Good morning everyone.
We had a wonderful time at our friend's birthday lunch yesterday. She is a bit skint at the moment because she has one crisis after another over the last few weeks. She is desperate to get her hair done so we all clubbed together and bought her a voucher to spend at her favourite hairdresser's; well, none of us was prepared for how overwhelmed she was with this gift. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. She is a lovely person who has been through a lot (including a mastectomy a few years ago), and it felt great to have been able to help give her just what she wanted.
The party itself was lovely - great food and wonderful company. We had a great day and came back full of that warm glow that good friends provide.
Tarun Taru - thanks for your kind offer of wool. I think the idea of giving it to a charity shop is great - lots of people look in such shops for wool so it wouldn't be long before someone bought it! If not, as has also been suggested, Loving Hands will be happy to take it.
I love hearing about all your wool purchases, everyone. I expect all the Aldis have run out of it now! We have Aldi here but the nearest one is too far away from me - just as well, I really don't need any wool but I'm sure that would not have stopped me buying some!
Jean - the cost of postage to the UK scares me enough, let alone any further afield! I really cannot believe how expensive it is. I had two lots of squares and some birthday presents to post recently, and waited until we went back home to post them to keep the costs down - I'm sure I saved myself a small fortune that way!
Please do add the items you make for Algerian Action - anything for charity can be counted, whatever it is.
Maytaurus - thank you so much for letting us know how much Help the Heroes has raised. That's a phenomenal amount in just over two years, isn't it? And for such a great worthwhile cause. I know some of the troops are worried that they are not being supported back home because many people are unhappy about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, so this will go a long way to showing them that, despite the feelings about those wars, we are well and truly behind them. Just think how much good that money will do.
I'm so glad you rescued that poor little dog. I hope there is a happy ending for him. Hope Cosmo is feeling more like himself, too. I love your elderly squares - I'm sure they will be very well-received. I like the cell phone pattern and will make one for my own phone - it's a really neat design and I will do one in red, white and blue, I think. I really hope you have a 100% day soon - you deserve it.
Pippa - the understairs cupboard may be for my stash; we'll have to see! I may have to use it as a pantry until my kitchen is finished, though, but I won't have to wait too long because that's next month's job, so I've been told! Glad you had such a good day with DGS - they do wear you out but isn't it worth it to have fun with them?! He sounds so sweet and so part of the family.
Well, I am delighted at the news that Attic 24 has won the vote. She definitely deserves it - her crochet is great, she offers wonderful patterns and instructions all for free, her posts are inspirational, AND she is going through those early weeks with a newborn baby - I think those are good enough reasons for her to be a winner!
Well, I finished another Chalky square yesterday while we were driving back home from the party. I managed to finish it just before it got too dark to crochet. I really must get a hook with a light on the end of it! I shall start another one today. I'm trying to get up to twenty made, then I shall take a break and make some other things, then some more squares. They are very satisfying to make because they work up so quickly and use up all the odd scraps of wool.
Chalky - the photos on your blog are great. I love the pinky/purpley lapacuddlyghan!
Well, hopefully, this afternoon we will get back the money that the ATM didn't give to DH when he asked for it the other day. I certainly hope so - at €280, it's too much to lose! I'll let you know how we get on.
Thanks for all the great updates - they will be added later on today.
Well, off for another cuppa. Hope you all have a great day.

Good morning
Kathy What a lovely gift for your friend yesterday. It sounds like she'll really enjoy the pampering that it brings :T
I'm up & about early to get ready for my first day on the course. It should be good. I've already sorted the kitchen out & have the living room to dust and the bathroom to clean before I get ready. DH will hoover through so it'll all be neat & tidy to start the week
I cast on a preemie cardigan yesterday - the first knitting I've done since early January when I learned to crochet :rotfl: It seemed so much slower but I enjoyed doing it.
Have a good day everyone & love to all.

Hi
I hate saying goodbyes as well Chalky. My daughter who's in America comes and stays with us for 4wks each year, and brings the granchildren. It's so sad when it's time to take them back to the air port :-( This year we will be going back with them for two weeks :-) Problem then though is that we would have had 6wks together, makes it even harder to part :-(
Nearly finished my hoodie :-) My 17yr old managed to finished hers before I finished mine, though she ran out of wool, so didn't put the pocket on. She did a good job though, I only helped a little with the hood :-)
Had my friend who I taught to crochet here for dinner yesterday. She was feeling a bit low, so I invited her back after church. She had got in a pickle with her crochet, so I put that right, It did her good to have the afternoon doing her crochet with me on hand, because by the time she went home, she had mastered the corners and was hooking away with confidence :-) Also the square had actually grown, and that boosted her as well, plus some more colours to it :-)
Anyway. Off to make myself a cup of tea. I'm sat in bed typing this at the moment. The dog decided to have a bark at 6am this morning. Hubby and son totally ignoring him, even though they were down stairs going off to work, so I went down to hush him (a Rottie bark at that time of the morning is a bit on the noisy side lol) So I tidied the kitchen, made a mint tea, and came back up to bed, and thought I'd treat myself to a lie in :-) and very nice it is too :-) lol.
Have a bless and prosperous day. Hugs to all in need ((((hugs)))) love you all.

You may be aware of the recent media attention around a possible new tretment/cure for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) -for more information see this text description or see this 4 minute BBC video.
This is one of the most exciting and promising new developments. However, research is needed NOW and many of us are trying to influence the Governent to fund the urgently needed research.
Can I please ask you to consider signing the petition on this website to help influence our politicians. This is open to all UK citizens and ex-pats can also sign. I would also encourage you to watch this short and very moving clip.
and later....
Goodness me youre all quiet! Well back from the vet who says nothing major thankfully but nned to keep and eye...came out with injection (she gave us quite a fright as NOT happy about that so went from docile cat to very vocal expression of get that needle out!), special fod and a paste to settle tummy...all with a 40ish bill!
Miol lovely for your friend. One of the things I've really struggled with is haircuts as they now cost me 30 but have been keeping them to a minumum and a friend gave me a haircut for my 40th which was lovely so can understand your friends appreciation.
Lunch sounds lovely chalky!
SG hope the course went well. The first week is alays the most nerve racking I find because noone knows anyone!
W*** meeting for me tomorrow so prayers would be appreciated and much needed. Feeling very tired as not sleeping well again but am hoping GP will be able to suggest something...problem is when I do sleep I have awful nightmares so cant win either way...off for a cuppa...had to rush madam to vet so not had one yet and that wont do!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
