  • My Mum never favoured me :( That said, I was about 7 when she started childminding, and she always looked after pre-school children, so obviously thier needs were much more immediate than me wanting a sandwich! I think if the children are younger, it is a positive thing. I loved having 'siblings' to play with. My Brother was a bit older than me, and would sometimes do evening babysitting for some of the kids my Mum looked after!

I was about 8 or so when my mum started too. If a CM has kids at school then it doesn't bother me, I know that they will be around for some of the day before and after school, but like you say, the needs of older kids are generally less immediate than those of babies. But that is a bit different to the minder having their own baby/toddler around. If your baby is crying and someone elses is too how hard would it be to put someone elses baby first?

i think she said this one was going to nursery in the morning? i dont know, i was shaking when i made the calls so i dont really remember :o

i did think it was quite positive that she was happy to see me any time, she offered to see me yesterday but as it was 4.30 when i made the calls i thought it would probably be a bit late by the time i got there! so obviously it must be a "always ready" kind of house IYSWIM

I missed if you said anything about MM...was there new material or was it stuff you have seen before? We saw him when I was pregnant at the civic (front row!! I am such a good ticket buyer!!) which was one of the reasons that we weren't so upset about not going. Can't believe he has gone from the Civic to the NIA in 12 months!!
I remember you going to see him at the civic, he came to talk to you afterwards didn't he...

It was side splittingly funny, loads of new material, in fact I think there were only about 3 jokes I've heard before! Hubby has praised your seat buying abilities to all who will listen too... He wants to know your secret!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

there you go being a wise woman again ;)

apart from anything, i rang 7 childminders yesterday and this was the only one that can take seth with the hours i work - i will be doing 9.30-6pm and when i said i would be picking up at about 6.10-6.15pm they all said no as 6pm was their limit and they prefer them to be picked up closer to 5.30!!

nothing is ever easy is it?!

I am not saying it can't work - just make sure you ask some questions to make sure that she knows that you are wary of it. I am sure that she will be very reassuring.

Also - ask how she deals with naughtiness, biting and fighting etc - someone listed it on here as a 'trick question' and it is really interesting seeing how they respond (and how that ties up with your own ideas of how you would deal with it).

Or a doesn't care kind of house!! We went to see one with a laminate floor and Benjamin crawled under her coffee table and came out the other end looking like a duster!!!

I also think it is quite telling how quickly they ask to hold the babbin. Always wait for them to offer, a lady who loves kiddies will not be able to resist asking for a cuddle for more than 15 minutes!

  • Good luck Em :) You will feel better about it when you have visited I'm sure. (That's how I was with nursery anyway - I just wish I could go too and join in the fun ;) )

Oh - having a baby has made me eat healthier - before I would never have fruit in the house - not that I don't like it, but just that it would never occur to me to buy it. But now I am buying it for Izzy I'm enjoying it too :) We are currently sharing an orange. Izzy is sharing her bit with my skirt :)

I can understand this as they might have other children from 7am so it makes it a long day if they are still working til 6.30pm and the amount of planning and red tape stuff you have to do is so time comsuming! You don't get paid for your planning/accounts time which then eats into your own time with your family which is why I'm not sure if I will return to childminding after my maternity leave. If you want to ask me anything about her policies, practices etc then just let me know.

Has anyone got experience of the contraceptive injection? I'm taking noriday at the moment which is a progesten only pill as I'm still BF but its causing havoc with my moods, headaches, etc and don't even mention weight gain!

I've put on about 4/5 stone since I starting taking the pill (about 8 yrs ago) and after having DS2 I've gone onto this noriday but its making me so miserable & tired. Let alone no sex drive at all (there wasn't much to start with!!) Poor OH has managed 3 times since Reece was born and he's 21 weeks old now.

I don't really want to give up BF just yet to go onto a combined pill but don't want to make things worse as the injection you are stuck with until it wears off. We've also talked about a more permanent solution but as we're not completley decided if two children is enough its not realy a good idea just yet.:o

and Reece slept through the night again last night!!!:T:T:T Thats 3 nights in a row:j:j:j

He picked on me during the show! He was loking for pregnant women and hubby shouted out! He was asking about names so he could take the mick out of our choices and I said our favourite was Michael and stumped him :rotfl:
Then he fell over and dislocated his shoulder

I keep my eyes peeled and react quickly!! I am also registered for pre-sale tickets with loads of places. We used to go out to see something or other nearly every week...PB. We are going to see Tim Minchin at the end of the month though - and staying out for the night in Brum :T *note to self, need to find muchos bargainous hotel*

My baby needs to go to bed but there is fun and games going on in our close and I am enjoying watching it all!!

Claire, the injection suited me, and I had it for about 4 years. It took a long, long time for my periods to return to normal afterwards. A lot of women experience weight gain and lack of sex drive on it, but I don't know if my huge weight increases were down to that, or the masses of cakes I ate. Is there a non-hormonal coil? Would that be an option?
