Hello Everyone, so sorry I’ve not been posting this week – no particular reason, I’ve just been in a very strange mood, I think its because I’ve been unable to visit Mum ‘cos there’s noro virus in the home, (Mum’s been fine, no probs there) this gave me a few unstructured days which I didn’t manage very well – hmmm!
I managed some knitting but the pigging scarves for DGD & DGS are not yet finished – not to worry, I can take/send them after Christmas – I’d forgotten how long they can take + the fashion for extra long scarves doesn’t help! The matching hats are done, for a little light relief as a break from the scarves.
With luck I can take them with me when I visit after Christmas, I’m hoping to drive up to Crimond, Aberdeenshire, next Sunday or Monday, weather permitting – as I’m driving up & staying with DS I can make a decision based on the weather at the time!
Chalky75 – a project for us all is a wonderful idea – just what we need to blow the cobwebs away in the new year, I like the idea of squares, we could have fun with them, is this the charity you were thinking of…………….

Welcome to all the newbies, I’m sure you’ll like it here, there are so many caring people to share your thoughts with, and the knitting/crochet stuff they turn out is amazing.
Huge (((HUGS))) for everyone, keep warm and safe,
‘bye for now
luv

PFUNGI -- Thanks so much for that link, it looks a really worthwhile charity and just imagine if we could tuck a teddy or 2 in with each blanket made of squares from us all.
http://www.knitting4charity.org/
Please have a look at Pams link as an idea for us all. Lots of scope for everyone to incorporate their own ideas and I am sure they would love anything we could send.
This was the actual organisation that I had been told about but I can't see any specific requests for knitted items.

They are though asking for donations of materials for Craft Work Shops so I might start a little collection of balls of wool. There is a UK postal address.
Anyway Dirty Dancing has really mucked up my counting but nearly finishrd the wrist warmers
Sleep Tight everyone and keep warmTry and do a good deed every day.0 -

Will check on linkies tomorrow...can hardly keep eyes open! Hugs pfungi...when youre used to being there for someone its a huge gap when, for whatever reason, you cant...
love the games!! What a talented bunny you are! Love the snow pics! Can understand people being stressed with the impact of snow but I'm one of those who will find it magical to the day I die...hate driving in it though!
Deliriously happy to report scarf finished; counsin collected hers today and she loved the scarf, vodka (lemon and christmassy varities) as well the the little dish with felted hearts so am chuffed...well worth all the hard work. I want to have a bash at a cabled ipod cover for best mates lovely husband but am them finished!
sleep tight all...have had a brain wave for a box to keep wool away from madam while knitting...will report back when I've made it! Shes been driving me nuts tonight - sat quietly for ages but since 11 has knocked of cast iron candle; eaten wool, needles, knocked off angel candle and been a very cute pain in the bum!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

Hi all.
Maytaurus - good to hear from you. I hope things are looking up for you and your family. Lots of (((hugs))) to you all.
Chalky - the knitting4charity looks like a very worthwhile cause, doesn't it? Those children's lives are truly blighted, and it would be lovely to try and help make things a little better for them. The idea of teddies, too, is fantastic.
Jean - that snow! You've had it far worse than we have down here. We had lots of rain yesterday afternoon and the snow completely disappeared, which I'm pleased about really, because I hated driving in it.
Well, I've nearly finished one of the fingerless gloves I'm making. I love that pattern that Pam posted the link to; I've done the first four rows in cream, then the rest in the lovely green I found in my stash, and the combination of the two colours is really pleasing. I shall be making a few more pairs throughout the year for presents for next year! Nothing like starting early, is there?!
ISOM - Louis has started biting chunks out of any cardboard boxes he can find; I have no idea why but I have to make sure he can't get to any! He's definitely one of the most unusual cats I've ever had - must be because he is French!
I'm off to the hairdresser's this afternoon. I wasn't too happy with my last visit and was trying to wait until we went back to the UK so that I could go to my usual salon, but it really needs a trim, so I'm hoping for a proper trim today. It's a different salon to last time, so fingers crossed!
It seems so strange not to be planning Christmas dinner this year. We're spending the day with friends of ours so will be taking lots of other goodies with us as our contribution. I thought we'd take a few different cheeses, some wine (of course!), and some choccies. Jean - our Leader Price here has had some lovely big boxes of choccies in. I've bought a massive one for my Mum which will probably last for months! I'm so pleased I found that supermarket - it's a lot cheaper than all the others. Not so big a choice of things, but the prices are great. I always go there first when I do my big shop.
Anyway, I'll call in later.

