Zippy, I second what Pam has said - double knit (DK) wool and 4mm needles. And try not to be tempted by "novelty" yarn for a while as it always looks interesting but can be a pain to knit with so I would keep away from it to begin with. Also the DK will work well with a 4mm crochet hook. Any questions or hitches, just ask because there's usually someone about. Good luck!

If you can knit and purl but have trouble with them together, why not try a simple knit2, purl2 rib for practice as it will be easy to see if you have gone wrong

Is anyone surprised to hear that I'm supposed to be doing something else just now???

Believe it or not I'm writing xmas cards !
Its working out at 2 cards per visit to the thread - oops! its now the 22nd :o. Promise I'll finish writing them tonight & post tomorrow (1st class) but I bet the one to New Zealand doesn't get there in time - oops!

The family ones will be going special delivery anyway so they shouldn't be a problem - as to the rest of the gang, I'm sure they've got used to it by now, I'm always on the last minute :o:rotfl::rolleyes:

    luv

I knew i wasn't totally silly! The number is written on the top, so when it is pointing down it says 6, or if i rotate it 180 degrees, 9 :rotfl:

Must read some of this thread and see how it all works, seems pretty friendly.:D

    Good morning everone,

Elaine thinking of you today ((hugs)) hope you have some positive news about your son. Can't say I blame him for wanting to be at home. Is your daughter feeling better?

Pam your mum sounds like a great character, I know what you mean about the guilt/anxiety, and probably feeling that you are the one responsible if anything goes wrong in her life at all, and it doesn't matter how many people tell you you're doing everything and more to keep her happy and well. I guess it's a 'daughter thing'and you love her. But here's another one telling you just that.

Zippychick you can buy little pieces of plastic with holes in and needle sizes marked on them in imperial, metric and sometimes American as well ( just to confuse things a bit more). It's amazing the maths knitters do in their heads, but give it to us as a normal maths problem and it's no go.

Keep warm everyone, lots of love. xxxx

Hi everyone. I'm a bit late because I decided to get out and about early this morning running errands. Essential ones like paying electric bills and so on! It's warmed up slightly today but was cold and very windy in the night. No snow, though, which makes it easier to get around.

Elaine - you're not allowed to apologise on this thread. We are all here for each other, no matter what. I always find it helps to write things down, so feel free to come on here however you feel. It's been a hard year for you, hasn't it? I just wish we could all come and visit you and hold your hand. I hope there's good news about your DS soon.

Well, it sure feels strange not to be planning Christmas dinner for a change! Much as I will enjoy having it cooked for me, I miss it too much, so, wherever in the world we are this time next year, I shall be cooking Christmas dinner!

I was very tired yesterday and could have finished off another pair of wristwarmers, but I fell asleep, then carried on doing the waffle stitch at the wrong row, so had to unpick it. That pattern looks lovely but I always find it hard to work out where I am, so I'm being sensible and using a row counter!

Well, back to the grindstone, I suppose! See you all later.

Thank you all for the loving warm wishes you sent to me via the ether yesterday - the wafted over me all day. I had a smashing time, got lots of lovely presents and cards only spoiler was the flight with DS onboard was held up due to snow - he landed just before midnight 6 hours late then just over 2 hours to drive down, all well tho' safe and sound. I have taken down my cards and will now do the tree decs and all the other stuff. May have to partake of a mince pie or two to get in the mood. Play my cards right and I could have a little drop of the vino collapsio too!
Elaine, thinking of you especially today (sending big huge cuddles), I hope you get some resolution with DS too.
Off to catch up with the forum then, back a bit later - and steal a rib crushing hug from DS!

Jean - so glad you're DS arrived safely, if a little later. I bet you love having him around, don't you?! Glad you had such a good birthday.
