PS - posts crossed - slip the first stitch for a neater edge
What does that mean? Slip the first stitch?:)

Hi, hope someone can point me to the right post. I've been following the crochet thread, and someone is making a ruffly or curly scarf, which they said was on the knit your square thread. However, as there are three threads, with hundreds of posts in each one, can someone please give me the link for the right post
Many thanks in advance.

Well done zippy! :j
slip the stitch means to put the right hand needle into the stitch on the left needle as if to knit and then just move the rh needle to take the stitch off the lh needle - ie, you do not wrap the wool around the needle at all.
hope this makes sense
This is for the first stitch in each row only0 -

i did a bit of normal stitch, then rows of knit, then row of pearl, then knit then pearl. So the knit pearl bit is narrower. If i do the ribb k2p2 will it change size again , or be the same size as the rows of knit pearl knit pearl?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Good evening all.
Way to go Zippy :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T Knit 2 Purl 2 rib is sometimes a little tighter to look at as it's meant to be stretchy for going over arms and heads etc. It'll stretch slightly as you sew the squares together. Pin the corners together first then pin the middles and it should all work out.
I am going to go into town tomorrow & get my last bits for Christmas and a few last minute food things so I'll have a gander in the wool shop while I'm there. Am I right in thinking that we are knitting squares of 8" x 8" (40 sts x 40 rows) on 4mm needles and DK wool, in any colour/pattern combo we fancy? I won't be too adventurous just fancied some basket weave & stocking stitch squares. If it's a certain colour or pattern required then let me know & I'll accomodate. I'll check the thread before I go in the morning. Hope I've got the gist of this correct.
I'm looking forward to getting stuck in and squares are lovely & easy to do in the evenings. It takes me back 14 years when I knit a dolls blanket of basket weave squares for my DD's first dolls pram. It was so pretty in lilac, pale pink & white with a crocheted edging (done by a crochet mad friend I can't do it) Oh for the days when they were little & delighted that Father Christmas brought them knitted doll's clothes :D
Have a good evening everyone & I shall 'see' you in the morning.
p.s. What are we doing with the squares/blankets when they are finished? Sorry to seem thick:o

goodness me dont come on for a day and a gazillion posts...apologes in advance if I forget anything!
Hello and hugs may - keep resting mrs - hope mum and dad ok
welcome zippychick! Re scarf I managed to get some funky wool from hobbycraft and just did a knit two purl two rib and it was yummy - really thick wool with differents strands iykwim! If you can I would stick to some kind of pattern to start with - ie knit two rows, purl two rows or knit tow stitches purl two or it may look more unique than you would like! knit a row and purl a row looks nice and smooth...if you go to knitting pattern central they have lots of patterns free!!
I am currently making an ipod sock - knit tow purl two rib for about 6 rows; then knit a row purl a row until its required length then back to first 6 rows; cast off; sew up and voila! A christmas pressie for under 2!!
Elaine bg hugs foryou and ds...hard time of year for you anyway as the "first" one to overcome without the extra worry and stress of hospital visits...good though that you can both be honest enough with each other to have a weep. Totally agree with the others - no need to apologise for sharing that with us..Prayers coming your way.
Had a busy couple of days here and trying to get the last things done...need to finish off two pressies and wrap tonight before mum gets here; there is a leak going downstairs so plumber coming out tomorrow first thing bless him (hes a sweetie and doesent even charge a callout fee!) to try and find it - I cant see anything...had friends and two children for tea - interesting to have toddlers in a 1 room with a cat and 3 adults but we managed!! The 3 yr old loves the cat and comes out with some crackers and is soooo sweet! Tomorrow is finishing washing; chaging sheets; quick round with hoover and I'm done! Will try the christmas vodka tonight!! yummy me thinks!
hugs those that need them - esp those who cant be close to family; safe travel for those journeying - its been awful drivning here - like an ice rink yesterday so I'm happy being snug here ith little puss cat snuggles by me - she want out the cat flap for first time today but I think found it a bit cold!!!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hmmm i dont know whether to keep doing the knit a row purl a row now. Or whether to change for some colours? Pic time?
Right this has taken me three hours.... he he
The way the plain stitch is at the bottom - was what I was trying to explain, but I will finish the scarf the same way so it's a "feature". Should i change the stitch with this new colour to k2p2 or just keep doing what Im doing?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

It's entirely your choice Zippy. The stocking stitch that you've done so far looks great but you could change it to whatever you fancy really. You could repeat the colour pattern as it is or mix up both the colour ways and stitches. Let your imagination run riot!0
