Hi Everyone
Have come to a bit of a standstill knitting wise - sailor hat pattern I have been following has wrong decreases and I need to unpick almost an entire round and work out new increases (which I have never really done before) and I just can't face at the mo. Am sitting here with a sore throat and it sounds as if I will lose my voice - hubby is hoping . Don't much fancy having huge blanket on my lap while I do the edging either (have to do edging as only ued 2 colours and carried them up the side so not too neat) so will try and find a small project that doesn't need too much thinking.
Hugs to all who need or want them - especially those who may be lurking and not feeling like posting.0 -
dOH has just cooked delicious meal so will post instructions for banner tomorrow but they are really easy but very effective. Just pray for a baby with a short name,
Can I just say how much I treasure you all --- Not necessarily just for me but also just for me. There is always a word of encouragement, a helping hand, a feeling of understanding, or just someone you can shout to and not be judged. Total strangers in a way but the very best of friends in every other way
So Goodnight to all and I do truly send the gentlest of hugs to everyoneTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
K2tog - (((hugs))) to you. Hope your sore throat doesn't get worse.
Chalky - your words have brought a lump to my throat. I think it's exactly how we all feel. The name flag is gorgeous - I really must get at least one made!
Well, I've just had a shower having watched and enjoyed Strictly, and now I hope to grab a couple of hours crocheting, as long as I can stay awake.
Hope everyone has a good evening.

Hello to everyone.
Big thankyou to all the lovely people who sent kind thoughts to my brother, and I'm sorry to go on about it, but I do get worried for him. Unfortunately he'll never get better as it's a 'facet joint injury', where vertebrae have worn away, mostly on one side. He was an ambulance driver and did quite a lot of lifting etc. and is only 55 now. My baby brother, I've kept an eye on him all his life whether he liked it or not, he's the youngest of four of us, lives a five minute walk from me now, luckily.
Chalky the banner for Zara is lovely.
Mioliere hope you had a peaceful evening on the sofa, strictly was eventful wasn't it?
K2 tog I know what you mean, sometimes the brain just doesn't want to do maths.
Still missing the AWOLS. Hope your all ok.
Lots of love to everyone, xxxx0 -
HI all.
Kinsey - you're not 'going on' about your brother. If there's one thing this thread is great for - apart from all the wonderful things you all make for those in need - it's the love and support that seems to flow from everyone - just read Chalky's lovely words. I'm so sorry that the problem with your brother's back is permanent, especially as he's been such a valuable member of the community - ambulance driving is a difficult but essential job, and he must have made life better for hundreds of people, and saved more than a few lives, too. I hope the doctors can at least help to make him more comfortable. Please give him lots of (((hugs))). The fact that he has such a caring sister must make all the difference to him.
Yes, Strictly was eventful to say the least! If I was Jade, I'd be so worried about my career - I really hope that her horrible knee injury can be sorted out. She looked completely devastated, didn't she? It just goes to show how hard they all work at the dancing - the professionals make it look easy, but the stresses and strains on the body must be enormous. I thought everyone did really well and the final decision must have been so difficult. It's such a lovely programme, and the reason I watch that and none of the other shows like it, is that they are all just aiming to get to the final - not to make a new career and win a contract. They all want to win, but they are not depending on it for the rest of their lives, if you know what I mean! Plus, I just love dancing anyway, and I love the dresses and the music and - well, just about everything!
Well, BIL has phoned and the doctors are still none the wiser about my sister; I'm hoping that, because they have taken her off all the meds she was on, they are just waiting for her system to be clear before they can get results from her tests. Her liver is enlarged, which is really worrying, but BIL says she is looking and feeling better, so that is encouraging. After they have been to see her this afternoon, he will take my Mum back to his house and they will Skype me from there, so I'm really looking forward to that. Hopefully, they will have some good news by then.
Well, I have finally finished the sporty booties I have made for DGD2 so I will take a photo later and post it. They've been a long time in the making due to me being ill - they should only have taken a day, really! I will wash them before taking a picture - I want to make sure I don't send them to her with all my cold germs! I've been using hand gel before I pick up my wool, but a wash will make sure, hopefully, that they are safe! I've also done a bit more to DGS's blanket, and I'm also deciding what to do next - probably some of Chalky's lovely name bunting.
Anyway, I hope the weather has calmed down for you all, and that today is a good day.
Lots of (((hugs))) to Maytaurus, Elaine, Pam, Lorna, and everyone else who has been MIA lately.

By the way, it looks as if the update now will be for the last two weeks - I'm sorry I didn't do it last week, but I will make sure I count from the last update and don't miss anything out.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Thankyou so much for your support mioliere, it always amazes me how much wittering we'll listen to, but personally I enjoy the wittering!
I agree, poor Jade, let's hope she heals well and quickly. I also agree about the self promotion aspect of certain shows, a real turn off. I do like the skating one when it's on though, something I've always wanted to have a go at bt never got around to, I rather think I've left it a bit late now.
It's a pity your BIL can't skype from the hospital, it must be very hard being far away. Fingers crossed for good test results, when will they find out?
love to everyone. xxx0 -

]Hello to everybody and lots of gentle thoughts needed as I know a lot of people have a lot on their minds -- worry with poorly families.loved ones and memories which never fade. We lost a sweet nephew aged 2 with meningitis 28 years ago tomorrow and as we have a DS who was only 2 months older we feel so much for DSIL ( My brother died 5 years ago and he was never the same after his son died)
Anyway just a quick post to give a helping hand for the name banner if anyone wants to make one.
I saw this idea on a stall in Covent Garden and loved it
Cast on 24 stitches and garter stitch 20 rows.
The next row is the eyelet hole row where you thread the string to hang it by.
I knit 3 or 4 depending how many holes you want then Knit 1 Slip1 then slip Knitted stitch over and repeat this to the end of the row ( I usually make 4 holes) It doesnt really matter what method you use as long as you end up with holes
On the next row pick up a stitch or make a stitch by increase to get back to the original 24 stiches
Garter stitch 6 more rows and cast off.
You have to make as many squares as there are letters in the name ( hence my joy at Zara) and then I crochet a chain long enough to thread through the squares leaving a long enough tail at each end to make a loop
The Cut out the letters from felt blanket stitch them on and embellish with buttons as you wish.
You might just need to catch the edges of the squares to make them lay flat on the chain
I hope that makes sense if not shout but here is a picture of 1 square.
And here the finished name banner
Here is 1 I did for great nephewTry and do a good deed every day.0
