Thanks for all the replies guys. This was the first time I've started a thread on here, I was so shocked by their response.

Alan, this is the message I sent to the firm using their online enquiry form. I did send the same e-mail to other firms, but separately. "Looking for cost information for installation of Vaillant EcoTEC combi boiler to replace system boiler. Boiler already puchased with flue and magnaclean. Quotes required for installation of new boiler, powerflush and possibly installing new radiators and TRVs (also already purchased)." Maybe they prefer customers who buy their boilers from them but I felt I had a good deal on the boiler.

They clearly aren't interested in fit only work.....

There are ways to say sorry I'm not interested, the example in the original post is not one of them....

Better name and shame as the company name will be indexed by Google and this thread will come up in the results for anyone who searches for them.

You may have got a good price on the materials, but I doubt you got as good as a tradesman would? I would suggest most companies depend on the mark up to make a profit and were a bit peeved you did not give them the chance to quote for materials and that could be why they declined your business.
Not knowing a lot about plumbing
I hope you got some good advice on what to buy?

Name chosen to get themselves to the top of an alphabetic listing and be the first listed in the yellowpages, always best avoided imho.
  • Too late now but buying the boiler and parts was probably a false economy.

Most decent Corgi registered firms won't do fit only - they usually give a guarantee on their work and they won't be able to do this if they don't know where the items came from. Also the guarantees on your boiler etc will be invalidated if they aren't fitted correctly and by a Corgi registered plumber. Agree with missile - the companies usually get better deals as they buy in bulk and can reclaim the VAT etc.

Their email was a bit rude but I wouldn't read too much into it. Work is scarce and they probably get dozens of emails from people trying to cut corners. Just because they are terrible at customer service doesn't mean they are terrible plumbers.

it's an old trick when used within reason and i've used myself with my initials! Most people read the phone book forwards! If your in a competitive industry you don't want to constantly be the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or more choice of customers! However when you start seeing names like aaaaaaa and so on it begins to put people off!

I would never use AA1 plumbing after that appaling level of customer service!
