Thanks Heinz - thought you would come up trumps. Uni son sent me wrong number  .0

Can anyone (perhaps Heinz) tell me how much it costs to phone an 0871 number UK daytime ? Have tried the UK call checker and it only shows 0870. Could not find an alternative on "say no to 0870" or 118118.com. so I am stuck as I need to call this company. Thought I would chance it and used 18185 but got a message saying "this is a special tariff number which we do offer""0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

I believe 0871 and 0870 are the same rate, but not 100% sure0

0871 cost a variety of rates upto 10p/min at all times. To tell how much it will cost, the next three or four digits must be known. Unsuprisingly, alot of companies opt for 10p/min numbers, probably because there's no requirement for call prices to be displayed.
The prices are from BT landlines and I would be suprised if you will find other cheaper providers. If you do, they will most probably be making a lost, so such a rate wouldn't last.0 -
Whatever you do, don't call from a mobile - the cost is likely to be into rip-off city.
The BT prices can be worked out from the below PDF file (find the first few digits - 0871 numbers start at the bottom of page 12 and continue to the middle of page 16 [you sometimes need up to 8 to be sure you have the right one] - and then scroll down to page 28 to find out the cost).

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks everyone. I was able to work out from the download provided by Heinz, that my call would cost me 10p per minute, absolute rip-off! It is cheaper to call the USA or NZ than that."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

What great advice. I used it for the first time this morning ringing the Hotpoint service centre. A long wait was much more bearable knowing I wasn't paying a fortune.
Thank you do much0 -
