  • I have recently had to ring both Ryanair and Ticketmaster to book disabled access facilities or support for elderly relatives. We rang Ryanair 6 times and after connection each time waited in excess of 30 mins before completing transaction to arrange wheelchairs. I waited 45 mins to book disabled acess tickets to the 02 with Ticketmaster. This is clear discrimination against disabled people and should be stopped immediately by these large organisations.

I hope you didn't ring the Ticketmaster 084/087 numbers as I know that there are alternatives. I have some 01 alternatives for the Ticketmaster line on behalf of O2 Arena some of which are listed on Saynoto0870. If the exact alternative isn't available, I'm sure that we can provide a number which will direct you to someone who can help.

I ask only because as the dominant telco in the UK they are supposedly not allowed to abuse their position in the market by cross-subsidising services. i.e. How are they paying any revenue share elements of the now "free" calls?
With 08 and 09 numbers the amount BT keeps is regulated. So now BT has changed its retail prices, it can change the amount it pays out to telephone companies (known as "termination payments") which operate the 0845/0870 numbers.

It is not allowed to make a loss on these numbers, although in the short term it might do because the termination payments have yet to be changed.

So I'm not so sure that the line rental increase has anything to do with inclusive 0845/0870 calls. I think that the increase of the call set-up fee by just over 1p (inc VAT) will help soften the blow in reduction in termination payments brought about by making some calls zero fee.

why discrimination? you obviously phoned at a busy time hence having to wait.
  • My partner recently made an 0870 call even though I'm always telling him not to (grrr) it may have been to his bank, but wherever it was he was on the phone for an age. When he eventually did get an answer, he said to the person on the other end of the line...'You must be very busy today as I've been on the phone a very long time?' 'Not at all, actually we are very quiet here today, nothing happening'. So there you have it. Makes my blood boil! I would rather hear an engaged signal as it used to be and have to keep trying rather than pay to hear some crappy music and end up slamming the phone down in despair! It really should be illegal?
  • i could go all technical on how the lines work if you really want pisciesgirl...
  • Maybe interesting if you were to give us a brief detail (not too technical !).

  • Have any of you noticed how many businesses have 'migrated' over to the '0871' number over the past year??:mad:
