Shaz and any other mad sock knitters - I'm going to try socks again so I wondered if you could point me in the direction of any good tutorials/books/tips that helped you? I'm even working up to trying dpns again but maybe will retreat to 2 circulars if I get really stuck!
    Thanks in advance

Hi k2tog - I'm not a proper sock knitter, but this tutorial is highly recommended on Ravelry!

I'm hoping to try some in the new year - hope you can help me out by then.

Don't hold your breath Pam! But I will do my best. I think last time I used 4 dpns and I'm sure I read somewhere that 5 were better, but I will research. Thank you for the link. Have you managed to see your Mum lately?

Thanks for asking - yes I saw her today - yippee :j- she was in good form & very proud of her new (funky) glasses which really suit her. Great to see her, it took away the little knot of guilt/anxiety that was building in me!

I also heard that 5 dpns were better than 4 - @I think Shaz told us! Must dmit I've treated myself to some lovely "knitpro" ones & they are in 5s.

    luv

Ok. I can knit although not very well. I have a set of size 12 needles and another set - either 6 or 9 - dunno?:rotfl:

I have a reel of lemon wool from a machine (oh and a machine i dont know how to work from freecycle). I can knit and pearl although i dont seem to be able to master them on the same line? Yet. Any ideas?:D

My friend can crochet so is going to show me tomorrow, so fingers crossed for that! Oh, think i will go wool shopping tomorrow!:j

I have the cute crochet kit and my magazine so hopefully once i get started, no stopping me. I keep seeing all these cool things thinking " i know soon i will be able to make a better one" . I just need to get the hang of it. :o

Hi zippychick - firs of all, have a look at the tutorials here:

    http://www.knittinghelp.com/

I'm sure you'll find them helpful.

If you are planning to buy some wool, can I suggest you buy some "double knitting" - if you are at a "wool shop" they usually have some remnants - at mine they are 99p a ball and - if possible buy a pair of 4mm needles.

This is the most common combination we use. When you're looking at things on the internet the majority of patterns you'll find are American and they use different names for the weights of wool/yarn & needle sizes - this link might help:

Well done for giving it a go and good luck. Remember practise is the key and give a shout here when you get frustrated with it.

Hi all, just popping in to catch up and unwind before bedtime.

Well despite hating to have to drive in the snow and ice - that`s just what I`ve had to do. DS came home from work Sat night complaining of sore stomach. Went to wake him for work on sunday morning and he tells me he`s feeling worse - has chest pain as well now  Rang NHS24 and after giving details was told to get him to accident & emergency asap. Concerned as he has a valve which will need to be replaced some time.

He was eventually admitted to the infection unit as the doc thought he might have picked up something when he was on holiday in the Philippines at the beginning of November..so had to wear the gloves, mask, apron as a precaution  if he had anything I`d have caught it by now anyway. Talk about shutting the stable door after the horse has gone !!!!!!
Tests came back negative so now he has to have an echocardiogram and some sort of scan tomorrow, he couldn`t remember what kind of scan tho`. Don`t have to faff with the gloves etc now.
He`s not a good patient - wants to come home NOW. No chance of that - I took him up to the hospital cafe for a change of scene and he said his chest was sore again - back to the ward smartish and had to have more painkillers. He ain`t a-comin` home till he`s sorted.:p

Told me he had a weird dream last night - said his Dad was standing at the foot of his bed _pale_ It would have been Jim`s birthday tomorrow so we had a weepy moment or two together.:o

Sorry for off loading again, but I know you will understand and I really appreciate the support you`ve given me over the past few months.

ps Zippychick - hold the pointed end down towards the floor and read the number - that will be the right one.

You're really getting it thrown at you at the moment Elaine. It makes it extra hard when they aren't good patients doesn't it? Hopefully they will test DS for everything pronto and get him sorted. I hope you all have a not-too-difficult day tomorrow and we are all here if you need to moan, shout, whatever. Take care.
