:T:T Good thread!! For many years I'd resigned myself to being a flat chested 36A (thanks M and S!)- got measured properly and I'm now a very curvy 30DD!:j:j
  • I was measured (for first time) in Debenhams about 9 months ago, I had always worn a 34B
but came out with a 32D! As for knickers I wore thongs for years but now prefer the mini bikini briefs, but always buy one or two sizes bigger because I can't stand the 'knickers up your bum' syndrome!
  • I was measured in M&S as a 40F. I was then measured in bravissimo a couple of months later and I am actually a 34H!

As for knickers, I have different ones depending on what clothes I'm wearing and wear the appropriate style depending on what I have over them!

White knickers under white trousers is a complete no-no. Skin coloured ones please ladies!

I use a local independant bra shop, the fitters don't measure but they get ladies into a bra that fits, and be aware that trying a different manufacturer's bra can lead to a completely different size...

I also use a local independant bra shop, who fit not measure.

I find Bravisamo good as a national chain but M&S are absolutly useless at getting women bras that fit and they make such a thing of their fitting service.

Don't you love that perception that you can only be a small back size if you are a size 6! I get a similar comment all the time (28-30 back) and it's so annoying. Thing is, if you are wearing the right size bra, you'd probably struggle to wear even one back size too small as it would struggle to close, and you'd definitely toil with more than one.

it's so annoying! I fasten my new bras on the loosest hook - as you should do, don't buy a bra on the tightest hook because when it stretches, you have no tighter hooks to go to! I love Panache bras, Freya ones look lovely but just don't fit
  • I measured myself a year ago and voila - I changed from 34B to 30E, although I feel like I'm moving into the region of 28F now...

Contrary to Brighthair - Freya bras fit perfectly, Panache look weird on me :(

I seem to be a different size depending where i buy the bra from. Wore 32c for ages, then was measured in la senza as a 30dd. Didn't buy a bra there though as couldn't afford £24 just for one!! So went to various other stores and couldn't find that size anywhere. Ended up just trying several sizes, and ended up with a few 32c's from h&m, but not convinced they fit as well as when I bought them now though. Time for another measure maybe. Just cant justify la senza's prices no matter how pretty/well made they are.

  • OMG. they look like a two legged wind sock and some of them are so 'big' I swear she could go parascending in them.

My husband calls my knickers parachutes and likens my bras to those catapult things that the Romans used to throw stones at their enemies.:rotfl:

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • So, I'm confused, are we supposed to add the 4 or 5 inches to the back size or not? (because I get the impression Bravissimo don't do this and each extra inch around your boobs is a cup size??)
I fit perfectly into most 36D or 34DD's (I usually can tell by looking at the cups if it will fit), but without adding the extra inches I would be a 32F?? That would be like wearing my stick insect teens back size?
I measure 39 around the boobies I think.
Can you only get your bras from Bravissimo if you measure like this?
Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by

  • Bravissimo don't actually measure - they never use a measuring tape. However, using my own measurements then it is roughly that underbust measurement = back size and each extra inch is a cup. It's not exact tho.

32 really isn't stick insect though - i'm normally a 12 on top, sometimes 14, and I wear a 28 or 30 depending on the bra. a 32f isn't too bad a size to buy for - you can still get that easily in placess like debenhams, john lewis etc, plus ranges like wonderbra do up to a g cup starting in a 30 back.

How fitted is the back of your bra? the band should be snug, you should only be able to run a couple of fingers underneath it, and it should sit horizontally around your back - if it rises up even a little bit in the middle once you are wearing it, it's probably too big.
