To be honest, my intake before was grabbing things on the go - usually crisps and other savoury cr*p... I'd never eat breakfast and I'd get peckish about 11.30 and grab something (like a bag of crisps!).... some days (probably twice a week) I'd go without anything all day and just have an evening meal.
I thought I had been quite good this week making myself have breakfast and a sandwich for lunch and sitting down with the two little ones while they are having theirs. I don't think I could physically eat more.
I used to 'fill' myself up with a few tassimo capuccinos too during the day but I haven't had any of those this week - I am drinking herbal teas instead... my little checklist in the corner has had lots of smiley faces on it! I am probably not eating as much fruit as I should but I have had some big salads which I have eaten (before, I would put them on the side of my dinner, pick at them a little and leave most of it!).
I am looking at points values when eating - but maybe I should look at foods with higher point values to get me up to my daily limit? I don't know... maybe I should stick to what I am doing for another week to see if my body gets used to it? any suggestions?
wow, we are so alike lol
my Dr has put me on WW (free 12wks), after he made me keep a food diary, and saw how little i ate.
like you, my life is so busy, i just get sidetracked, and food is fairly low down on my priorities, when there is so much else i need to be doing. i could go most days, without eating until well into the afternoon/evening, and it wasnt until i started getting the shakes, that i would realise, oops, i havent eaten today
Now, im eating 3 proper meals, plus snacks, and surprisingly, the weight is coming off
some days i do find it hard to reach my total, but thats only because i go for low point foods throughout the day, worrying that i might get the munchies in the evening, and need to save points for then - but even a naughty blowout rarely costs more than 3pts, so i try to work my daytime meals so i use roughly16-17pts
The first week, i was like, omg theres no way i can eat as much as they reckon, but, now i find it much easier. i think its more the routine of eating thats the block, rather than the actual quantities. Salad is only filling till it reaches your stomach. i think they say that no matter what the food is, your brain is only programmed to eat for a certain amount of time. so 10min on a salad is just as filling whilst you eat it, as 10mins eating a bowl of pasta would be, before your brain says im bored. the only difference is, you get no energy from the salad, whereas the pasta, would be slow burning for the next couple of hours. thats why a salad should contain some protein/carbs, for it be a proper meal

My first official weigh in was this morning - 5 pounds off.:j:j:j:j:j
I know it's mostly my glycogen pool in the first week, but my jeans that I normally have to lie on the bed to get them zipped up are feeling a lot more like I can breathe in them now!:D
well done! thats brilliant0 -

I know what you are saying... sometimes I really can't face eating something and think if I do then I'll be physically sick (and that's not a route I want to go down again - that was my method of losing weight when I was about 18...never again!).
I know what my problem is for gaining so much weight - it's definitely not overeating (ok, it's partly probably eating the wrong things) but it's lack of exercise and too much drink... I have done quite well (well I have compared to normal!!) this week... have had a couple of bottles of the 'lighter' lager instead of my normal 1+ bottle of wine - I'm surprised the binmen didn't knock on the door this morning to see if I was ok as there's usually two big full recycling boxes at the bottom of my drive, but this morning there was just one!!
... kids are in bed and I just have to sit down with a glass of wine... but it doesn't stop there... oh no!! I can't leave an opened bottle of wine in the fridge till tomorrow!! what if it evaporates or someone pinches it or something!!
That is a mindset I know I have to get out of - which is why I am participating in the Wii Fit challenge too!!
Weighed myself (on the Wii Fit) today - lost 1lb and my BMI has gone down from 29.34 to 29.20... and that has been since I done the body test on there on Wednesday, so I am quite pleased with that! See what next week brings!!0 -
Crikey ailuro2, 5lbs is pretty flippin impressive!! That's almost half a stone in one week! Well done you.
I don't have a problem with eating too littleI eat far too often, snacking on biscuits and things all day long, and eating bigger portions at mealtimes than my DH who's a foot taller than me. I am really hating feeling hungry, and also the physical habit of constant munching is hard to break. Luckily I don't really like alcohol (typically 3 units a year for me!) or I'd be too big to fit through the door.
Lack of exercise I am totally with you on that one though!0 -