Good morning.
It's freezing here & the snow that fell yesterday has frozen solid  I'm not driving in it. DS2 has his college interview at 10am but we'll get the bus. He is hoping to be accepted for the 4 A Levels he wants to do so I'll have my fingers crossed for him. It's a great college and DD & DS1 are very happy there already.
The scarf is almost finished as I did a lot last night whilst DH was watching the tv
Happy Birthday to Jean Hope you have a good one.I'm off to look through the link that was posted for charity knitting now it looks great from the wuick look I've had :T
Stay warm & safe everyone.0 -
Happy Birthday Jean -- Wow its a White Birthday-- Have a great one and your pictures are wonderful-- just freezing znd frosty here !!
Well I awoke early-- As my little blog shows I have been trying to avoid the manic side of Christmas but as the week has begun I can ignore it no longer so LIST it is and then one last shop. Then no matter what I am thinking of other things!!!
Well when I woke I could only think of all things square So I am going to start 8" squares and try and be as inventive or maybe just plain, depending on stress, busyness, levels of vino collapso etc etc oh and cooking and Christmas in general of course.
I am itching to start some knitting for charity again as I have been so busy with Christmas gifts.
So even if we decide not to do the theme of squares. Any I knit will always be welcome at Loving Hands.
The patterrn for the diagonal square on Loving Hands has a nice edging which makes the sewing up easier as it pulls or gets pushed into a square shape more easily when sewing up the blankets.
Obviously I am going to make an 8 inch square and according to the info on Knitting for Africa I have copied and pasted below as I know how busy we all are
Knitting for Africa is part of the Knitting for Charity Group
Making Blankets
It is a lot of fun and immensely satisfying making blankets. It is a good way to use up scraps of wool and different effects can be achieved with colours and by using different stitches. Add to the challenge by trying new stitches in a manageable size!
The quickest and easiest knitting method is to cast on 40 stitches (adjust according to tension) of double knitting wool on size 8 (4mm) needles. Continue in garter stitch until work measures 8" x 8" (20 x 20 cm). Cast off loosely and sew in ends.
To make a diagonal square, cast on one stitch and increase one. Knit. Increase at the beginning of the next row, knit to end. Continue increasing one at the beginning of each row until sides measure 8" (20cm) and then decrease by knitting two together at the beginning of each row until the last stitch is reached, cast off and sew in ends.
Squares can also be crocheted.
To save time, knit (crochet) strips 64" (162cm) long and any width from 8" (20cm). This way there is less joining and fewer ends to sew in.
Join squares/strips together with running stitch or for a neater finish, crochet.
The patterrn for the diagonal square on Loving Hands has a nice edging (NOT THE BORDER) which makes the sewing up easier as it pulls or gets pushed into a square shape more easily when sewing up begins.
BASIC SQUARE PATTERN FROM LOVING HANDS FOR AN 8" SQUARE
Cast on 1 stitch
Next row :- Make the one stitch into two stitches.
Next row :- Knit 1, into the next stitch make another,3 stitches on needle.
Continue to knit, ALWAYS knit the first stitch and into the 2nd stitch make another.
Only increase this way at the BEGINNING of a row
Continue until your sides measure 8 inches inches.
Next row:- Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit to end of row. Continue this way, always knit the 1st stitch then decrease into the next stitch by knitting 2 together until 1 stitch remains. You should now have a neat square
This patterrn for the diagonal square from Loving Hands has a nice edging which makes the sewing up easier as it pulls or gets pushed into a square shape more easily when sewing up begins.
ALTHOUGH THE DIRECTIONS STATE TO SEW IN THE ENDS NEATLY IT IS SO USEFUL IF YOU LEAVE A LONG TAIL ATTACHED WHICH CAN BE USED WHEN SEWING UP
Have good days one and all and lots of gentle thoughts and hugs to all who need them.
Thanks for kind wishes about DD she is recovering but of course you can imagine the pace of insurance companies at this time of year!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
Anyway Dirty Dancing has really mucked up my counting
Haha, me too, I was also trying to flick back and forth to George Michael. I've set myself impossible targets this week and have lots of things to finish.
I too love the idea of knitting squares - count me in.
May - the penguin falling in the water made me giggle, I kept looking at it again and again :rotfl:0 -
Happy Birthday Jean _party_:bdaycake:_party_
