My parcel from Amazon didn't turn up the other day. I was a bit annoyed until I went to do the washing up and found it had been pushed through the open kitchen window...!

The same thing happened to me a while ago, when I was expecting a parcel delivery, unfortunately for the post man, I saw the card drop and promptly opened the door.

Imagine his embarrassment when I asked him for the package, as he told me that "actually...he didnt have it on him" he was too lazy to collect it from the depot so decided to double bluff me with a "sorry you were out" card.

It happens a lot, they would rather you collect it from the depot for them, so opt to just leave it behind.

  • I have had a few bad experiences in this situation with the postmen in our area. One time the postman did the same as others have described by posting a "sorry you were out" card without actually knocking or even having the parcel on him. I ran after him to ask why he hadn't knocked and he started saying he couldn't help me or speak to me as he has to deliver letters/parcels to the door and not to people in the street (even though we were ten feet from my house!) I told him that was fine but he had just posted the card without checking if anyone was in, he then sheepishly said he didn't even have the package with him!

The next problem lies with those postman who think it is ok to leave your parcels out in plain view or worse than that in a bin! I went round the back of my house one day to do a bit of a tidy up and found a parcel hidden underneath my gas meter box, on closer inspection I found it was a £50 DVD box set I had been waiting for and it had been sat there for 3 days! Another time I was waiting for a package to arrive, when it never showed up we eventually found out the postman had put it in our green recycling bin. Unfortunately for us the day he did that was the day before they were due to be emptied so our neighbor had put the bin out and it was emptied before we found out. Both of these times the postmen never left a "sorry you were out" note!

The final problem, which is the most recent is a postman who has forged my fiancees signature. We were expecting a parcel that was sent recorded delivery. A week after the person had sent it recorded delivery it still hadn't shown up. We queried this with our local sorting office who confirmed it had been signed for. We have found out that not only did the postman forge the signature he also left the parcel on the front door step in plain view of anyone who walks past our house and as it is not nowhere to be seen (I have checked all around the house, asked the neighbors etc) we have to assume it was stolen.

I really wish there was a competitive alternative to royal mail as I have had nothing but trouble from them (don't get me started on the bending of my daughters subscription magazine every month even after numourous words with them !)

Sorry for the extremely long post, I just needed to vent :)

I wish our postman would learn to knock on the door. We've got a porch extention with a half glass front door, then the original front door between the porch and hall.

There is a doorbell, but the postman chooses to tap lightly on the glass door. It can't be heard in the house though - even the dog can't hear it!

I've asked him direct if he can ring the bell, then left messages at the sorting office asking him to ring the bell, and also complained through the form on the Royal Mail website, but he still can't manage to ring the doorbell

Our milk lady is the same, and then weeks later when she finally catches up with us, she complains that we owe her lots of money. I keep telling her to ring the bell as she always comes on an evening when we are in, but she prefers to tap on the glass too.

I think I need a big neon sign pointing to the bell saying "please ring the bell" :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

I very much doubt that he is "lazy" but I suspect management have given him unrealistic target times to finish his round, and he can't spare the time knocking at the door and waiting for you to get your sorry !!!! out of bed.

Do you have one of those wireless doorbells that run out of batteries? One of my pet hates when delivering, take it down or buy a battery!

Common misconception. Posties do not love to put parcels back in their bags to carry about. The mail is heavy enough at the moment with the endless amounts of female clothing catalogues, thermal underwear brochures and Studio Xmas doorwedges.

A large percentage of houses I deliver to have no working bell (oh yeh! sorry the batteries ran out months ago) and no door knocker. There are a large number of customers with no house/door number/name and there are still those who have a letter box the size of a postage stamp.

Some posties do pre-fill the red card whilst in the depot. It saves them doing it on the doorstep. Managers at depots are forcing more packets onto the walking postie as the van drivers often cannot cope with mail volumes because of staff shortages and a recruitment ban.

Why do people have houses without door numbers on them, its hell trying to find addresses in the dark, if everyone decided to be like that and have no door numbers it would be impossible to deliver anything!

No way. thats terrible. I would have made go back to collect it.
  • CityLink (or Sh*ttyLink as I call them are the worse).
They never ever knock the door - just bung the car in.

    Recent nightmares with CityLink:-

    1. Guaranteed 1pm delivery of a parcel. Guy turned up at 7-30pm and when reminded him it should have been there by 1pm he told me I was lucky to have it at all.

    2. Parcel supposed to be delivered by Citylink one day. No parcel and no card. When we phoned the depot they said delivery man had had no reply (there was someone in all day) but had run out of cards to put in the letter box. More like had been nowhere near my house that day!

    3. One CityLink depot managing lose my parcel between trying to deliver it in the day and the evening when I went to collect it. Again, wonder if they ever had it to deliver.
