whatever happens in my life I know that I can come on here and be reminded that there really are good and caring people in the world who take the time, whatever events are going on in their lives, to do practical things for others, and who are caring and sympathetic.
Don't want to make anyone blub, but I think that we are a great example of the way that the 'Interweb' really can give support and encouragement. People who claim that being online in a virtual world is isolating and unhealthy should read this thread in particular, and a lot of OS in general to realise how engaging it can be.
    Big hugs all around!

    Afternoon peeps :D

My friend came earlier, should have come round last week but could'nt make it. She has gone now so I am sitting here catching up and drinking tea.
She brought a load of wool for me, also books and buttons. I am really excited.....sad is'nt it?? getting excited about wool ;) Have'nt had a good look through it all yet, there are 2 black sack fulls of stuff and a huge carrier bag of knitted dolls quite big ones too from what I can see through the bag, and a bag of Jean Greenhowe books and a couple of Bazaar knits books.
Back later..... or in the morning depends how carried away I get :rotfl:

DS1 has just been on messenger and DGD has just lost her first tooth, she was sooo excited when she woke up and the tooth fairy had left her £1, she said "she was so quiet Daddy I did'nt even feel her hand under my pillow" DS1 said some of the Mums were saying their children get £5
I think thats a bit much TBH, DGD was over the moon with £1,

Managed to finish a scarf off for mrs-m last night, and started a baby cardi, still working on a ripple blanket in between everything else.

chalky - well done on those puppets they are lovely, you sure have been busy
kathy - ooo so jealous of your warm weather, although its sunny here on and off its not too warm
pol - you will soon get the hang of it, I have lost count of the times I unpicked the ones I did.Tried a butterfly as well and it does sort of look like one :)
Lorna - (((hugs))) for you and Kinsey and anyone else missing their Mum xx
Seakay - a lot of us said the same thing when we found this thread, thats because everyone on here CARES about others and does'nt mind showing it, and long may we continue, so thanks for the ((hug)) and I am sending one back x :A

OH has gone to the car auctions with DS2, there are a couple of VW campers coming up......so it looks like OH will be kept busy for a few weeks fitting them out, if they buy them that is ;)

Better go get the Shepherds pie started or we will have no Dinner tonight

Seakay - what lovely words, and I agree with you whole-heartedly! I also hear people say that the internet can be a lonely place to be and, indeed, there are people who detach themselves from the real world, but they would, anyway, whether the internet was there or not. I am also aware that not everything on the net is good and children, in particular, should be supervised when online, but there are many people for whom it is a real lifeline - those who are housebound or isolated from other people through no fault of their own, just circumstances. In my case, I use the internet for work - I work for three different companies (on a freelance basis, writing and researching) and all the jobs came via the internet. I can generally choose the hours I work and the amount of work I do. I also rely on it to keep in contact with family members (Skype is just about one of the greatest things ever invented!), and I have found this lovely website which has saved me a fortune in various ways, and, best of all, was the springboard for this fantastic thread - I consider the people I 'know' on here to be very very good friends. I have been given support when I've needed it, advice when I've asked for it, and lots and lots of that 'feel-good' factor, especially when I think of how many people on here are more than happy to donate their time and materials for those less fortunate, and not just on a whim, either - this thread is now in its third year, is growing and growing, and is a real testament to the fact that most people are good, kind, and compassionate.

Now, before I blub, I'm off to put the kettle on!

Pippa - it's not sad at all! What is sad is that I'm not there to rummage through it with you!
Don't worry about DGD's pound from the tooth fairy. My grandchildren get exactly the same - £5 for each tooth would be a lot of money per mouthful! I think a pound is just right and most children, like your DGD and my grandchildren, would be happy with that. It's great that she really believes the tooth fairy left her pound under her pillow. I love that wide-eyed wonder in children!

Hope your DH gets his camper!
