Hi everybody, you're all so busy and I've done very little, feeling rough with sore throat, swollen glands etc. Must push myself a bit.
mrs.moneypenny I think you can safely say you are a crocheter now.
Thanks for links Maytaurus and Pam.
f1widow best of luck with your new year resolution.

Shelly Thank you for the PM. I shall wait until I've got a few made up before I send a biggish parcel off. I never thought to check out carriers so will do before I give my business to Royal Mail as it were

No knitting done today ... yet .... although we are all bathed & in our jammies already in this house so I may get the needles clacking soon :rotfl: DS2 & DS3 were both freezing & shattered after their first day back at school and DD & DS1 are getting ready for being back tomorrow I think & getting done early, although I did spy on DD's Facebook that she was asking when the maths test tomorrow is  She is doing a childcare diploma (the old NNEB) but they need to do maths if the'r results at GCSE weren't brilliant.

Have a good evening all I am getting kicked off the computer now by DS2 as it's 'his' time :p:p

If your crochet chain is very tight & keeps twisting, you’ll probably find that loosening your tension will sort it out, have a look at this video, I think it might help, there’s a list of other crochet videos on the same page

    Hi Everyone
Lovely long post May - hope that means you are feeling more like your old self. Have decided that taming my stash would require a bullwhip and a chair. And then guess what.... leaflet through the door from readicut today - TEMPTING me! I've had mixed results with them and still have a pot luck WIP that I made a very small start on in the summer :o so trying to talk myself out of it. Will of iron, me .
Well done Mrs MP - I only learnt to crochet through being on here amongst encouraging people. It sounds like you did a lot less stropping about it than I did - hook and tangled mess disappeared into WIP pile for weeks at a time until I got the hang of it. I wonder if you will start to prefer it over knitting? That might be an interesting poll on here....
I'm doing it again - burbling on and not getting stuff done . Off to make a start on something - not sure what as haven't got round to doing my to-do list yet :rotfl:Anyone noticing a pattern?

    Morning all :hello:
Well I don't believe it, I am first on today been a long time since I beat you lot to first post :rotfl:

Finally finished the 3rd ripple blanket, well I say finished I still need to edge it off but that should'nt take long

May - thanks for the lovely posts especially the long eared hat and scarf, OH has printed it off, cant wait to make a start on it now
chalky - I made a start on some squares last night, in the brightest colours I can find, will add to them and keep them all until you are ready for them
k2tog - BE STRONG you can do it :rotfl:
mrs-m - well done with the crochet :T
Kathy - sorry to hear your friend is so poorly hope gets better soon. I must be very lucky, I had the flu and the swine flu jabs 6 wks ago, just had a headache and the swine jab was a bit swollen up the nurse did say it may do that, but apart from that nothing.
Shelley - will do you some ties and send them with a few cardies I have done.

Well better go get showered and dressed before I take Mums shopping over to her, I really dont relish the thought of going out but it has to be done. Then planning an afternoon on the sofa with my knitting.

    Have good days all

  • Good morning all, and as it's my first post of 2010, a HAPPY NEW YEAR to each and every one of you all!!

Well, finally finished my dolls clothes for DS's school last night: 6 skirts, pairs of trousers, knickers, jumpers and bootees - took me ages! Anyway, I know they will be appreciated which is the main thing.

    New Year's Resolutions here knitting wise;
I WILL NOT buy any more wool until I have depleted some of my stash...
I WILL sort out my stash and decide on worthwhile and helpful things to make with it all
I WILL NOT visit Kemps website (oops....) or at least, I can look, but I WILL NOT buy anything

    And...
    I WILL learn to crochet!!!

hmm - wondering if I can find the willpower. anyone any ideas on what I can do with oodles of funky fur stuff!?

well, DS was at school yesterday after the holidays, but school is closed today until 10.30am to allow staff to get in through the "blizzard" we are experiencing at the moment. Must have had an inch of snow in the last half hour, so I can't see school opening today to be honest! Thankfully, I had already booked the morning off work yesterday as DH has had to go out and I was stuck with childcare for DD....I am meant to be going in at lunchtime, but all the roads are gridlocked at the moment, so we shall see what happens. The wonders of flexitime I suppose!! It's proper snowing too, really big flakes and sticking like mad -

Anyway, another cup of coffee calls whilst I am watching kiddie tv....(and singing along to I'm A Little teapot; I think I am beyond help!)

take care and stay warm and safe,

    Dawn xx

Morning - oh purpleteddybear has made me chuckle "Im a little teapot" :rotfl:- I miss kiddie tv if I was to be truthful:rotfl: being 8 you are so grown up these days!!! its CITV etc -

Take care all of you that are venturing out today - we have just a few flutterings this morning - but have seen on the news how bad it is elsewhere.

Last night finished another flap ventilator hat (my first 4ply ta da.......) and started a square using the corner to corner method(??? Is that what you call it when you start with one and increase ???)
I really admire the crochet starters - I keep looking and having a little try brought the 99p mag & DVD - have to say had a look and been put in my stash !:o

Well cup of tea and then its paperwork time hmmmmmm
I noticed you mentioned audio tapes - I have a load picked up by my friend at charity shops, car boots etc - I like Miss Read (village stories ) and BBC humour Are you being served etc - only prob is my tape player is on its last knockings - I listen iron or knit do the housework - better than the TV sometimes.

Anyway have a good day and take care all of you - catch up soon xxxx

    Morning!
Dawn - funky fur = hedgies :D. They are really easy and LH take them for the toy challenges and you don't have to do quite as many as Chalky :rotfl:.
Jaqui, keep trying with the hooking. Part of the problem with learning crochet is the first stitches into the foundation chain are always tricky which can be really offputting. You will get there! Now I'm wondering about buying the crochet mag....
Pippa and anyone else venturing outside in the snow and ice, take care and stay warm.
Back later after I have done chores - need to get the slow cooker on!

    Hi
No snow here yet, although we do have some forecast. Very cold though.
Did some more to the dolls clothes for my grandaughters lol.
Just finished getting all the school up together. Suprising how much time that can take. Ought to do it the night before really, but I'm usually too tired to concentragte properly.
I have quite a few squares here for Chalky. I'll wait till April though and get them to you then :-)
Have a blessed and prosperous day all of you. Hugs to everyone who needs them :-)