OMG well done ailuro2!!!! You rock! 5lbs in one week is great and will give you a major psychological boost.I posted my motivations on the other WW community thread, very similar to the one above, here's what I said my resons were for doing this...
Copied and pasted them...
I want my black belt
I don't want to be as fat going to Orlando this Christmas, it'll be much nicer to sit on the plane.
I have tennis elbow but it was suspected arthritis for a while, that has scared me into losing some weight.
I have plantar fasciitis which will be helped by my weight loss.
I have plenty of clothes and nice underwear that will fit me when I lose some weight.
I'm 40 in January, so I have left it too late to be at goal, but if I get there before I'm 41 then that counts:p.
Now my mortgage is pretty much paid off I need another goal that benefits us - my losing weight will help us all because I'll be food planning.
DD is a little bit on the plump side so it would be nice to learn a few healthy habits to share with her.
A new goal for me is I'm having a little operation in November and have been told it would benefit me to lose a bit of weight for that, so one more motivation for me!
For the lady who only eats iceberg lettuce and orange pepper - I used to be a bit like that too, until I decided at the ripe old age of about 33 that I needed to grow up a bit, set a better example to my DD and just start trying new things. Disguising them with gravy or BBQ sauce works well! I confirmed I don't like onions or garlic and curry is out, but now fajitas are my favourite food - lots of peppers, spices, and iceberg on them - I also like Mayonnaise now, which isn't such a healthy discovery, and I'd not tried wraps before, but find they're a nice yeast free alternative to bread. It really is all in the mind! I read somewhere you need to try something 20 times to get used to it. I started with a little bit of something I'd not tried, I would try it when someone else has cooked it (e.g. Asparagus or parsnip, butternut squash etc) and then I know you've not cooked it wrong. Even better out to dinner at a friend's house when it's rude not to try something!
Your goals sound excellent, I am going to make my own list and stick it up somewhere. I wish I lived alone sometimes, OH would laugh if I put them on the fridge!
I was reading the list of no point foods - was surprised to see butternut squash, swede and turnip. I thought that there would be no root veg on the list. So I'm going to make some squash and turnip soup - obviously it will have a points value as I will be using a little oil to fry the onion, garlic and ginger but it will be almost 0 point and I will eat lots of it. Hurrah!!!
Good for you trying new things too, I like your attitude.wow, we are so alike lol

Good point flea, it is important to eat 3 meals a day to keep one's metabolism going.
I love the wise advice in this thread, keep it coming peeps xo

Well done on lowering your BMI lexuslass!
How fattening is alcohol? I guess all those empty sugar calories add up... and then it tempts us to eat junk! I enjoy a drink but stick to the low cal stuff. Red wine is as calorific as I get - I never touch alcopops, Bailey's or beer, or sugary mixers.Crikey ailuro2, 5lbs is pretty flippin impressive!! That's almost half a stone in one week! I am like you NBirdy, I snack far far too much and eat the same portions as my OH (silly really - he needs more calories than I do). I have bought a smaller plate and am going to start using it! I am scared of having to eat smaller quantities to stick to 17 points, but it woould probably do me good to feel actual hunger now and again (I don't even get to the hungry stage much these days, I snack so much). Aliuro - WOW! what a great loss and a brilliant motivator for all of us - well done, and keep it up hun!
lexus - glad you're getting some excercise with wii fit - i joined the challenge too, but mine is still under the sofa! but i have been going to the gym and walking lots more than normal so will get it out today as i will be at home.
Had a reallllly long walk yesterday - got a bit over excited with the excercise thing! walked to school to pick up kids (20 mins) all walked back (25 mins) came home for a toiolet break and then I had the bright idea of walking to pick up DD from nursery!! (45 mins wth me pushing an empty pushchair!) took the kids for some food and then walked to the bus stop (10 mins), got off at the brand new home bargains to mooch around and then walked another 10 mins home! I left home at 3.10pm and cam home at 7pm so almost 4 hours out of the house and most of that was walking solidly!!!
Kids loved it - and have slept really well!!! think today will be a "chilling" day for the kids!!
weekend may be harder due to kids being around and going out - so lets all try to be as good as we can! good luck for our first full weekend on the challenge - just remember to log EVERYTHING so you know what you have eaten and can see how the point total adds up! xx0 -
me again! where are you all???
Im having such a lazy day today it's ridculous! stillin my PJs, house s a tip, have eaten LOADS - and only 0.5 over my points - have included dinner points in that too!
have strated to cook 1 day in advance - so cooked off some marinated chicken last nite while making evening meal and will warm it up in some sort of sauce and have it with sweet baked potatoes and sauteed mixed vegetables - best thing is that the whole family will be eating the same meal - although may give the kids some fishfingers if we run low on chicken!
Have some curry on the hob now for tomorrows meal and will to the preparations tomorrow for Mondays dinner. Helps me feel more organised and helps to sort out meal planning too - have also just joined the grocery challenge to helo with costings for food!0 -
Hey I'm here! I wish I was as organised as you plzhelpmesave. I can see me cooking 4 different meals every night
Have been dashing round after the kids all morning at one of their friends' birthday parties, so your lazy day sounds heavenly!0 -
Well done on lowering your BMI lexuslass!

Very fattening!!
And yes, it tempts us to eat junk... I am mortified! We went out early this morning for our shopping trip and went without having breakfast at home... so what did we do? Went to flamin Macdonalds!!! what did I have? cereal? of course not... I'd got the munchies from having a drink last night and wanted something a bit filthy!!! A sausage and Egg McMuffin and a Hash Brown!! I knew it would be high in points.... but when I came home to track it, I discovered that my little greedy indulgence had cost me 11 points!!!
NEVER AGAIN!!! plus, this evening we are supposed to be having a chinese takeaway! Eldest daughter is over at a birthday party sleepover so OH is grabbing dinner on his way back from Golf!
I have 9 points left... does anyone have any Chinese suggestions? I've found Chicken Chop Suey is 6 points (Prawn Chop Suey is only 3 points... but I don't do prawns!!), and then there'd be Rice on top of that... or a Chow Mein is 7.50
