Well as I suspect that none of us in here are legally qualified, I stand by my advice to seek legal advice on the matter, not on the say so of forum members who may, or may not know the law on these issues.

Certainly the advice to drive on with hazard lights on was bad advice by the police officers.

From what I can find out it is endorseable although I would have thought the PG9 on it's own would have been enough.

As Inactive says you need to speak to someone who knows.

Thanks Anihilator, None of the brake lights were working, this can be caused by a fuse to blow or a connection coming loose. These things do happen with technology but it is not in a Dangerous Condition. I don't think you have seen cars in dangerous condition.

If none were working I can see why the car was prohibited and why you didnt get to drive it away and fix it and needed it confirmed roadworthy. Whether you knew of the fault or not it was dangerous to everyone on the road.

Re the points. Sadly for you whether you realised or not the car was in breach of the law. I really dont see where you think your complaint will go. You may at most get an apology for the attitude but is it worth the hassle.

Pay up and be grateful the fault didnt cause you to have a serious accident.

Going to the police station should not be too difficult. when you get to the enquiry counter ask to speak to the duty inspector. make sure you take their name and collar number for future reference. If they are not available . ( they may be busy ) ask to make an appointment to see them . Take the name and collar number of the enquiry counter officer so you can refer back to them if needed . It was a PC that issued the PG9 then an inspector or above is advised . Although a sergeant may be available there and then . Dependant on what time you go and the amount of resouces the area has availble. please dont expect to speak to someone immediatly . I'm sure they will do their best . If not you can either go on your force website .. usually this can be found on
http://www.police.uk/forces.htmand look for your neighbourhood policing team. there should be a name of an area inspector there. If they dont help , you can go direct to proffessional standards and then to the ipcc.. solving it locally is suggested firstly as they will give you info on where u stand

  • Thank you Dizzybuff,
Anihilator, We agree to disagree, points on my license is my main concern. I do feel because I had a clean license, the policeman wanted to change that. With his aggressive wording, he has put my crime in a different category. I may be wrong but this is how I feel,

It IS a dangerous condition. You could have easily caused an accident by someone driving into the back of you.

I think you need to take your medicine on this one.

  • How exactly is it you think driving a car with no brake lights at all even a short distance is acceptable or not dangerous.

What exactly would prevent a car hitting you because you braked?

As for the rest at the end of the day you can complain all you want but legally you havent been hard done by. Yes other officers may have used their discretion but discretion is just that.
  • You have been harshly treated - no two ways about it. There seems to be no give anymore just take take take! As you say, easily trackable motorists seem to be an easy target.
