I'm new to this thread but think Chalky's idea is lovely. I'd love to join in.
I crochet sporadically, usually scarfs for pressies, so squares or something else would be great.0 -
I have decided to join in with you ladies for the charity knitting in the New Year so would love to knit a square or something Chalky :T
I love knitting but my children are too old to want hand knitted stuff now & too young for grandchildren (I hope ) yet. So knitting for charity seems ideal. I shall make the time over the Christmas holidays to read through the thread & find out what I do as I have no idea!
My pom pom scarf is coming along at a rate of knots & should be finished tomorrow. It would be today but I have to finish a cross stitch picture for DH's christmas present first :rotfl: I can only sew when he's not here so should really go & get started as I got up at 6am to get everything done early and I'm still online ................
Have a good Sunday everyone & I'll catch up tomorrow :T0 -
Hi to all from freezing France! Hope you are all managing to keep warm.
Welcome to SavingSu and Sunnygirl - it's great to have you with us. Looks like we'll have a busy New Year!
Chalky - I think squares are coming out on top at the moment!
Maytaurus - I hope you are well. Haven't heard from you for a while.
DPixie - are you OK? It seems ages since you posted.
Well, a last minute gift I had to think of in a hurry has resulted in the fingerless gloves I made for my Mum being wrapped up for someone else! So I've just cast on another pair for Mum. I'm going to do the top and bottom edges in cream, and the main bit in a lovely sage green I found in my stash, then will add a flower (or something else, maybe) using both colours and a bit of pink. I'm looking forward to doing those.I still have a cushion cover to seam but keep picking it up and putting it down, and I must start the dress for Summer, too. I can never just keep one thing on the go - like most of us, I think.
Well, off to have some homemade soup (sweet potato and red pepper this time) for lunch, and we are having chicken, leek and mushroom casserole for dinner. What with porridge for breakfast this morning, we should be fuelled up well to keep warm!
Hope you all have a good Sunday.
KathyXXKNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:
Squares: 11, Animal blankets: 20 -
My vote would be either blanket squares, dishcloths or potholders - basically squares with differing functions!
Turning into a bit of a lurker at the moment - reading up when I can in between getting everything wrapped to go away for Christmas (by train! Don't know how I'll carry everything but I usually manage so I expect I will this time) and trying to clear up the very neglected house so that I don't come back to the same tip that I've been living in. All of which means that I don't yet have any charity knitting to add to my list. Still have a child's jumper in Snowflake on the go but not yet finished.
Best wishes to all for a good Sunday.0 -
Hello World...bit of a nightmare week, Dsis into hospital on Tuesday, sorted now and we have had 8 inches of snow (approx21cm) and no electric on Friday but the melt has started in so we are fine, we have a generator and snow chains and the house always has plenty of supplies for humans and dogs, managed to finish the red white and blue games so here are a couple of photo's then off to read the thread and catch up with everybody. Lots of love cuddles and warm wishes to you all.The Hooligan Wooligan – age 9¾

Thanks for all the support for the idea -- Its nice to have something to focus on beyond the mayhem and something to look forward to--- Peaceful moments just making something that will make such a difference to somebody else
I am always touched by the plight of the needy on Algerian Action
http://algerianaction.wordpress.com/
and also this year I have heard about amazing Grandmothers in South Africa who are looking after families that have been ravaged by aids.
I am trying to get the link to the second.
I am in no way trying to overtake the wonderful work undertaken by Lou at Loving Hands or Shelley, this is just a project for us mad crafters on this thread.I just thought anybody who would like to can join to make a combined gift.
Maybe the concensus will be squares which really does take us back to our roots and allows everyone, maybe even some of our children or elderly Mums/Dads/family etc to contribute. Maybe we could make the theme squares which would also allow everyone to use their imagination for example square jumpers, cardigans, games, washables etc etc I am sure you clever lot will think of lots.
Anyway just taking a moment here and there is no rush -- all ideas welcome !!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -

All the way back a whole week. Wow, ISOM that is one cute puss cat, looks like she will be into everything – watch it she will eat the tree!
MAYTAURUS – no problem with the game, I have previously made them with fabric and sewn them, but it did take a couple of days to work out the sizes, I can do counting and sums – (was a manager at Lloyds for years) I WON’T be trying another knitted one – took far too long and I kept adding daft things like the plastic discs into the centre of the draughts, stuffing the noughts and crosses – I always want to go that little bit further, I feel a bag might be needed now to keep it all in. Can’t get as far as our post office just yet so it ain’t leaving the building for a wee while….TRACTOR stuck on the hill road, no one getting to the village ha ha, it sure is fun here.
Mioliere – more puss cats cuddled up and looking lovely.
I walked the dogs yesterday morning up round the fields and decided I needed to make a snow angel, no problem just fell back into the stuff and waved my arms and legs about, only trouble was both the dogs (daft they are) decided it was a new game and needed to help me- I was stuck in the stuff for what seemed like ages, eventually yelling at them and chucking snow balls for them to chase in order to give me a chance to get back up. Needless to say we were all soaking wet! Didn’t make a snowman….too much chance of animal poo getting in with the snow – not a good look.
Chalky hope your DD is on the mend – what a horrid thing to happen. Oh yes please put me down for some “whatever we knit for 2010” please don’t ask me to come up with ideas for what is to be knitted – you could end up regretting it. Are you all warm and cosy now? I certainly have time to knit and crochet (new skill) and sew for any project you come up with in addition to the others.
Welcome all the new folks, good to have you here. Have marked a couple of posts I need to go back to and I WILL,
I would just like to say to each and every one of you , that I hope you have managed to complete all your craftie bits for Christmas also that you have a wonderful time also thank you all for putting up with me, even when I am “Edna Bouquett” lurker, I still find plenty to smile at on the forum full of friends. The Hooligan Wooligan – age 9¾
