Hello everyone,
Salome how do you fit everything in to an already busy life? Your plans for next year sound interesting, let us know if we can do anything to help.
f1 widow ((hugs)) what a horrid situation your in, then to have people being unkind. Still some of the advice sounded good. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
ISOM happy hunting on the wool rescue mission.
mioliere the cushions sound lovely, don't forget to take photos, co we're all nosy/interested. You'd be well down your list by now if you hadn't added lots more on the bottom!
I was sitting crocheting fish and birds last night for cat toys (I know) and suddenly thought about Jeans curly key rings, they could make good cat toys! Or would that make cats think it was ok to attack anything crocheted.......oh they already do.
Pippa the santa express sounds great. My brother used to be santa on a steam train in Dorset a few years ago, took his holiday to do it he enjoyed it so much, and he has some lovely stories of the children. Quite a few adult ones as well!
Have a good day everyone, and hugs to all those MIA's, we miss you. xxxx0 -
Kinsey - yes, I will post photos of the cushions when they're finished. I'm keeping them simple so that I don't waste time having to unpick them. The inners I bought earlier in the year; they're 14" square, and cost €1,50 - not much more than £1. I liked them because they are already covered with a lovely plain coffee-coloured fabric which looks really nice showing through the cream Aran wool. I think I'll be making more of them next year because they are quick and easy. I fancy making them for Christmas presents (I know, we haven't had this year's yet!) for all the children in the family, to match their bedrooms. Nothing like planning early, is there? Also, it gives me the perfect excuse to buy lots of chunky yarn when we come back to the UK in January. I'm excited at the prospect already but DH thinks I've gone mad!
I think protecting crocheted or knitted items from cats is a lost cause, as ISOM and I can testify. Cats (well, at least the tabby variety) seem to be fascinated with wool. I have to keep mine covered to stop Louis rummaging through it and running off with things! You've reminded me that I must make something for DS2's cat, Colin, for Christmas. I think Jean's curlies would be great on a long cord.
Anyway, I have some more chores to do and I've finished my coffee, so I'd better go.

Good morning to one and all-- overwhelmers, underwhelmers please feel free to dip your toe in. Perhaps it is only because Kathy started this thread quite a long time ago so we are established here whereas most threads are of a much more transitory nature. ISOM you seem like a real "oldie" now and lovely with it!!
Pippa S -- I often think of you and your new or now not so new wonderful Grandchild. What a wonderful story So glad you had a wonderful time at the Santa Express. To see Christmas through the eyes of children is the best way.
When I was a reception teacher I heard
" Jesus was born on a table and the leopards came to see him !!! "
Well a quick visit as we have some friends coming for lunch . Soup, flatbreads and nibbles so not too taxing. Dmil is still knitting baby hats !!
I am in limbo but have been trying to ignore the curly wurly key rings but you lot are so tempting so thought I would look on our little market for the rings on Friday and then pack them up with a Curly Wurly Bar ( Carrot flavoured for 1!!) Thanks for all the wonderful ideas.
Well I think all the MIA's are getting so ready for Christmas they will appear and make the rest of us think we are miles behind. It is so laid back here you could think there is just a special day coming up. We have just had a long Fiesat weekend for both the Constitution and the immaculate conception and there doesnt seem to be the mass panic about shopping we see because the shops are going to be closed for 1 day.
To all who are feeling a bit down, sad or just resting a very gentle hug to you.May see you soon
Thanks for kind comment on blog Pfungi X
Have very good days everyone and f1 widow hope you are adjusting to life with a wonderful smile. I think you will look wonderful and so deserve to after all the workTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Thank you for your offer of help Kinesy :-)
Had to smile at the reference to ISOMs !!!!!kins re protection for crocheted and knitted items etc lol. Kitties are SO playful. Our cat still is. He's coming up for 10. He's a little disturbed. We had him from a young boy when he was 12wks old who could no longer look after him properly. He used to put him up trees and leave him there to get down. Said the cat had to learn. He lived in a flat, and he would drop him off the balcony to teach him to fall on his feet !!! and I think we have the only cat ever, who thinks rain is great, because the young lad used to put him in the shower, so he'd like rain. He walks around in circles, which isn't such a good idea, because the Rottie finds that really tempting, and feels he should join in !!! When people come into our house, they back away from the Rottie, and make a fuss of the cat, which would really be safer to do the other way round. The cat is more likely to harm you than the dog is.
I'm not a house goddess either. Housework is not the top priority on my list. I have two daughters who seem to think housework is fun, so I'm happy to let them take charge :-)
My problem is prioritising really. I am organised in a very unorganised sort of way, if you see what I mean. But I don't allot "times" to things that need doing. They do get done, but quite often after I've planned to get them done. I tend to get carried away with one thing. So today, I am going to be good, and allot certain projects to certain amount of time, and not sit and read a book for the majority of the day lol. I shall allot it half an hour before I go to sleep :-) lol. Shoud be interesting to see if can get into this habit :-) We'll see. lol.
Have a blessed and prosperous day ladies (and men if there are any lurking) :-)

