Hi
I actually got a veggie warmer made yesterday, some charity knitting at last lol.
I'm now making some socks out of Sirdar Snowflake Chunky, for my next door neightbour. She is disabled, and has badly deformed feet, therefore cannot wear shoes. We went to watch the Rememberance Parade yesterday, and it was wet and cold, and her poor feet got wet, and really cold, when my hubby called in later, her feet were still cold :-( I remembered I had this pattern, and I have loads of Snowflake in my 'stash' so cast on sock number one last night. I've altered the pattern slightly, because they don't stay up, I've put some eyelets in the top, and I'll crochet a chain, so she can tie them on so they will stay on. Her skirt will cover the tops. So I'm doing a bit of 'charity knitting at home' lol. Can't have her feet getting cold like that. Not nice.
Happy knitting to you all :-)

Hello all,
Hope everyone is ok, and the AWOLs are not struggling too much.
My back is sore today, which is a drag. Car in for it's annual service- cost £600 last year as needed new timing belt ('tis a 53 plate!) so hoping it won't be that much this time. I know it needs at least one tyre and obviously the standard service stuff too. DS happy today as Nanny's packages are now here (came on sat but we were out so had to collect today)....another Christmas present for him (dress up sets) and also two new hot wheel cars which he is playing with now!
Anyway on to knitting lol, 3 ventilator hats made now and started a new cardi last night (pattern I have not done before) and looking nice- is pink and will hopefully do a preemie as a going home cardi perhaps ?
Am loving the wooligans pics, such talented people we are!
Anyway better get back to folding laundry (taking twice as long as cannot really bend lol!).

K2 TOG -Thanks for kind comments about my blog.
Well near us there is an area where there are 4 large bins. Everybody takes their rubbish there and it is collected about 4 times a week. Close by there is also a skip which people use for Garden waste and large things. The skip was collected last week and lots of rubbish was left behind. We looked at this for a couple of days and hated it. So armed with rubber gloves and black bags DOH and I cleared it all up. Well you will never guess but the very next day right by the bins but all carefully wrapped was 3 great big bags of wool. Doh was just going to go mad about people not putting things in the bin when he caught sight of all these balls of wool. Well it seemed as if it was meant because of our good turn. Isn't life strange !!
I am happily making birds at the moment in Crochet and they are fun . Fiddlier than hedgies though so dont think I will get addicted !!
Reading this back I sound like a bag lady but I promise I am not !
Gentle thoughts to all especially anyone I have not mentioned personally-- short memory and getting shorter!!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
hi chalky, bit calmer here, posted to say well done on your reward for your good deed, strange what people throw out isn't it.
myself i could never thrown a ball of wool away, my house has become a home to unwanted odd balls from the various craft groups i attend
shaz xenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0 -
Wow, Chalky - what a great find, but no less than you deserved for all your hard work!
Salome - that is so thoughtful of you. Your poor friend; not being able to wear shoes, especially in the winter, must be awful.
Jaqui - hope everything goes well and that your cold doesn't get worse.
Orkney Star - hope your back gets better soon.
ISOM - it's definitely the teabags I miss more than anything! Most things we can find substitutes for but only the British know what a teabag should taste like!
Well, I went out shopping this morning and got so cold - the roadside thermometers were registering 6 degrees, so we're having a real cold spell. I couldn't wait to get back home. I think this cold is still hanging on a bit, so I'm having another easy afternoon.
It's been lovely and sunny all day now, and I can just see the sun starting to go down in the neighbouring farmer's field, and all the cows are waiting for him to put them back in their barn for the night. They're queueing up in a line - twenty of them, including four babies. They look really sweet - or as sweet as a herd of cows can look! Louis the cat, on the other hand, hasn't moved from the sofa except to eat!
Anyway, off to peel some potatoes - shepherd's pie tonight by special request from DH!
Hope all is well and that we hear from Maytaurus soon.

Miolere(hope I spelt it right) May I ask where you are in the world? My best friend moved to NZ and teabags are what she misses most so i send her parcels from home:-)
I will do my charity knitting after christmas as started my aran jumper for hubby(my first attempt at aran and a sweater for him)going great guns at the moment what really helped my mum called and we used to knit different she loose me tight but we knit the same so she helped me out and took a ball to do the rib for sleeves and front:D she was a fab knitter really complex aran patterns but has arthritis in 3 fingers so only makes smaller items for small grandson(4 years old)...she would love and sister would love here to make sisters husband who is xxxl an aran jumper so in new year we are both going to knit it together...phew.
But I do have question on varing needle sizes I bought batch of needles on ebay some have mm size so i am happy with those but some say 10,7,6 and look really thin needles?

Hi Welsh Poppy
Hope this helps if your needles are imperial then your size 10 is 3.25 your 7 is 4.50 and your 6 is 5.00 but the USA sizing which means that your size 10 is 6.00 your 7 is 4.50 and your 6 is 4.00 I would think that they are old imperial
lucie0 -
Welsh poppy - I brought a bundle of needles and was always getting confused - I brought a needle sizer from a local shop - if you havent got anyone near you to buy one from PM your address I think I have a spare x
thanks all for your good wishes - the power of the typed word makes me sound calmer but I will think of all your funnies to keep me going (k2tog - am having a very big la la moment ha ha)
chalky - wow well done you - there are not very many like you that would do that job most people these days would walk straight past and not pick anything up - you derserve your treasure - what I dont understand is how people could throw wool out ........... there is such a need for ladies like us - I generally dont pass any by without giving it a home - and whilst Im on that subject ...
I ask most weeks in both our charity shops if they have had any donations in - one always saves me a few balls although they do have other ladies they save for as well - the other shop never sells 'second hand wool' - they have new - they tell me they never get donations???? but have just been told today by someone else the reason they dont sell their donated wool is because a couple of the staff knit hats for the xmas boxes so they get it all ...... am I being a bit scrooge like but should it not be on offer to everyone and we will pay for it !!! ........ moan over !!! (I might be wrong...) the wool business in my town is very cut throat - as I have found out before ... was not allowed to buy it from somewhere else because the ladies knitted for charity ??????
im probably in a bad mood as I have just found out that my landlord has put the house up for sale ..... first I knew was an estate agent ringing to say he was looking after the sale - hey ho
Well Moaning Lady has finished bending your ears - feel better now for writing it down - shouldnt moan - my probs are no where near as bad as others
Love to you all Jaqui xxx
