Re BT dropping charges for 0870/0845 numbers... are they actually allowed to do that without also passing on the savings to other providers to pass onto their own customers?
I ask only because as the dominant telco in the UK they are supposedly not allowed to abuse their position in the market by cross-subsidising services. i.e. How are they paying any revenue share elements of the now "free" calls?
Maybe it's late and I'm simply confused.
other providers work with BT wholesale the exact same way BT retail do. If the other companies choose to follow suit no-one is stopping them and its their choice.
Bt retail leases the lines of BT wholesale the same as any other service provider (except virgin) and its paying the cost for each and every call made. Hence in the press release its costing BT retail 24million.
Note* Bt wholesale is the company that provide the lines to every service provide that wants it including BT retail. it has to treat every provider the same and offer the lines to them at a certain price. the calling plans are chosen by each provider individually.
BT retail is the equivelant to sky, talk talk, tiscali etc etc etc and has the exact same access and rights as all of them. no company has a dominant position within the market and none has a monopoly. All hail the Jack Daniels Swozzler!:beer:0 -
I have used the saynoto0870 for a while and I am grateful to whoever set up this facility, I think it also works for 0871, I just wish it worked for 0844 as well :-(0

I've used it for several 0844 numbers myself.
The website says it works for all 08 numbers...0 -

Hi all,
I was also quite pleased that BT have decided to include 0845 and 0870 numbers within the free inclusive call time of their packages. This would now save me time trying to source local rate alternatives.
However reading down the email I was also quite disappointed to learn they have increased their line rental by £1 a month for all customers. This takes effect on the 1st April so I know there are some jokes there about fools.... Will this increase make up for the extra cost to BT of offering free calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers...?0 -

Don't be pleased, they are scamming you, BT do not give anything away! A 10% increase in line rental when inflation is at less than 3% and we are in a recession!
From what I have read, BT have 14 million customers, £1. per month on every bill means an extra £168 million pounds a year, BT say the 0845/0870 move will cost them £24 million a year, you do the maths!
Plus it appears they are removing the F&F, ( http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?action=post;num=1231409039;quote=100;title=PostReply), and including something else, bottom line is you will pay a lot extra!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Okay my maths isnt great but I get the idea. Thieving rotten cheating....(you get the idea!)
I moved my internet services away from them last year because of the atrocious 'support' they provided. (On more than one occasion I was trying to explain to their technical support what they needed to do, to fix problems I was having.)
I would love to think that the extra revenue would be put towards a better Customer/Technical Services department, but appreciate the idea is laughable.
Thanks for the F+F tip, I had missed that one. (sigh)0 -
