My pleasure seakay! A nice leasiurly outing! Saw old cats today then signed back half my allotment before managing to slam a very heavy metal gate onto my heel so had to cancel seeing a friend as felt very queasy...its ok now just v sore...another batch of chutney on the go; gloves are done and now just have one scarf to do and the wrapping! Excellent news is that I go to a lovely spa and they rang to give me a complimentary treatment tomorrow am...she knows that things have been really tough of late and wanted to do her bit to make things better. Appart from feeling happy that I get a freebie I am just so touched at the thoughfullness...so think of me at 10.15 tomorrow am having a lovely massage! Will take her some chutney as a thank you!

Hi all. Just to let you know that I have successfuly managed to cast on the pom pom wool :T:j I googled it and found a knitting forum from a while ago and someone on there had helpfully posted a link. I thought I'd do the same for the good knitters on here
Linky
I actually just cast on one stitch per 'string' bit and it made life a lot easier. My fingers are sore & my wooden needles have gouges in them from earlier attempts :rotfl: Hope it helps someone.0 -

The draughts board was brilliant.
shezmit - so pleased for you and the amount you raised - I am not sure whether my parcel ever got there though? - When christmas is over you will have to let us know if you have any other craft events planned.
psso - good to see you here - thinking of you xx
pippa - I too lloooooove red cabbage - cant do it like my nan - she used to sweat it most of the day ha ha in vinegar and a bit of water (I think) ooooh by the time we ate it it was so sticky and yummy oh my mouth is watering ..... and yes the Ironing Award of the Week goes to you :T
Well I saw the 2 hour scarf yesterday - lovely only trouble is a day later Im still doing it ha ha only about one centimetre left though
Well my news this week is .... teeth have arrived and they are great - slightly rubbing so will have them adjusted in the week but my DH cant stop looking at me bless him (DS was a little shocked when I got them and said I was the mum he had always had - he is OK now though) - Non stop running around this week for DS at school - now thats all done with -

Hi all, hope you are all nice and cosy indoors - bloomin` snow - not my favourite weather, especially for driving. Kids will be out making snowpeople tomorrow I imagine.:j
Sunnygirl - I just watched your link to the pompom wool - I did a scarf recently with the pompom from Lidl and the `string` bits were shorter so only got one stitch between the pompoms as well. Maybe the more expensive stuff has bigger spaces ?? Once it was cast on I had no problems with it and it came up really quickly, good luck with yours.
Out and about again today - DD`s on holiday and decided we had to go to the cash and carry to stock up with bits and pieces for Christmas & New Year. Don`t know why cause we`re going to DD1 for Christmas day and DS1 for Boxing day ?She bought herself a pair of those UGG boots - much cheaper than downtown would have been - she reckons she saved about £60 at least. Passing on the MSE gene obviously.;)
Pippa - Shame your family can`t make it because of the weather, but at least you`ll know they are safe and not be worrying about them on the roads.
I`m hoping that it`s not snowing at Christmas r we`ll be staying at home. Maybe DD has had a premonition and that`s why we had to stock up !!!!
Off to sit in front of the fire with some wool and try some hooking for a change.
See you later.

Pippa - that must be so disappointing for you, but better safe than sorry.
Jaqui - good to hear from you, and spooky, too, because I was just going to ask if anyone had heard from you lately. (((Hugs))) to your family; I hope they feel better soon. The new teeth will feel a bit of a mouthful at first; everyone finds that with new dentures but perservere and soon they will have bedded down and will feel like the real thing. The dentist should be able to ease them to make them fit better. Make sure they are always wet when you put them in; it makes it a lot easier. It's important to keep wearing them, though, otherwise your gums will shrink back without them and the fit won't be so good. Sorry if I'm being bossy!
Well, the snow we had has settled but it's turned very icy out there, and it's still very cold. We shall have to brave it tomorrow because we need to run a few errands.
Hope you all have a great evening.

kathy - thank you so much for your advice - not bossy at all - much more advice than my dentist, although pleasant I have not clicked with her if you know what I mean. Yes it is a mouthful I feel like Im running them in for a grand national runner :rotfl:but I just cant believe its all done after all these years of waiting
Forgot to say that vegetable looked and sounded lovely - was watching Hugh fernley whatshisname once and he made a soup in a baked pumpkin once - looked so nice but have never had the guts to try pumpkin - you tell us such lovely stories of your varied food which I think is a really good thing - thank you
well everyone is quiet tonight - as you can probably tell the 2 hour scarf is going to become a one week one at this rate - its very heavy on the needles I keep putting it down
I must tell you I feel such a la la - all I keep thinking is ooo cant wait for January 1st - start of the new knitting year with you ladies - daft am I not - also if my memory serves me right LH new challenge in January - wishing the time away .......
Night night all - hope you dont all wake up to too much more snow xxxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -

Bath running and am v excited about my freebie massage - not so much for the massage itself but for the generosity and thought behind it which has really touched me...then will pop to get some gift bags from cheapie shop and a make a quick stocking from sewing shop and thats me done with the exception of food but we arent going mad!
Hope you all have a lovely day! hugs those in the doldrums and feeling overwhelmed...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
morning all, cold here again today
isom, enjoy the massage, i had one yesterday, and it was lovely
f1, hope the teeth settle in soon, hugs
as for the one hour scarves, i've never managed one that fast, best i can do with chunky is to knit a scarf in two days. must finish ian's scarf today or tommorrow, we're off to coast on monday, if the weather isnt too bad, and we're not snowed in. also have a pair of socks to finish for a pressie, which i can easily do. the other pressies to finish are two rather large octopuses to stuff and sew together, not so easy as i have to wait til kids in bed, by which time i'm tired myself. will try and do a little each night tho, in the hope i get them done in time.
hugs to all that need one
shaz xxxenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
For all those drooling and envious over moliere's descriptions of the wonderful sounding potimarron, I have seen them for sale in the UK under the name of Red Kuri Squash. I've got them from the Farmers' Market and a local organic veggie shop and can confirm that they are a wonderfully firm textured and slightly chestnutty flavoured squash. They come in all sizes and even people who usually say that they don't like pumpkin have said that they enjoy these.
Any pumpkin or squash recipe is suitable, but for a simple start I think that they make a particularly delicious puree or mash - slice into segments, remove seeds etc, roast in the oven, mash the flesh - salt pepper and butter optional.0
