    Hi Mrs MP
Chalky suggested doing a special project to run through the year doing squares which she has (insanely!) volunteered to sew into blankets etc. the idea is that the postage shouldn't cost any of us too much. Hopefully Chalky will be along later with anything I missed, but i think she may be travelling at the moment.
    Squares are 8 inch

Hi Mrs Moneypenny Chalky asked if we fancied a new challenge to run along side the others knitting 8" squares. She is going to sew them together and then we are going to decide collectively where we would like to see them sent.

It's DK wool on 4mm needles so approx 40 sts and 40 rows in any colour, style or pattern. Some people are crocheting them but I'm not good enough for that yet so I'm knitting bright stripes at the moment!

Sorry that I can't find the original post to link to I've just popped on here really while I'm waiting for the coroners office, MIL's GP and other various people to ring me back.

Thanks for the support everyone you are all stars.

K2tog We crossed posts! I forgot to say that the next time Chalky is in the UK is April so that's when the first batches can be sent to her.

Hope I've got all of this right lol!

mrs m - I dont think it matters how many chalky squares I think it was just see how many we get by end of year (I think that was time scale)
mioliere - yes a visit to the Dr would be good idea - you have had it for some time and the bad back (you never know it might be some sort of infection) best to get checked out - My mum's back was bad once and felt unwell and it was err pluresy (is that how you spell it ????) so better to be safe than sorry xx

may - good to see you - lovely post xx
roamin - is the snow past the window yet ??? - xx

I was embarressed to see someones stash could be put in a storage box! - mine is in two large storage (one box you sit on and a large fabric storage bag)and I think there is a couple of balls lurking in the cupboard they are full and there is no more room in the boxes ..... I just cant stop giving it a home if someone gives me some or the charity shop - its so hard to get here Im worried I will run out - do you think there is a phobia for this "wooloutaphobia" "nowoolaphobia";) - if so Ive got it .....

Sunny Girl, sorry to hear about your DMIL, tender thoughts and prayers being sent to you.
PRfungi - did you suggest a shawl to keep warm a while back - well picture the scene, GREEN welly boots, daft RED WHITE AND BLUE knitted hat, VIOLET home made wrist warmers and to finish it all off my beautiful tones and shades of GREY posh pashmeena - which was used for the theatre in my previous life. So I believe I should be knitting or cobbling up something a wee bit more robust for this joint.
F1 Widow - went past the window two days ago, now its falling off the roof so I expect to be able to see out again about March!
I am having a quiet day today, cleared a bit of the courtyard for the car to sit yesterday - yep DH did make it home, worn out and frazzled, my muscles (ha that's a joke) are a bit achy from the effort.
I hope you are all keeping warm as toast and being extremely careful if you are out and about.
    the sun is out
    but unfortunately not here
(well somewhere in the world- its bound to be!)

Hello all. Just a thought about the 8" squares.

I have a book called 'Woolly Thoughts' which is all about the principles of modular knitting, and the author is a great advocate of knitting diagonally - you just start with 2 stitches and increase the 1st stitch of each row until you have a triangle with the two 'hanging' sides each measuring 8", then start decreasing. By doing it this way you don't need to worry about yarn thickness, needle size or tension, the squares will always be 8".

This seemed very logical to me as a lazy knitter with a huge and widely diverse stash so I thought I'd pass it on. Hope someone finds it useful.
Oh dear, here we go again.
  • Afternoon all.

Sunny Girl - thinking of you and yours

I have decided that this month will be the time to finish off all those unfinished projects that are lurking in knitting bags and storage boxes - they can't stay there for ever, and really it would be better if someone can use/wear them wouldn't it. So with that in mind, yesterday I dug out a blanket (v. big) that I started many moons ago. It only needs nine squares to finish it, so two completed and another on the needles. Hopefully this week should see it finished. Then its on to a scarf (funny wool). I WILL DO THIS!!!!
    I am a woman on a mission!!!

Take care all and stay warm.

    Ann xx

Sunnygirl - sorry to hear about your MIL, but she`ll be at peace now, like Pam`s mum. Hugs for both of you.
Here`s a link to the boob pattern for you.

Kathy, you should try a good hot toddy for that cough. Hot water, whisky and a spoonful of honey or sugar if you prefer. Can`t stand the stuff myself but Jim used to swear by it.

Thanks for the patterns Maytaurus, been busy as usual, hope you`re feeling a bit better every day.

Hope everyone who has been a bit poorly / under the weather for whatever reason is feeling better today. Have a (((hug))) if needed.

    See you later.
