Well as far as I know ruby is putting on more weight as she was never drinking enough milk, didn't feed for long etc. Anyhoo, it is a bit disgusting pouring food down a babies throat though, esp if they can't hold their head!

I'm going to interupt with an mse tip and be on topic for once :rotfl:

I was in boots and until 20th Oct they are doing 3 4 2 on pampers nappies (we use them during the day). This makes size 4 active fit nappies £18 for 3 packs. Also, in my parenting post out I had £5 off a £15 spend on baby products voucher which meant I paid £13 for three packs or £4.33 or so per pack :D

Pampers are also on offer in tescos - but at at £6 a pack and only 48 nappies per size 4 pack, instead of 50 per pack in Boots ?????

ETA: that in my tesco parenting club vouchers from ages ago (which are valid until 28th Oct) I have one for £1.25 or off pampers active fit anysize so this makes a pack from tescos really good value too. I might have to go back and get another pack......

general chat may resume now as I go back and catch up ;)

  • We gave Jasmine her first bit of 'real' food at 12 weeks, although we didnt start properly weaning till 4 1/2 months. Only reason we did was because she was on 5 9oz bottles a day and was still hungry !! She could however hold her head up and had lost the tongue thrust thing

    hi all,

elle - was thinking of you today but only manage to come online at night so have only just seen how things went. sorry it was so horrible and very glad to hear you are both home.

mfd - sorry hun missed your post last night about saying how difficult weaning is. i am at a loss at the minute as bubs is not wanting to eat anything. she had maybe two spoonfuls at lunch and one at dinner. to be fair she is just over that virus but now seems to have a cold so i know that is why she isnt eating. going to be hard to get back into the swing of things when she feels better.

motm - nice to see you!!!

had a lovely day with some mum friends but during a chat with the HV and the same mum friends i broke down as we were talking about the sleep probs we are having. just feel so stupid. i keep so much in and tried so hard, but it was talking about that and something else that tipped me over to cry in public (something which is usually reserved for the bedroom or bath!!)

    xx

i weaned seth at 14-15 weeks and he was a different baby almost straight away :o
before i weaned him he was feeding 9oz every hour and half and was very very unsettled, wouldnt nap properly without a massive battle, was colicky and generally cried much of the time - and so did i :o
almost as soon as i did, the colic eased, he went to 3-4 hourly feeds, only cried when tired and naps 3 times a day for a hour and a half to two hours. i'd make the same choice in a heartbeat :)

but he has had very good head control almost since he was born, was definitely able to hold it up for long periods by 8 weeks. i probably would have thought differently if he wasnt able to hold his head up when i did it :undecided

She hasn't had her 3 month check because she isn't 3 months for another 10 days. She can't hold her head up for more than a few seconds so she needs to be laid back to be fed, which is so wrong, it is literally pouring runny food down the babies throat _pale_

As I understand it, early weaning can cause renal problems and that has scientifically proven. The date after which it is deemed to be 'safer' is 17 weeks. I am not a great believer in measuring things by weeks as you know, prefering to go by baby's ability - but 11 weeks (okay, she is 12 weeks tomorrow) is just too far removed from the safe point to be acceptable. And if there is an 'indicator' as to when baby is able to wean, surely it has to be linked to an ability to control their head?

    I'll shut up now :silenced:

my tuppence is that a COUPLE (max) weeks early is probably fine IF baby shows all the signs of being ready - sitting up (i.e in a bumbo or something), good head control, obsessed with others eating habits, chewing everything etc etc However, i think one should wait for these signs rather than wean immediately they hit the 'correct' age.

weight gain - we've found that since LO has started eating more and having less milk her weight gain has tailed off a little, but have been assured that's perfectly normal - particularly for girls:confused: Particularly as she's a very active baby which has coincided with the change in fuel she's rolling/commando crawling/walking off what she eats faster than I can shovel it in!!!

LOL.. :p @ weezl. It's my mum who likes it actually... was trying to steer her away but she loved it at the Baby Show  Just saw it on a website and remembered to ask :)

elle - my friend has one and initially thought it was great - I was on the verge of ordering one when she called and said that after 3 days of using it is was going back into the cupboard and not coming out again as it was a faff to use, a faff to clean and she cursed the person who bought it for her (her mum!) :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Mfd, have I told you lately that I love you? :kisses3:
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