SUPER carrot!! And your DD2 is in such good company!!
Carrots:
The carrot is a highly refined version of a common weed, Queen Anne's lace. Both plants originated in the Middle East, native to Afghanistan.
The Greeks called the carrot "Philtron" and used it as a love potion, rich in minerals and vitamins, very nutritious & yummy in carrot cake

Was hoping to maybe add an embelishment but not sure I have the concentration for that just now!
Hope the rest of you are doing ok. Next task for me is to finish mum's necktie, then perhaps some more wee stockings if I have any energy!

Hope to pop on later, if I can shake this darn head cold a bit!

Maytaurus - you've done us proud with such lovely links. Thanks for sharing them with us. I love them all!
Orkney - the gloves look lovely with the flowers. They really seem to add that little something, don't they? I think you've done really well seeing as you are feeling poorly. If you feel you aren't getting better as quickly as you should, it may be worth a visit to the doctor. Some years ago I had a head cold that wouldn't go away, and it turned out to be sinusitis that needed antibiotics, so please don't leave it too long.
Well, I should be working but I've had my feet up crocheting, a cuppa and some biccies by my side, and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I'm not feeling too guilty about crocheting when I should be doing other things, because making Christmas presents is money-saving, isn't it?!

This is my first visit to this thread and I am loving it! I haven't caught up with all the posts...but will try eventually! Don't know why I didn't find this thread earlier!
I have been lurking on the Cross-stitch UFO thread, as I had plans to make lots of cross-stitch pressies for Christmas. Well, I have been knitting loads of presents instead...I will plan some cross-stitch presents for Xmas 2010...starting in January, so I will at least get some done in time!
As it is, I find knitting much more therapeutic, especially in the evenings as I can knit away while watching TV or listening to the radio.
So far I have knitted, and sewn up two gilets in Sirdar Funky Fur. There are two more waiting to get their side-seams sewn up (oh, I want a sewing fairy too!) and I am 2/3 through the backs of two more. One is waiting until all the rest are finished, as I can give it to my friend only 2 days before Christmas, whereas the rest need to be posted!
I got the Funky Fur from from Black Sheep Wools for £1 a ball, which made each gilet a a well priced pressie (each needs 7-8 balls). For a couple of nephews I have knitted beanies in Noro Silk Garden, and a couple of great-nephews are getting red hats made with wool from a long abandoned project (very thrifty!). I still hope to make a couple of scarves..to post next week...I can see them being skinny ones, but in Funky fur left-overs...cosy!
Right, I have to go and get the Canada parcel (all knitted) posted...yes I know I am late...but it will get there eventually!
I will pop on again later to catch up on some of the previous weeks posts.
Keep knitting!
