I'll buy LO whatever he wants, but it will include a play kitchen and a doll - cooking and parenting aren't just for girls and are important skills.

Clothes - no slogans. Bright bold male colours for ohs sake. Wouldn't be fussed with a girl.

PS, I've been meaning to ask you all for views on gender-specific toys and clothes.

    Quick poll are you:

    a) gonna give boys a toy kitchen and girls a train set
    b) see what LO gravitates towards
    c) max out on the girlie stuff for girls and boy stuff for boys

obviously, most of us are a combination, but interesting to see what you mostly are drawn to.

Also: Gender-specific clothing, do you like

    a) anything very neutral, so others more guess the sex of your LO
    b) lots of slogans like 'mummy's little princess'/'mummy's cheeky monkey'
    c) bit of pinkness or blueness but not too hot on the slogans etc...

    Thanks for any thoughts :)
Jas still plays with her cars and also has a train set and lego which are predominately boys toys, but she wanted them, so I wasnt going to stop her !!

As for clothing, I have to say I am quite drawn to slogan things, but also a lot of blue, wheras with Jas I tried to limit the pink as I hate it !!

I would never have thought of either a toy kitchen or a train set as being gender specific. Even my mum had a train set and she said my Grandma didn't let her have lego because it was a "boys" toy. We tend to be led by a) having a good range of toys and b) what Alice is interested in although TBH most of her toys have been presents from other people. I always hated dolls (except for my brother's action man) and my mum said my brothers got more play value out of the dolls pram than I did (and that the advantage of having a girl first is that you can get away with having things li a toy pram then). I do think about what toys we take with us when visiting my Auntie though because when Alice took her toy fire engine, my Auntie said, "That's a boys toy." Sometimes it's better not to argue the point.

We went for neutral vests and babygrows (for those we bought ourselves - all the ones we were given were pink) to get the best value out of them but we found people would assume Alice was a boy and I don't think the saving is that significant to be worth it. Alice always wears dresses so is obviously a girl but I try to avoid pink simply because I'm not too mad on it and even avoiding it you end up with loads.

The boys both had 'home toys', kitchens, hoovers etc, but I don't think I'd buy Amber 'boy' toys (but she has two older brothers so will no doubt play with boys toys anyway)
    b) see what LO gravitates towards
Yes, but I shall also buy my little pony because I want it!
    c) max out on the girlie stuff for girls and boy stuff for boys
Girly stuff for the girl but I don't mind the boys getting girly stuff.

Boys, yes. Amber, it's got to be girly!
    b) lots of slogans like 'mummy's little princess'/'mummy's cheeky monkey'
I don't but the boys get a lot of slogan things as gifts from their gran/nana, I don't mind them wearing it but I won't buy it.

Uhm, you menat just answer A,B or C didn't you :o

I am very differnt with Amber, she has to be grily and I do dress her like a doll, she has worn trousers once, yesterday after she got her pretty dress dirty and I didn't like her in them! She is dressed everymorning whereas they boys wore mostly sleepsuits. Her clothes have to be pretty and I'd be more likely to buy a gender specific colour for her even if it was more expensive than a neutral colour.

But then I never thought I would ever have a little girl and as she is our little miracle (after being told not to have any more and being told not to have her etc) she is really treated like a princess and it's not just me! DH is worse!

I always said if I had a girl she wouln't be dressed in pink... I ate my words when it actually happened.

Elle - I can understand a bit what you were saying earlier. Everyone keeps saying in a really surprised way how well i'm coping and how I'm good with him. Mum says it is just that I look so happy with him, but I think its because they all thought Id collapse in a big heap (like I did in the beggining but that wasn't baby related, that was other stuff).

    That's the phrase I use.. :o

    *hugs* to you xx

    My turn for a rant?

Hubby lent his sister some money this week... Only a small amount really... But we're really skint at the minute, with christmas coming, a few birthdays and the new shed we want... Plus I still owe my Mum £100 from the sofa... But she's his sister and she's lost her job recently and hasn't been lucky finding one she can stick with since... Tonight, her facebook tells me she's looking forward to going out and getting p***ed...

Wish I could afford to go out...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
