Thanks everyone. Have visited one venue which was a no, and have quite a few other visits lined up.
How far in advance do I need to start looking at dresses? My mum said this time next year! Isn't that a little late?!First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -

You're thinking of late May / early June? I'd say December next year might be pushing it a little. I got mine in July of this year in a sample sale and have my first fitting in January. Some dresses can take four months to arrive, then you need fittings on top, so 8-9 months before is better IMO.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
I don't think there's any such thing as too early for looking at dresses - my best friend ordered hers over a year in advance.
If I were going down the bridal shop route I'd be looking as soon as the venue and date were fixed, partly cos I wouldn't want to wait any longer (:p), but also because it will take months for the dress to be ordered in, plus at least two fittings...Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

why do we get hung up on age so much?
i keep thinking i need to book wedding stuff like the photog but i still need to save up a bit more to get deposits, i really hope the one i want wont get booked
i also keep seeing materialistic things that i want but the budget keeps holding me back
im beginning to wish i hadnt got such a 'posh' venue because of how expensive it is
it is what i want though so ill just be working every day except public holidays to pay for it!
54 days with no day off ive just done to get some extra xmas pennies:eek:I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
The age thing is a bit weird isn't it? It's dawned on me that I only have a little over four months left of my twenties!! WHERE THE !%$* DID ALL THAT TIME GO????
Ahem.
So, back to the weddings.... :whistle:Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

We are looking at places in Surrey, Kent and South East London. My family live near Croydon and we live near Bromley. His family live in Lancashire and there's only 4 of them so it's better for them to travel down here than to make 70 people travel up there!0 -
Just an update...we've looked at a few venues and sort of fell in love with the first one we saw (the most expensive one) and are now trying to work out how we can make it work.
On Saturday we drove past Chapter One which is a Michelin starred restaurant near us. Looking at their prices, we could get a wonderful wedding breakfast there cheaper than at a venue, but wouldn't be able to have an evening do there. This has led us to reconsider what we want and so we are sort of back to square one!0
