I thought they had reduced their prices to reflect the new VAT rate. However, looking at their advertisements they seem to have reorganised their packages. I must check my latest bill against what they are now charging.

I will post any communication I get from them (once they have contacted New Delhi!).
Thank you for reading this message.
• This was the reply I got to the VAT rate

Thank you for your reply.

We have not changed our line rental and call plan prices but we will be looking to provide additional value to customers with a series of special offers - many presenting greater value than 2.5%. We will have more details later this month when you will be able to choose an offer that suits you.

Then they get you for another 18 months (I think)

as for the news that bt are including it in their weekend packaages good for them-but when will virgin and the like follow as im not spending out to get bt installed jsut because its a few free calls

No chance, just received following e-mail from Virgin; -
If you sometimes make calls outside of your Virgin Media Talk package, from 3rd February 2009 there will be some changes to the way these calls are charged.

• Daytime calls – if you make calls from 6am to 6pm to UK landlines (numbers beginning 01, 02 and 03), from 3rd February they’ll cost 4.4p per minute.

• Evening and weekend calls – calls to UK landlines (numbers beginning 01, 02 and 03) outside of your included evening and weekend calls, will also be charged at 4.4p per minute.

• International calls – these rates are also changing. For example, a daytime call to France will now cost 32.3p per minute.

• 0845 and 0870 numbers – calls to 0845 numbers will be charged at 6.85p per minute, with calls to 0870 numbers costing 9.79p per minute. The connection charge for both these types of numbers will now be 9.79p.

Just so you know, the connection charge for any chargeable calls you make (excluding calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, which are listed above, and premium rate numbers) will now be 7.82p.

Don’t forget…
These price changes only affect calls that you make outside of your call package. Calls included in your Talk plan aren’t chargeable for the first 59 minutes. So, if you've got more to catch up on after that, just hang up and redial the person you're calling to keep chatting for the next 59 minutes. Simple!

Kind regards

if you have a doctor's surgery with a 084 number try googling your doctor's name. i've got local numbers for our surgery because there are a number of doctors who work there who (like most doctors) belong to some medical organisations and they tend to list the surgery address and local phone number on these web sites.

"If you dialled 1280 before calling 0870 and yet been charged at your provider's standard rate, then do please post in the 0870 discussion, to help us build a list of 1280-exempt providers. "

Remember before you start bashing in 1280 and dialling up 0870s & 0845s that if your with the likes of sky, talk talk etc etc and still pay your line rental to BT the chances are your on the Unlimited Weekend Plan" with BT so you will only get 0845 and 0870 call free for up to an hour over the weekend only.
All hail the Jack Daniels Swozzler!
• With regards to the news that 0870 and 0845 *** numbers are to be free on evening & Weekend plans etc with BT, does this include 'data calls' on 0845?

I ask because my Mother uses an 0845 *** number for dial up internet connection.

No ! It specifically states that it does not apply to internet dial-up accounts.

Re BT dropping charges for 0870/0845 numbers... are they actually allowed to do that without also passing on the savings to other providers to pass onto their own customers?

I ask only because as the dominant telco in the UK they are supposedly not allowed to abuse their position in the market by cross-subsidising services. i.e. How are they paying any revenue share elements of the now "free" calls?

Maybe it's late and I'm simply confused.
Cheers

Thank you for your email regarding BT's price changes.

I can confirm that Talk Talk do not currently have any plans to stop
charging for calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers.

If in the future Talk Talk do decide to follow BT and not charge our
customers to dial these numbers, you will be notified.
Thank you for reading this message.
• I would lik to see Martin promote 03x numbers. Many companies who do not agree with their clients paying a premium price are switching to 03 numbers. These ARE included in all packages as per OFCOM's guidelines.

Sadly these numbers need more publicity and many folk are unaware that to call an 03 number is no more expensive than an 01 or 02 number.
