Hi everyone. Not much from me yesterday because I was so cold and tired and still not feeling 100%.

Chalky - I know I said well done to you and your DH for clearing up the bin area, but I also wanted to say how proud it makes me feel. The reputation of the Brits abroad is not always a positive one and what you've done will go a long way towards showing people that we are not all tarred with the same brush. You are our ambassadors in Spain, so thank you very much!

Welsh Poppy - I am in SW France having moved here in March this year. Not as far away as New Zealand, but sometimes it feels like it!

Salome - your family sounds wonderful; you've obviously done a terrific job bringing them all up so well. I am full of admiration for you!

Shez - (((hugs))) to Aaron and hope his foot heals really well.

Pippa - I was just worried you might miss the links. Glad your DH will find them useful and, don't forget, we would love to see some photos!

Well, I'm stilll sniffing for England and France, plus I keep dozing off as soon as I sit down on the sofa, so this cold is definitely lingering on a bit longer than I'd hoped. It didn't help having to go out shopping in the cold yesterday. The sun was shining so it looked warmer than it really was, but I didn't wear a warm enough coat so, when I got cold, I stayed cold! Anyway, I don't need to go anywhere today. Luckily, we have a conservatory that is great once the sun is shining, however cold it is outside, so I suspect I will be spending some time in there today! We have two old sofas in there, so it's great for dozing!

Anyway, enough of all that. I was going to take a photo of the booties I've made but I realised that, in the throes of this horrid cold, I'd sewn the sole of one of them on the wrong way round, so I had to unpick it and re-sew it! A photo will be taken today, once I've sewn the ends in again. It's such an easy pattern but I seem to have made such heavy weather of it!

All the various views on charity shops and wool are interesting. Before we left the UK, I found all our local ones were brilliant at collecting wool and needles, and I found many a bargain. I really miss them now, although I have found one here, just five minutes drive away, that always has something worth buying. Considering wool is expensive here, and with a limited choice, they only charge 50 cents a ball, and are already well aware that I am always on the look-out! I head straight for the wool section as soon as I step foot in there. I don't actually need any more wool, but it doesn't stop me buying it!

I will definitely be doing the update today, I promise. Sorry I didn't do it yesterday.

Well, that's it from me for now.

Maytaurus - looking forward to hearing from you soon. Hope all is well.

    morning all.

Chalky I think someone must have known you are the local knitter and left the wool for you as a thanks, how nice, what was the wool like?

Salome I wish you were my neighbour, but that poor lady needs you more. Your family sounds great.

    Shez hope Aaron's ok now.

Mioliere hope you feel better soon. The charity shops round here very rarely have wool, but obviously I snaffle it when I see it. Lots more people knitting these days so I guess I'd need to go in daily to find it. Did get a couple of bargain lots of mohair at a car boot in the summer, haven't used it yet cos it makes me itch(!), but it was such a bargain.

f1 widow and maytaurus, hope you're both ok.

    love to everyone xxx

    Hi.
I have been up all night nursing my 12yr old who has been sick seven times !!!
I can sympathise with you miolere. Last night I settled myself nicely with some Foyles War CDs and knitted happily away at the sock, hoping to get the first one done then thought I'd made a mistake, so unpicked all that I'd just done. Unpicking Snowflake isn't fun either. Anyway, got back to where I'd started from last night, only to realise I'd mis-read the pattern, and I hadn't made a mistake at all (BIG SIGH) lol. Oh well, shall re-do it all today.
Have a good day all of you.

    welcome to the newbies

nipped in wilkinsons over the weekend and their 100grm balls were only 97p im sure they used to be more than that

thank you for the comments about the HH knitted character, ive had another look at the photos of the toy it is crocheted BUT ive also had a look at the mr bean teddy i knitted my youngest DS (the pattern is on the MSE boards somewhere) and with a bit of repositioning of the muzzle and changing the ear shape that could work.
thank you so much for the link also to the free pattern of the cat/teddy that could also work.

    Poor little one Salome.
Mrs MP does your Wilkinsons sell the furry or ribbon yarn still? Mine only sells DK now and I'm reluctant to order more hedgie yarn from kemps or anywhere because I know I will order other stuff too :D
French onion soup is now in the slow cooker - hasn't got as much garlic in it as suggested because I had no idea I had almost run out so we'll see how it turns out.
    Have good days everyone
  • i didnt notice any fluffy yarn only DK, ill have a proper look next time i go in. if they have do you need some?

  • Hi everyone,

I've been mia for a few weeks it justs seems to be one thing after the other here. It rained all last week I'm not good with rain all I want to do is hide with a cup of tea and cake. Anyway enough of me moaning.:o

Quick question I have knitted a couple of bits for the shoe box appeal which DS1 has taken into school, Can I add these to my totals on here?

I'm in the middle of sewing up ds1's blanket and I'm not sure if I like it now and he didn't seem too keen on the colours(he doesn't know it's for him), still I will carry on & see how it looks once finished.

I've got to go & post parcels today and it's raining again and I want to stay at home.

    ((Hugs)) to all.x

Hi Only Girl - sorry the rain has been getting you down, but hope you are feeling better now. Of course you can add your totals here - anything for any charity anywhere can be added! I started crocheting a blanket for my DGS but kept wishing I'd chosen different colours. It actually stopped me enjoying making it; in the end I left that one on hold and started one in the colours I really wanted.

Salome - (((hugs))) to your little one.

  • of course you can add them to your totals only girl, we include all 'good causes' makes in the totals on here regardless of which method you use to get them to their destination. i know a lot of the things listed seem to go to loving hands and preemies uk but we do include all other charities and good causes that are knitted/sewn or crochted for.
