Hi everyone. Yet again, I haven't been on here much today; I've been helping lay floor-levelling compound on a floor in the house (really exciting - not!), then I had to go shopping because we were in danger of starving to death.

It's been cold here but bright and sunny, too, which was lovely. I did a bit of tidying up in the garden and brought my geraniums in to over-winter, and emptied out flower pots and so on, which was great. It's been so wet here over the last three weeks or so, it was great to get outside. I could hear lawnmowers going all over the hamlet, so everyone else had the same idea.

I'll post the update tomorrow so thanks for everyone's latest totals. I'll also post some photos of the scarves I've made and the patterns for them just in case anyone wants to make a ruffle scarf variation.

Pol, it does seem as if that pattern has started something, doesn't it? It reminds me of when Shazrobo posted the hedgie pattern; it really took off and what it did to Chalky was amazing!

Heldun - great to have you back. I hope life is treating you well.

Ladykath - a warm welcome to you. I hope you enjoy it here; this is a lovely thread. Thanks for your kind words about what we do.

Well, I've started yet another scarf (another Christmas pressie); It's for one of my little nieces, so it's shorter than usual - not quite so many stitches!

Chalky - your gardening Tuesdays sound wonderful. Fresh olives - what bliss; I luuuuurrrrvvve olives! Please say 'hi' (or should that be 'hola'?) to your lovely Spanish knitters.

DS2 has just Skyped and little Summer is turning into a real little smiler and giggler - she melts my heart every time I see her on Skype, so I just can't wait to see her in the New Year and have a proper cuddle. I'm missing them all so much, it hurts my heart. I have to console myself by thinking how lucky I am that they are all healthy and happy.

Well, I'm off for a shower then a bit more crochet.

Hope you all have a great evening.

Hi everyone. Hope you all had a good night's sleep. I was hoping to until a bad dream woke me up in the early hours. I dreamt about the second world war and it was really scary. I've been following Coal House at War (on Mondays, BBC2, 7pm, I think) which is fascinating. It's about three families who are spending time in old miners' cottages in Wales, and they are 'living' in 1944, with air raids, rationing, and so on. What with that and the war film we started watching the other night (which I couldn't watch after the first half an hour because it was so upsetting), I think it all got inside my head a bit too much. I woke up with a real start and had to have a cuppa.

Anyway, I've almost finished a child's ruffle scarf - a lot quicker than the adult size, so it's working up really quickly. I need to make a few more but I shall make some of Pam's knitted fingerless gloves today - I haven't knitted for ages now I come to think of it, so it will make a change. I prefer crochet because, with the tendonitis in my hands, it's so much more comfortable to do.

ISOM - I wonder if Isoke has the strange fascination with wool that Louis has? He's being a real pain; I have all my current wool and projects in a big box on the floor next to where I sit, and he just loves to rummage around in it selecting something to steal. I put a big bath towel over it all the other night, but he knew what was underneath, and just pulled the towel off! Last night I put a big cushion on top of the towel, and he just kept pouncing on it. I even crocheted him a quick square, but perhaps he doesn't like pink! Honestly, he can be fast asleep but he seems to know as soon as I sit down and pick up my WIP. DH thinks it's hilarious, but it's becoming too dangerous to leave him in the room on his own! Anyway, it means I shall have to hunt around for the lid to the box which is somewhere in storage.

Well, I'm going to see if I can remember how to post a photo from Maytaurus's excellent instructions about Imageshack; then I shall post photos of the scarves I've made.

Maytaurus - and all the other MIAs; I do hope you are all doing well.

It's me again. I've been having problems with Imageshack - for some reason, I can either load a picture as a thumbnail or one so huge that it takes up all the page! Have no idea why at the moment; I shall have a fiddle around with it again later.

Anyway, here is a picture of the scarves I have made which are variations of the ruffle scarf.

    novembersearlymorningsu.jpg

    And here are the instructions!

    Experimenting with Ruffles

Using the same basic principle of the ruffle scarf (http://www.caron.com/projects/bliss/B5_ruffle_scarf.html) I’ve been trying out a few variations. Here are the instructions for anyone who would like to try them. I hope they make sense – if not, please ask!

