Correct bra Size and 'big' knickers

  • My DD is a size 4-6 and measures 27 underbust and 32 over, so the old way she is either a 32A or a 30B I think, so would that make her a 28D Bravissiomo way, she would lol at being a D!!
Just got the tape measure out and I'm 31 underbust and 39 over (thats without a bra cos I'm still in my PJ's), so is that 32FF?
I might try a few bras on in that size and see what they are like. I currently wear my 36D's on the tightest or middle fastening and they fit quite nicely, but thats because I tend to try before I buy as each shop seems to have different fittings.

  • You should always buy a new bra on the loosest setting - the reason being that they get looser when you wash them, so it gives you room to tighten them up. I would certainly try a 32f and ff, you might be shocked.

Even if your correct size os the 32 (which sounds likely) it will probably feel a little strange to start with, just because you won't be used to having something as fitted. However, you will probably notice you look a completely different shape too, I changed sizes fairly recently from a 30 to a 28, and the difference is incredible.

If you have a debenhams or john lewis nearby then they seem to use the same sort of fitting technique as bravissimo. Just please don't go to M&S for a fitting!!!

I agree about M & S not doing a great job. they measured me at 42c and my real size is 36 FF, it makes a massive difference losing 6 inches of unnecessary material, I tend to buy Freya bras as they are so pretty and comfortable.

Im off shoping for bra's and knickers today..im doing an holistic therapist course :D we practise on each other for now..so 3 massages a week except im so embarrased by my old bra's - i think its time to hoist myself into something where my boobs are where they should be and not where they fall

as for big pants - i have my feeling flirty pants but i do love my comfort pants...

my friend bless her is a 36M  - but she has to have a 38JJ as they dont make an M cup..now you really could use her bra's as emergecny shelters...

  • Thankyou scotsgirl for all the useful advice :)
I have one other question, isn't it hard to get bras in those sort of sizes in the high street? Does anyone have any recommended brands?
A 36D is nice and easy to find, but even trying to get 34DD is hard especially as I really like H&M undies and they are all for tiny ladies ;)

I find that independent lingerie shops do stock more unusual sizes especially if you start to form a relationship with them, as I said previously Freya do some lovely styles and in a vast range of sizes. If you can't find what you like on the high st try Figleaves(via Quidco of course) you should get at least a 10% saving on RRP if you use the discount codes.

The way I work it out is if you go down a back size go up a cup, as a 38DD is the same cup size as a 36E.

This is a really good thing to remember.
38DD is the same cup size as 36E is the same cup size as 34F - and so on.
Although I find that cup sizes do vary between manufacturers - and even style.

Over 30 years ago when I was in my 20's I was a 32D - which was a fairly big bust for that time (does anyone think that a lot young girls/women nowdays seem to have big busts?).
It was a nightmare trying to get pretty bras in the right size - don't even THINK about how much they cost.
Even M&S didn't do those sizes so it was a proper corsetiere shop.

But now, as a 34E or F, I find it easy to get nice bras - in M&S, La Senza and even Primark have a range for 'bigger busts'.
  • I personally get on well with Freya and find the fit really good - tends to be easy to get in the big department stores. Other ladies prefer panache - same again with availability. Debenhams have a range called Gorgeous which is available up to a G cup and is quite reasonably priced. John Lewis have an own brand range too, and whilst I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for a fitting some of the M&S range is quite pretty too, although not as supportive. Just make sure you know how a bra should fit before you go there, and be prepared to try different sizes (probably a cup up from Freya) as they fit quite small. Unfortunately H&M/topshop etc are useless once you go above a d/dd though. La Senza tend to come up small in the back and cup, so you may find that if you are actually a 32ff, then it could be worth trying a 34ff in there, but you can get better quality and fit in other ranges.

For cleavage, I'm quite a fan of the moulded cup wonderbra, and I've found the sizing fairly true. http://www.figleaves.com/uk/product.asp?product_id=WDG-9145

I will say though (having been smaller) that whilst you pay more for a bra in these sizes, they tend to last quite a long time, as the manufacturing quality is pretty good in general.
  • Thanks everyone for the great advice...I can feel a shopping spree coming on!!
I have a 34E from La Senza but never wear it because the wires don't sit right on me, it just seems the wrong shape if you know what I mean and I get four boobs in their 36D's. I have a Debenhams and a John Lewis locally so I'll pop in and look at the ranges in there.
Woohoo I'm going to be an F/FF lol!! (might put that on my facebook status and see what comments I get teehee!)

Freya and Panache here. I'm looking forward to going bra shopping again, just have to wait until I stop breastfeeding.

I fancy a Rigby and Peller one too!
