Morning all.
all round & prayers/thoughts to anyone who needs it.
I am seeing my sister in law today as part of our keep busy on a Saturday plan. I'm looking forward to it as she's going to have lunch and DH has treated us to some Rolo doughnuts for afters
Thanks for the advice re the LH squares for Do - I can't remember who posted it now sorryI have some lovely sky blue wool that I shall use. I'll get one 6" and one 12" started later today I hope. I also finished another ventilator bonnet in pretty pink yesterday.
I have been practising my crochet with a ball of dishcloth 'wool' that I got last week and have a few squares of treble and double now so am very pleased. I'll sew them into my eventual blanket I think and be proud of my first attempts :T
Off to hoover round now that the dogs are back from their walk & dried off. Have a good day all & I'll hopefully catch up later on.

Good morning - or rather, afternoon!
SunnyGirl - I hope you have a lovely afternoon with your SIL.
Shaz - no wool shopping for me, sadly.
Well, I've been up early prepping for the starters I'm doing for tomorrow's lunchtime dinner party, then I had to go and visit the people that DH said I would do cleaning for! It's just doing changeovers for a holiday home. DH has been doing some work on their house - he's doing the roof there today - and they happened to say that they needed someone to clean up when guests have gone ready for the next lot. DH kindly volunteered me but I don't mind. All extra pennies for the wool fund! The house is really lovely - very typically French with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two sitting rooms, and a kitchen, in the most gorgeous village about ten miles away, which I managed to find getting lost just the once! I will be changing sheets (and washing and drying them while I'm there) and just general cleaning up. DH will come with me because they want the garden looked after, too. I've given them my rates per hour and they seem happy enough with that. The house is only let around five times a year at the moment, plus when the owners visit - three to four times a year, so it won't be that often. The house is already very clean and well maintained so I don't foresee any problems - famous last words!
Anyway, with that and the fact that one of the companies I freelance online for has started giving me a lot more work, I think my wool fund will be coming along nicely this year. It's money I can put away for extras besides wool; things like taking the family out when they visit and so on.
Anyway, I am already writing out a list of the wool I need to buy when I'm back in the UK, and I just know my Mum will have a load to give me, too. I'm still trying to finish the baby's outfit but time is precious here at the moment. We will be out for most of the day tomorrow; we've been asked to stay the night at our friends' house but, TBH, we have lots to do so we will come back in the evening.
The new downlights in the front hall look really good and the plasterboarding is nearly finished in there, too, so that is another step forward. I'll take photos when it's all been plastered and painted.
Well, tonight I am determined to stay awake and carry on with my crochet - if anyone has a magic solution to not dozing off all the time, please let me know! It's not as if I'm losing any sleep at night - since my cough went, apart from one night when a neighbour's dog couldn't sleep - I've slept like a log!
Anyway, I've waffled on far too long.
I hope you are all having a good weekend.

I've not been on much for a week or so and I'm so sorry to hear all the sad news recently, especially LCWilson, my prayers and thoughts are with you all at such a sad time.
Chalky, that name banner is lovely, what a sweet name.

I set an amount of time, say - I will only iron for an hour or I'll spend two hours cleaning then stop, however much I've done!
I think the squares are all really good. This year I intend to learn to crochet properly and make something very pretty out of squares.
ISOM - enjoyed spending time with the 'select few' Will try to take a pic of the hat and mitts.0 -

i have been given a pattern by a friend, that uses sirdar bigga, knitted on 15mm needles, what can i use as an alternative, as all the super chunkys i've seen, say 10mm on the ball band, so obviously not thick enough
thanks
shaz x
You could combine yarns to get up to the correct thickness - eg 3 strands of chunky for 5mm needles or 1 10mm and 1 5mm.
A tension square would be a good idea to check.
You might find that 3 strands of aran pure wool would knit up to tension as well as 3 strands of chunky acrylic yarn, for instance.0 -
Hi everyone.
Chalky - that name flag is lovely! Lucky Jemima!
Well, absolutely no woolly stuff has been done here today. I've been busy finishing off the cooking for tomorrow's lunch party and, I must say, I've invented some lovely dips - the tomato one has been labelled 'Hot, hot, hot!!!' because it is! DH loves it but then he can eat the hottest curry known to man. I was a bit heavy with the chilli but it's still very tasty. I just need to stir fry the chicken strips in the morning, as well as make the lettuce, cucumber, olive and grape salad to rest the chicken on, then I'm done. As luck would have it, I found some new foil dishes with lids (the type that a Chinese takeaway comes in) so all the food is being packaged in them - it will save me taking my own dishes and also on the washing up!
DH worked for most of the day and I've been busy in the kitchen, so we are opening a bottle of Vino Collapsio and relaxing this evening.
Could someone remind me how big the squares need to be for Do on LH? I would like to make some but haven't really committed myself because I seem to have so little time at the moment. I think one of them was 6" so I shall make a start on one tonight, I think. I could do with some straightforward crocheting to do.
Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good day.
Lots of (((hugs))) to all in need.
