The mechanics have found that the Brake switch had broken off, I had to be a wizard to know that. Any way I am hiring a car and will ask my solicitor to send the bill to Police, will this be ok?

Having no Brake lights can be dangerous if other drivers do not have eyes. Bald tyres faulty steering, no brakes is dangerous.

Why would you send the bill to the police?
!!!!! Sebastian re brake lights not being dangerous. Brake lights wouldnt exist if they didnt serve a purpose
As for how you know. Well its called your eyes. Did you not notice the fact cars kept almost hitting you or there was no reflection etc when you braked. Do you not check the condition of your car regularly?0 -

Mate, you had no brake lights, it is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is road worthy prior to each journey. It wasnt and may not have been for some time.
Given your attitude on here i can only guess what you were like with the policeman, hence perhaps his heavy handed approach.
So, yes, if you want to continue to make a !!!! out of yourself, then send the bill to the police, for which your solicitor will gladly nod sagely as he takes notes about how hard done by you were and take £100 off you.0