IMPORTANT: With all ruffle scarves, working the foundation chain loosely makes the first row easy!

    Cream Scarf

This was worked in Robin Aran weight wool (but any chunky yarn would do) with a No 6 (UK) hook, and was so so simple to make.

Ch to length required for completed scarf.

1st (and only!) row: SC into 7th chain from hook, ch 7, SC into same stitch, *ch 7, SC into next st, ch 7 SC into same st* to end. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Denim Scarf

This was worked in Sirdar Denim Chunky with a No 6 (UK) hook

Ch to length required for completed scarf.

1st Row: SC into 7th chain from hook, ch 7, SC into same stitch, *ch 7, SC into next st, ch 7, SC into same st* to end.

2nd Row: same as 1st row but worked into the other side of the foundation row. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

The second row could be worked in a contrasting colour – something I’ll try next, now I’ve thought about it!

Dark Blue Scarf worked in Drop Stitch

This was worked in DK yarn (Courtelle Chevy DK with Wool from my stash. I’ve had it for years, so have no idea if it’s still available!).

Drop Stitch instructions: Into each stitch, YO, insert into st, YO again but this time pull up to about an inch, pull yarn through all 3 loops on hook, then ch 1 to ‘lock’ the stitch into place.

Ch to length required for completed scarf.

1st Row: Work 1 drop stitch into fourth chain from hook, then 1 into each chain to end. Turn.

2nd Row: Ch 4, work 2 drop stitches into each space made by the ‘locking’ chain of the previous row. Turn.

3rd Row: Ch 4, work 2 drop stitches into each space between every drop stitch of the previous row.

Fasten off and weave in the ends or, if a wide scarf is required, repeat 3rd row.

The cream one is the quickest!

    Morning all.
    Thanks for those variations Kathy.
My first ruffle was going so well until I ran out of wool halfway along the last row, so akin to Pippa.S I have made the last row a different colour! It still looks good though- need to finish last row today.
Need to get mums present today (67 next week) but not sure whether to send home or hospital- might actually send to sister and she can deliver with hers ?
Ok, hope all poorlies are getting better.

Good morning all. Lovely pics again :-) I knitted myself a mug cosy the other day, and love it :-) My hot drinks stay hotter longer :-)
I was talking to a lady who goes to our church the pther day about knitting, and although she can't do a lot of fancy stuff, she can, she said, knit squares, I asked if she would like to do some charity knitting, and she seemed quite keen, so I'm now seriously thinking of trying to get something set up at church ???
Need to get some buttons for my baby jacket, then start another baby garment for another expecting mum at church.
Have a happy day all of you, and prosperous knitting time :-)

    Hello everyone

    Ruffle Wonderfulitis !! Thanks Kathy

I also have 2 now with half finished last rows but have to wait til I go hom for extra wool. I think I will wear them all ruffled together on the journey home to keep warm. I shall look like a scarf lady rather than a bag lady!!

Lots of love to all . Only popping in as we are off to spoile DMIL in the sun as she has had so much rain in the South West.
I have lost my crochet hook again!!!!
Try and do a good deed every day.

oo good for you salome...I originally started with a church group and then just extended this to Big Knitters when asked! Both groups are cosy and friendly with chat, knit, tea andcake plus lots of giggles! If you want any info feel free to ask :) The only issue is postage costs because of more items to send but am trying to get people to knit for local charities so that I can hand deliver...
Well roll done so now have to do lots of hearts, leaves and some flowers...plus a scarf, mitts and.....and...
Going to do some of pfungi's mitts at they look lovely! friend will be impressed as she like me is a beginner knitter!!
Miol Isoke cant be left alone wth wool at all - she kills it! The fluffier the better! Her technique is wait for the nanosecond whenI'm not looking and then pick it up and walk away with ball in mouth until far enough away, then go for it ...kicking with back feet, biting, running...you name it! Sweet but when she gets a ball that costs £8 not funny - plus you have to rewind! Its like having a toddler...wouldnt be without her though :)

    must on...lots to do!
