  • No it is not acceptable, yes she is an adult and therefore entitled to privacy.

Support her in mentioning this practice to the powers that be. Don't do it for her as she has to learn how to handle adult things herself.
Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool

  • She could also mention it to the student union or student representative group. i don't know what they are called at her Uni but at mine there is a student representative who deals with this sort of issue.

thanks.....i will support her in doing so you are correct she is an adult and entitled to privacy

first time away from home etc so i think it was a shock to her for the man to just walk in

  • So he was a bit fast in opening the door - poor guy was probably just trying to get through his shift as quickly as possible. If you complain (I agee with other posters - you should let your DD handle this, she has to learn to deal with these things herself, this is part of uni life) then he may get into trouble or worse! Can't your DD just put it down to experience and learn to lock her door? I always did this at uni - stops drunk flatmates wondering in by accident :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm sorry but I think you are over-reacting and this is a bit symtomatic of our complaining culture. These things happen.

Iam not overreacting and i have already said iam going to encourage her to do it herself as i also agree with other posters that it would be best.

Her door was locked ! he has a key

You say he was swift in opening the door ! i personally dont think he should open the door for such a minor thing as handing in a cable ! but thats my opinion and you are entitled to yours

Surly its bad practise for himself to be doing this too incase he gets accused off something

Poor guy he was probably trying to get through his shift lol ! poor practise imo
and i will ask her to find out if this is the way things are done at the uni just to make sure he wasnt breaking any rules and if he was then maybee it is only right that he should be pulled up on it because i personally do not think this is good

An 18yr old girl just leaving home needs to feel safe ..yes she is an adult but iam 47 and i would not feel safe if i thought that somebody was just going to walk into my room at any given moment would you ?

I would let it go and tell her to put it down to experience, depending on door lock they may still be able to open it if she leaves her key in,
buy a cheap wedge shape doorstop and tell her to pop it under the door that way it will stop the door opening all bar being bashed open.

It is also a system that can be used in high crime areas just place one by each door

yes she is 18 and a wee bit scared to complain i did say to her to complain and she asked me to do it so i will
At 18 i know she should complain herself as she is an adult but only just

Why do you ask for other people's opinions if you've already decided what to do?
