Good clod ,chilly, freezing morning to one and all!!
Well we are completely stranded. We live in the bottom part of a dip in our village which is actually accessed by a very long high hill rising from our nearest town. Well we watched from the window as even 4x4 's couldn't manage the hill and even in first gear just slipped straight back down the hill. Luckily stopping before ploughing into our wall!!!!
So that is it. Luckily I was more or less there -- any ideas what to substitute for foil!!! Just looked in the cupboard and the foil cupboard is bare!!!So its knit, knit ,knit for me !!
Will pop back later. Hugs gto all. Coffee is callingTry and do a good deed every day.0 -

question for the crocheters i gave my mil a copy of the raffle scarf as she can crochet and she said it would make a nice edging but unless id only given her half the inctructions it wouldnt make a scarf as it was too thin. id given her the instructions that had been converted into english as far as im aware. ive just printed the caron instructions off and am going to have a go if i can work out the meanings for single crochet and double crochet:rotfl:i can managed the chain bit.
ive restarted a school jumper id done the back of and then abandoned for my youngest DS im doing well on it as ive only got 1 sleeve left and the sewing up to do:T so not bad for a weeks work.SPC~12 ot 124

Chalky.....can you knit foil? Do you have any parchment paper or greaseproof, any left over insulation (the foil type not the wooly one). Slap a load of bacon over the roast (I assume it is a roast) or rub it with butter or oil. Or just try another recipe is it turkey? You could always deep fry it (that's the Scottish in me coming out).
Stay indoors if the weather is that awful and carry on knitting is my advice.
Welcome Zippychick - gonna tell us is it a scarf now? It is far better than any of my first efforts you are doing great keep it up.
Meant to say Mrs moneypenny - great idea about the christmas cards made fromt he pictures of the snow, I just have to remind myself to do them come next year. The Hooligan Wooligan – age 9¾

Oh, Jean - what are you like?!! I've heard a space-ship version of those clocks and, boy, it would wake up the whole street!
Disguising a bike, eh? Just tell him it's a pantomime cow's suit!
Foil - my only suggestion is greaseproof paper, too.
Shaz - DH and I went to Scarborough years ago and really liked the place. We stayed in a hotel called the Flower in Hand which was owned and run by an artist; all her artworks were on the wall and they were stunning. We weren't there on holiday; it was when my DH was a truckie and had to take two boats up there, one on the back and one on a trailer. The whole thing was two feet under the legal limit for trucks so we had to go backwards around the roundabouts - with police permission, of course! DH asked me to go along for company; it was a long trip and I slept most of the way, so some company I was!

Afternoon all:hello:
Just nipped in for a quick read before I get ready to go out, we had a dusting of snow last night, you know, just to top up the melted stuff
not too bad though others have it so much worse, DS1 is still snowed in down in the south east, the girls love it, but then the LO's do dont they?
Zippy - well done on the scarf its looking good :T
mrs.m - the Caron pattern that Kathy posted for the ruffle scarf is in US terms so....US sc is UK dc..... and US dc is UK treble, the hook size US K is UK 6.5mm, hope you can understand thisI always do an extra row and that makes it a bit deeper, works out at around 2.3/4" - 3" They are sooo expensive at the shops in Birmingham town centre
:wave:May-Shelley-Lorna and all MIA's hope you are all well and keeping warm
Jean - I had tears running down my cheeks with laughing at your antics, I could just imagine the 2 of you scrabbling around trying to shut it up :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I bet that story is trotted out every Christmas now
Elaine - glad DS is back home for Christmas, did you finish the scarf???
Kathy - which dress did you decide on for little Summer. Home in time for the New Year sales, you shoud get loads of bargains, wool wise I mean
chalky - no idea what to do about about the foil unless you could scrounge a bit from a neighbour;) sorry to hear you are snowed in, but thank goodness for wool stash's :T
:wave:Hi OS glad to see you back
ISOM - how's ISOKE liking the snow, bet she'd rather sit on mummy's lap eh
SunnyGirl - If you want a change you could do a baby blanket or go into preemies UK, run by our Shelley(shezmit), they always need premmie baby cardi's or little stretchy hats all are fairly easy to do and Shelley will put buttons or ribbons on. If you go into http://preemiesuk.googlepages.com/home.html the pattern link is on the first page. Worth a look for future use anyway,
I managed to finish the Ruffle scarf for DIL last night so just need to wrap it up.
My DSis gave me some Rowan Spray (it looks a bit like felt) and I've been looking for a pattern so I can use it up but no success yet.
The ball band says use 10mm, I wonder if it would knit up ok with any chunky type yarn???
Ah well better go get ready.

just a quick reply and will read back...re disguising bike...if it has a bell, take it off and use a few boxes within boxes with layers - can use things like pasta, tins etc for weight/sound and when he eventually gets to the bell tell him where hidden bike is...or take off one wheel and wrap that in a box and hide rest elsewhere...or lots of boxes to unwrap eventually getting a note saying go look in...where bike is hidden! very hard to actually disguise a bike in its entirety!
rowan spray ideas here

couple of things to wrap before mum gets here but stopped for lunch! Isoke went out briefly then came back in! Far too cold me thinks - she would happily sit on lap but doesent like the movement when I knit so she usually lies along my legs!! She growing and was a great "help" to the plunber this morning!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi Pippa - I decided on this dress in the end, http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/PATTanouk.html mainly because the baby reminded me of Summer! I love the colours in the picture, but I have some lovely pinky-white self-patterning yarn called Kiddies Kaleidoscope in a shade called Strawberry Ripple that I bought specially for Summer, so I will use that along with a brighter pink and maybe some white. I also have a pattern for a little shrug that I hope to make to go with it. I'll see how it goes! I shall post a photo when it's finished (if it turns out well!).
That Rowan Spray sounds intriguing - I shall google it.

At last, the scarf is finished - well have decided that`s as long as it needs to be anyway !!
Have a couple of blankets in the wip corner to finish next. One is in pale greeny/lemony/white snowflake (good for just now ) The other is this. DD decided she wanted a small blanket just big enough for a baby car seat cover in this. Did the blanket but didn`t have enough for the border -Sands style and none left in the shop. Managed to order from ebay and, like you Pippa, was astonished to find it was same lot / and dye number. Now have to do a bigger version for pram. Told her I would teach her to do it herself but was told that babe would be ready for school by the time she got it done....she`s probably got that right. The snowflake one is for charity so think I`ll do it first.Well, grandkids delivered the cards for the neighbours this morning while I took DS shopping for last minute pressies and were delighted when one of the ladies gave them a tube of sweeties each - I`m lucky, MOST of my neighbours are very nice - although one of them reported me to the dog warden because my dogs BARK. They bark at HIS CAT
- oh well.......
Jean - re alarm clock shenanigans :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:sounds like something from Laurel & Hardy !!
Off to get the kettle on - there`s a cup of coffee and a slice of sultana cake with my name on it - can you hear it calling to me ???
Back later.
