Hi everyone. Up early this morning but at least I had a fair amount of sleep last night which makes a change lately. My cold/virus thingy is almost gone but is still sort of taking me by surprise every now and again. I hadn't been out for days so yesterday we went to investigate a local park that I had seen signposted; it was a brilliant find. We had a lovely stroll and came upon ducks, geese, peacocks, a very old but friendly donkey and, best of all because we just weren't expecting it, a family of deer. There is a great children's play area and plenty of benches, so it will be somewhere else to while away the better weather and to take visitors to. The French really do like making sure that everyone has access to places like this, and there are some lovely parks here. Every town and village has a sports ground, too, so there's always an open space somewhere whatever you feel like doing. Right now, all the planting is being renewed. The roundabouts here are works of art - I really must take some photos. There are little beds of winter flowers everywhere you look, and my favourites, pansies, are in great abundance. It really does make driving to the shops a great pleasure! Anyway, our walk in the park was lovely but really puffed me out, so I had to hang on to DH to get back up the slope to where we'd parked the car! The weather was lovely and autumny, too, but right now we seem to be sharing your wind and rain - it's blowing a gale out there.

I spoke to my BIL again yesterday. They are still not sure what is wrong with my sister but mentioned the dreaded Hepatitis, so she is worried sick. My nephew, her DS1, googled it and found that it can happen with some meds, so he has managed to reassure her a little. She is still in isolation and will be until they know what's wrong with her. I'm hating being so far away now. Still, BIL says she is looking much better than when he first took her in and I know she's in the right place. Thank you all so much for your good wishes - it really does help to be able to write things down here and your support is very welcome. I shall speak to BIL again today and keep you all informed.

DS2 and his gorgeous family Skyped last night. Summer is three months old now and looking truly edible. They make sure she's 'front of camera' for me and I can see her smiling and giggling away. She's really finding her voice, too. DIL2 sings to her all the time and she really responds to it. I always feel a mixture of sadness that I'm not there with them, and joy at how gorgeous she is, as well as sheer gratitude for the luxury of Skype - it really does make all the difference.

Salome - I feel so sad thinking about your great loss. You must really miss your son and it's perfectly understandable that you worry about your children when they are driving. I shall be thinking of you on the 15th and sending (((hugs))).

Orkney Star - (((hugs))) to your Mum. I hope she is better soon.

Chalky - congratulations on the safe arrival of your great niece, Zara, and what a lovely name.

Pippa - I hope your friend's OH is better soon.

Seakay - thinking of you. Hope the dental work goes well. It'll all be worth it when it's over.

K2tog - thanks for asking about my Mum. You may remember, she moved back to our home town, Weston-super-Mare, in the summer and it has taken her a while to adjust to the move and get settled back in. It was a big upheaval for a 79 year old but she really needed to get back near family. She's had a few health problems and other setbacks but is really happy and settled now and, I hear, about to get the wool and needles out again! Of course, with my sister being in hospital, she is worried but at least she can visit easily now - she lives within walking distance from the hospital, although BIL won't hear of her walking there and will take here there every day.

Well, I am plodding on with DGS's lapghan, slowly but surely, and I still have a tiny bit to do to the booties I've been making for DGD2. My cold has really held me up so progress has been very slow. As the weather forecast is pretty grim for the weekend, I hope to get a lot more done.

The update also will get done, I promise!

Well, I've really waffled on - making up for lost time, I think!

Maytaurus, Pam, Elaine and all the other MIAs - we miss you and hope you are all well. Please post when you can.

Well, I'm off for another cuppa. Hope you are all coping with the bad weather and that no-one suffers any damage. Keep warm, dry and cosy.

I've just found this - a lovely crochet pattern for some booties, plus a great tutorial showing a neat way of joining. http://megan.cc/Soccasins/pattern.html

    Good Morning everybody.
Well I am on here earlier than usual because I was actually up taking pictures of the sunrise ( A bit late but very good for me !! ) I went back to bed afterwards though!! Anyway when I was up early looking and snapping for my blog I thought of you all here as I wanted to send you all some positive vibes.

Well on the crafty front I managed a few Granny Squares when our friends were here and then lost my crochet hook !!!!!! It is so frustrating cos I can only find the little cotton ones here. But DMIL will bring some when she comes in 2 weeks !!
    DOH found it !!!

So I made some little birds with some beautiful felted wool by Noro that my friend bought out for me. You dont need to change the clours and they look really earthy!!
I will take some pictures when they are finished

Also finished the squares for Zaras name flag !

Am a bit sad cos I sent a parcel to Abu Dhabi where they are living before I left the UK with a lovely shawl for the new arrival and a sock monkey for my Great nephew as a little present and they have not arrived !!!! I would love them to have had it now as they are so far away from family and friends and my niece only moved there to join her husband who works there in September.

Anyway must get on and clear up after the lovely visitors. I so hope everyone has better days and if you are celebrating or really happy, truly special days.

Special gentle thoughts to all MIA xxxxx

Good find mioliere. So nice to hear that things are a bit more positive for you and yours.

Chalky, when my sister lived abroad years ago parcels either went missing or had been tampered with and some items were missing. Not much you can do about it either, so frustrating.

    Love to everyone xxx

Chalky - thank heavens that your DH found your crochet hook! I'm sure it would have been very hard to have had to wait for a couple of weeks - it would seem like an eternity! You have reminded me of your name flags - I really must get one done for little Summer. I had planned to do loads but the time is just disappearing away from me, what with being ill, helping DH on the house, and my own online work which has suffered lately. There is just never enough time.

Anyway, I'm about to do some work now, then I can have the afternoon off hopefully. The weather has really brightened up after all the wind and rain - I've even got some washing on the line and DH is cutting back all the hydrangeas we have at the front of the house - I'm sure he can cope with that job on his own; well, he'll have to, because I told him! I do hope the pressies arrive in Dubai. It's unnerving when you have spent time and money on something, then have to hand it over to the postal services, isn't it?

Well, I'd better go and do something constructive.

Kinsey, I hope your brother’s back improves soon, it’s so hard to do anything when you can’t get about. It's a shame you had to go so far to find out they couldn't help him.
Mioliere, hope your sister is soon on the mend, at least she’s in the best place.

Shezmit, hope the parcel arrived, posted Monday. Have you any more squares for me?
