I don't know how to though - and if it will make the stitches bigger so it juts out? Do you know what I mean? i dont know what to do.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

:j well DS got home with us tonight - but they still don`t know what the problem was
All the tests came back clear and the echo showed there wasn`t a significant change in his heart.............told to come back if he has any more problems otherwise just attend his cardiac checkup when it`s due. Phew.
Surprisingly today hasn`t been too much of an ordeal, probably because I was thinking more about DS than dwelling on the date and as we should be having the grandchildren tomorrow and Christmas eve - weather permitting - I`ll be far too busy to feel down in the dumps. Thanks as usual for all your support - it really does help to know you are there for us.
Well done zippychick, you`re doing a grand job there. You`ve probably done yards more already but I was going to say that you could always do that first colour in the plain knit stitch to give a bit of contrasting texture to your scarf if you are keeping the colours in the same order ? IYSWIM. If you do the k2 p2 rib it will pull your work in a little bit tighter than what you`ve done so far, but if that`s what you fancy then go for it.
We`re all inclined to `adapt` patterns to suit ourselves hereno hard and fast rules for us.
Still have to wrap up the pressies for DD & DS - can`t get rid of them both at the same time to do it, and if they see each others things they will go and blab !!!! Might have to just stick them into asda carriers insteadsave on wrapping paper, hee hee.
Right, off to sit in front of the fire with that bloomin scarf. It`s taken ages to do and I`m fed up with it now - I`m sure you all know that feeling. I will, will, will finish it before Christmas (or maybe New Year) so that I can get rid of it.
Sleep well everyone and stay cosy.

Zippy you are doing great - changing colours on the right rows which took me ages to get the hang of. The reason the knit at the bottom of the scarf looks slightly wider I think is just partly because the stocking stitch bit is more streamlined than the bumpy knit bit. You could carry on as you are changing colours and practising stocking stitch (knit row, purl row) or use it as a learning swatch and see what happens with different combinations - rib will pull the width in just as it does on a cuff of a jumper. Anyhoo, enough waffle - it's going great so shout up if you get stuck0

Glad today wasn't too difficult for you Elaine and very good news that DS is home. Know what you mean about wrapping too - I spend the run up to Christmas feeling furtive :rotfl:.
Have a lovely time with your family over the next few days.0 -
Hi everyone
Zippy - the scarf is looking great. I love the combination of colours. Well done! as K2tog says - just shout if you need help. There will always be someone here with the answer!
Well, I just need to sew up the latest pair of fingerless gloves then I shall post a photo. I love the sage green and cream together. When I got to the end of each one, I crocheted a row of single crochet picot to give it a slightly frilly look and I'm really pleased with it. I shall be making loads more for next Christmas to give to those who got one of my ruffle scarves this year! I also want to experiment with smaller sizes for little ones.
Anyway, next I must finish sewing up the cushion covers I've made, then start on the dress for baby Summer. I had a lovely letter from her yesterday, with a photo - for four months old, she writes really well! She tells me she is so excited about her first Christmas!
Elaine - I was so pleased to read that DS is back home with you where he belongs. It must have been such a worry for you. Have a great time with the grandchildren!
I hope the snow problems are easing for everyone in the UK. It's a bit warmer here thankfully - just as well because DH has been working on a new step outside the back-door-that-we-use-as-the-front-door! He's putting some old original 'tommette' tiles on it and it's going to look great when it's finished. The last owners had made the step too narrow and, clumsy as ever, I was always falling off it! DH has made it a lot wider so I should be safe.
Well, I'm happily planning on my trip to my favourite wool shop when we come back to the UK in the New Year. Although I still have a fair-sized stash, there's loads more I want for charity knitting and present making next year. I haven't had a look in a decent wool shop since our last trip back in August, and I have severe withdrawal symptoms!
Well, I need another cuppa!

Hi. Looks like you've all been busy with the needles :-)
Hope this icy cold weather hasn't been too much of a hindrance and pain to any of you. Not too bad where we are. Has been a bit slippy, but not much snow. Just dustings really.
Nearly finished my 2nd slipper sock. Have crocheted 2 squares for the baby blanket I've been asked to make, and have part of a square on the hook :-) No more charity squares done though :-( My friend has been busy with hers though. She said she's really enjoying it :-) So that's good.
Anyway. Have a blessed and proserous and happy day in all you do :-)
Everyone take care. Hugs for anyone who needs them.

wow zippy I'm impressed - changing cols already! Took me ages to do that! Re what to do it depends on what you want it to look like - if you want it to match then repeat the pattern youve done so far but if you want it funky just do what feels good. Knit a row purl a row looks smooth; knit one purl one bumpier...
great news that ds home elaine...hopefully now you can just "be" at home giving each other solace at a difficult time...
Am still doing my ipod sock and will give it some bling to jazz it up a bit! Other than that think knitting projects done, although would like some mitts for me and love the yarn I used for best mates scarf so may do me one too!! Going to go back to bed for a bit - plumber been, fixed leaking overflow (£63!) and hopefully thats sorted!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! hi there,
Firstly, sorry I have been MIA recently. Still thinking of you all and knitting away. Have actually been doing some burial stuff recently, small hats and moved on to vests now. Think will maybe put that on hold though as need to make DS a balaclava as his poor wee cheeks were freezing on monday when we were out!
Hope you all are ok, not read through all posts yet but plan to, and hugs in the meantime.
xx OS
ETA Hope snow/ice not causing too many problems for people- we had an ambulance overturn up here- only ambulance workers injured as no passengers in it, but scary, also sorry to hear of the overturned bus in Cornwall, and people dying as they were locked out of their houses!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Slow to go this morning.. AND THE PRIZE OF NUMPTY OF THE YEAR AWARD goes to ME. I bought a rather fetching mood clock - plays different tunes (well moods) and changes to all sorts of different colours, supposed to be the best way to wake up. This is a present to my DS, wrapped it yesterday was very pleased with myself.
6.30 am dark dank Brittany, DH and I sleeping the sleep next thing we get seagulls and crashing waves and a light show to warrant being a disco....the parcel was in my bedroom giving its all to wake us up....dives out of bed, all the lights on, ripped open the parcel, DH trying to read the instructions (there are about 8 buttons on the thing), him with some prize phrases for me, me with some even better #"?!& for him, I was so cheesed off I just pulled the batteries, got a "well done" for my trouble and crawled back into bed. So we have proof that the clock/light/sound machine works absolutely fine. I shall never be forgiven for inserting the batteries into anything that needs them prior to the day of giving. Ye gotta laugh tho'!
DH & DS are away to the shops with three pages of notes and lists so I am left to catch up with the really exciting stuff, steam mop the floor, walk the dogs and see if we can find enough snow to chuck some at the dogs, generally just enjoy myself, bet I even have time for a sly bit of knitting too. Hope you all have a good day, will call in again a bit later. I am only left to wrap DH's pressie....I am telling him its a music centre (its a bike)..what are my chances at disguise then? Answers on the forum urgently while he is out please.
