Thanks for the hello, I have set up my account im just waiting for all the paperwork to come through, I also set up the co-op account after tinytim on here suggested that it was a good account, ive got to say the lady on the other end of the phone was really nice, and really helpful :T
I think you've made a good choice. I really cannot fault their telephone customer service, something i find sadly lacking in so many companies nowadays.
The only downside to the Co-Op Cashminder account is no cheque book but you can always get a Postal Order. I know a pal of mine opened a Barclays account when she had an IVA and wasnt allowed any debit card facilities at all. She had to go and get cash out all the time and couldnt do any online shopping etc....
Not sure if it was due to her particular circumstances but I find you can use the Visa Electron most places and perhaps a little more 'dangerous' for the uncontrolled (like me!, OH has to monitor me!), I feel less isolated, more 'normal' and less restricted. I feel bad/guilty enough about having to go Br without having to the stress of getting cash out all the time etc.
I know some may say that Br and exclusions on accounts etc there to make sure you dont get into a financial mess again and realise the serious implications of the action, but believe me, i know that already and feel stressed enough without having to get cash out all the time etc...
Co-op were quite quick with my account paperwork so good luck, & hopefully you wont have to wait too long. We are just waiting to hear from OR & are praying that he/she doesnt freeze our account as we have loads of DD's waiting to come out in next few days! Lisa0 -

thanks jubbly,
actually the account I have now with the nationwide doesn't allow a debit card, so for the last 3 years or so I have only been able to deal with cash no cheque book and no debit card, which is a bit of a pain if wanting to buy anything online, Ive had to buy everything cash, which I imagine has helped me a hell of a lot. SO in a way Im quite looking forward to having a debit card, haven't had one for so long, it will be nice to be able to order online instead of having to go to the shop to buy everything.
