Happy New Year everyone, I've been on holiday since Boxing Day so I have just been catching up on all the posts. Looking forward to getting knitting baby bits and bobs and hopefully some squares now that everything is back to normal.
ISOM - remember the pattern I copied from your book for wrist warmers with the matching hat? I knitted both for my DDs for Christmas and they loved them, they couldn't believe that I hadn't bought them (puffs out chest with pride, haha). I added a few sequins for effect but they turned out wonderfully, the hardest part was the corsage and beads but it definitely finished them off. Thanks so much.
Right, I'm going to give my Mum some more wool and zero my totals ready . . .0 -
hello ap! Happy new year! Do you have any piccies? People loved the ones I did too...even though some only cost £2!! We missed you yesterday!
Have just cast on a tank top to make for Fergs birthday in mch...fingers crossed! Thethrow I started looked awful and I've concluded that I need patterns where I can see stitches close up!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hello from a very cold and snowy Aberdeen. Had about another 3" of snow on top of what was lying before and more to come, so I`m now officially fed up of snow !!! Having a laugh just now though..........a gritter finally came round, first since christmas eve, and it`s stuck :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:!!
The snow hasn`t been cleared at all and we`ve had to just drive in the `tracks`- obviously the gritter driver didn`t do that and he`s landed over on a grassy verge. And the council expect us to be able to drive through it with ordinary cars ? - no chance  A digger has just arrived to pull the gritter back on to the road :Thooray we`ll maybe get the road cleared a bit. it`s ok if you have a 4x4 but low bodied cars scrape the underside on the hard packed snow - bound to cause some damage I would think.
DS heard on the news just a wee while ago that residents should be clearing the roads outside their houses - he wondered if the council would refund some council tax money if they did, somehow I don`t think they would. Sorry - rant over:o.
Well, still doing the squares as I haven`t been able to get to a wool shop yet, never mind at least I`m not spending any money - sigh- and I`m reducing the stash mountain, yay.
Lots of schools closed including the one the grandchildren go to, the heating isn`t working, so don`t have DGS to look after today, more knitting time - if I wasn`t sitting here at the `puter.
Fire will be going on soon so will be nice and cosy, shame I have to go out later though, just hope the young `uns don`t let it go out before I get home again.
Right, clock says it`s time for tea -or in my case coffee- so see you later. Keep warm everyone.

Hi everyone. First time on here for me today. With snow forecast tomorrow, I decided to do another food shop in case we get snowed in. This afternoon, I had to get some online work done, so I've been concentrating on that.
I finished another square last night, and made two of Pam's hearts to sew on to it.
Chalky - is it just hearts you want on the squares, or other things as well?
Shaz - I've been up all night coughing too; apparently, there is a coughing virus doing the rounds here - it's probably the same in the UK. Hope yours goes away soon.
The weather over there sounds horrendous from what I've read in all your posts. I've seen it on the UK news, too. We have -6 degrees here; absolutely freezing cold and, as I say, snow on the way tomorrow, and again at the weekend. I put loads of food out for the birds this morning and they ate it in no time. The water I put out just keeps freezing over, though, so I hope they are coping.
Always Poor - I'm so pleased that your knitted pressies went down so well. Well done. As ISOM said, we would love to see photos!
Well, I hope you're all keeping warm and safe. Take care if you have to go out.

Afternoon all
Did'nt drive to Mums after all, OH dropped me off on the way to his Mums.
Was sitting chatting with Mum and it started snowing and O did it snow, great big flakes, covered everything in no time. At least they both have well stocked freezers and fridges and lots of soup, bread, milk and stuff that is easy and fairly quick to do.
It took OH an hour to get from his Mums to come and pick me up. Glad I didnt have to drive
I forgot to say OH bought me the Crochet mag on Saturday, I am tempted to subscribe to it on-line as there are quite a few freebies in the first few weeks which, if I am reading it rightyou don't get if you buy it from a shop. Ah well there's loads of time to think on it yet.
Need to do some more wrist warmers for DGD's "in blue please nanny" looks like the pink revolution is on the way out, with one of them loving yellow and the other edging towards blue....well we will see
Elaine - no gritters been seen here at all, said on the news earlier grit is in short supply,
AP -ooo well done :T
PTB - what about a furry scarf stripey or plain, furry wrist warmers, furry beanie hat, furry ankle warmers, furry body warmers for LO's(not babies though) and the very best of all has already been suggested,Hedgies:rotfl:
Shaz - hope the cold clears up soon
OK confession time ....I have just ordered some Sirdar Foxy in Chinchilla from Knitwell did'nt mean to but the price was right, saved well over 20 quidand I just love Foxy anyway.
Off to the sofa to start the wrist warmers

Pippa - my DGD1 used to love pinks, purples, princesses and fairies. That's all changed now - and she's just joined a girls' cricket team and really loves it, so all my pinks will be directed towards DGD2! Glad both Mums have stocks of food to save them worrying in this horrid weather. (((Hugs))) to both of them.
I've just been sent an email about this http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces The animal rescue site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it - every click helps towards providing food and care for rescued animals. I click on the site daily (well, TBH, I stopped over Christmas but will definitely make it a daily thing again from now on) because it also helps with other causes like breast cancer, literacy, the rainforest, hunger, and so on. It only takes a few seconds for each click.

Hi All.
I have finally cracked crochet :T:T:T:T Well a single crochet half a square that I plan on finishing tonight, anyway :rotfl: The school and college are both closed & the snow is 15" deep in the front garden so we've all stayed in & I've crocheted and the kids have all eaten me out of house & home, built a snowman & a snowlady, watched dvd's, messed around on FaceBook and played some card games. Poker was being played for glass beads the last time I went upstairs by the elder 3They get too annoyed with DS3 trying to teach him poker as he doesn't get it at all (don't blame him) and keeps trying to collect 3's & 4's of things a la Rummy :rotfl:
I'm am very pleased with myself for getting to grips with the crochet & would also like to thank you ladies on here for all the very useful links and advice. No doubt I'll be getting stuck soon and crying for help!
I shall cast on another square tomorrow in various colours to use up lots of odd bits. I fancy a different colour going round each complete square although sewing the ends in will be a nightmare :cool:
No more news on MIL I'm afraid. She is not talking much now & is sleeping a lot. The staff don't think it'll be long now but it's hard to tell. Thank you for all your good wishes & prayers.
Have a good evening I am about to go and make the tea to feed the 'starving' hoardes - according to them!0 -
Sunnygirl, sending you good wishes and prayers for MIL.
Well since I last posted I have completed another 2 squares, crochet again but in different styles. I do like crocheting more than knitting these days! May try the crochet hearts (forgotten who posted- thanks), and then move on to some more burial things as I want to get a package off to Bonnie Babies soon. Need also to check the Loving Hands pages, see what challenges they might have for the first part of 2010! All go! Might also think of something to knit for me, and have a jumper on the go for DS too.
Hope everyone is getting on ok,

hi
can anyone help me with this query? I just bought some wool off ebay to make my cat blankets with and on the item description it said Sirdar but when it arrived today the label says Hayfield. Does anyone know if Sirdar have changed their name or whether Hayfield is a branch of Sirdar before I let the seller know?
Thanks0
