OP I would google AA1 plumbing, might make their prospective customers think what they are getting into0

BTW it's always worth checking out limited companies at companieshouse.gov.uk
This particular one concerned was incorporated July 2008. I would guess they won't last everso long with their attitude.

Amazing! What customer service. As others have said, avoid. Using their methods I got myself at the top of teh estate agents mailinglist by calling myself Abbott - Very useful got all the latest properties sentNot knowing a lot about plumbing but needing a new boiler installed I selected a few local plumbing firms from the gas safe register and sent the same e-mail to a few of them asking for a rough quote. Here's the reply that I got from one firm called AA1 Plumbing:
"Hi,
Looks like you don't trust anyone to give you a good price to supply and fit. We don't need to chase every person that thinks there going to get cheap price by e mailing everyone.
We are fully booked for 8 weeks that sais everthing about our prices and quality of work.
Don't want your work."
Was I right to get angry about this response? Why is it not right to shop around for plumbing services?0 -
Contacted AA1 and emailed them a link to this thread - but they never sounded even slightly concerned on the phone.
Oh well, perhaps they can afford to lose business.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Yes it is normal to get more then one quote, but for boiler installations it's usually supply and fit due to the tight margins on this work.
But more so to do with the legally required certificates that are necessary with gas installations. You're asking a firm to guarantee an installation of a product they haven't supplied.
No excuse for the guys literacy or manners though...but looking at this from the other point of view I understand where he's coming from. (Don't think I'm defending the chap...just explaining his viewpoint).
Incidentally, I have a chum that owns a plumbers merchants, He sells most of these boilers at a margin of between 2%-4% profit to the trade and makes his money on pipes and fittings an associated peripherals....there really is no margin on these units.
I presume that the product the OP has bought is new, carries a guarantee and meets all the legal requirments, does a certificate require a plumber to supply all products for fitting?0 -
As an owner of a company that does the electrical stuff I find their response apalling.
I too refuse some work (based on insticve / experience and usually a survey). But I only refuse 2-3 jobs a year as most of my stuff comes from word of mouth and repeat business.
As for customer supply goes, I'm playing devils advocate here, but what if you engage their services and they find the boiler supplied isn't suitable for the install and they have engaged 2 guys for 1.5 days?
Who pays for the downtime?
That is why companies have a margin on the materials- they buy more and get a better price, this price helps lowere the 'charged' labour rate and also helps iron out the 'lost' time (materials missing / not ordered correctly)
Try and see things from the other side, but as far as this comapny goes the person who emailed you requires some 'coaching and support' on his / her communication skillsbaldly going on...0 -
thats disgusting from AA1 plumbing, i would never ever use AA1 Plumbing ever in my life, AA1 plumbing are rude and arrogant. AA1 plumbing dont deserve to be given any work. AA1 plumbing are very bad a providing good CS. AA1 plumbing should learn how to deal with customers. i think everyone needs to google AA1 plumbing and click on the MSE forum link that pops up. this will then make it the top of listings and anyone who is even contemplating using AA1 plumbing will get to know how rude and arrogant AA1 plumbing are.0

See baldelectricians reply.
Of course the unit will carry manufacturers guarantees. But what if it's not suitable for the application in question?0
