fantastic reeree!!!! am so pleased the lea guy was so supportive and helpful!!! I can guess how worried you have been.....and your DD must have been unsure that she had done the right thing until she heard what the lea guy said. hope she is reassured now! not to mention the info pack you put together - my betting is she was really impressed when she saw the effort you and her son put into home schooling.
I know that you were doing the right thing (and you knew it too didnt you?) but it is nice to have vindication from an official level - and boy, you have got that havent you???
well done reeree and well done your lovely DG!!! give him big hug from me!!!0 -
woohoo! what a great meeting, well done that LEA guy, I'm moving to Derbyshire!!
Seriously though reeree, I'm so glad it was such a positive meeting and it's brilliant that he was able to confirm you were doing the right thing and reassure your DD. Onward and upward now.
All the very best for the future for your DG and his SuperGran!Turn £100 into £10,000 in 2010 member # 247

I've only quickly skimmed through the posts, so I apologise if I'm repeating something that's already been said.
http://www.home-education-exams.org.uk/ has lots of information about taking qualifiations
http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm has a complete maths course for all levels, right through to GCSE & A level.
If you think your grandson might be interested, look into Air Training Corp. They do a BTEC qualification that is equivalent to 5 GCSEs.
Find your local Duke of Edinburgh award group - http://www.dofe.org/takepart/ Its great fordeveliping their self confidence & also looks great on a CV/application form for jobs or university. My DS does this, and I just wish I'd persuaded him to go along sooner! A while back I was getting the usual cross examination about HE from a doctor & he totally changed his attitude once I mentioned that DS was doing DofE.:D
i think my dg would be interested in this but would like to find out more before i put it to him, what is it exactly your ds is doing, to be honest i dont really know alot about it but would be very interested to find out more0 -
just to let everyone know the 3 months since the lea man came is over and he came back on tuesday to check how dg is doing, l cant tell you how nervous i was, this time l was on my own as dd left it to me this time which i was delighted with as she has now started to show alot more faith in me, 3 months ago this would have never happened in fact 2 months ago it wouldnt, anyway once again he checked over dg work, and said he was delighted with it, he had no critisism over anything, said he was getting a wide variety of subjects done and that we were buying all the right books , he said he really admired his drawings and paintings which l must say were good before but now i can see he is improving all the time, if l showed you the work he did at school and the work he is now turning out none of you would believe it. the man from the lea said he was so happy with dgs work that he did'nt need to see him for another year l was so pleased. As for dg he is much happier now, he's stopped comfort eating all the time he actually asks for fruit now instead of biscuits or crisps and best of all he's no longer being abused by the kids at school, he's exercising every day and he gets to see his friend who sometimes stays over. he's still very shy but he's still seeing the councillor who is slowly bringing him out of himself, Once again l would really like to thank everyone for your invaluble advice and especially those of you who took the time to pm with your own experiences as l know how hard it must have been for you to go down that particular road, you know who you are, thankyou so so much from me and dg xx0

Wow, this is a really inspiring thread! Good for you, he is a very lucky boy to have you and so is your daughter! You sound like you are doing a great job and that your gc is really responding positively to it. I have always thought that I would like to home school any children that I may have one day and this has been quite an inspiration.
I think we all need one of you in our lives0 -

I think you've been a great GM.
I haven't read through the whole thread, but have you considered a martial art for him?
It will give him self confidence, toughen him up and I promise, he will enjoy it.
Some classes are better than others, but good classes won't allow anything like bullying, best to try a couple if he doesn't like one.
It will allow him to meet with new boys his age too. People who do this sort of thing, tend to be level headed and decent types.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
