MM, not really. A child can have both, or a child who was likely to develop Autism can have CP because of an 'event'. Or a child with CP can have symptoms of the brain damage that present similar Autistic tendencies. They don't know what causes Autism.

But, a child with CP can have visual and sensory problems that could cause them to show signs of autism, for example Chris is really afraid of jelly and when he was younger many many more random things (some textures, certain noises, some toys etc) and his chewing now. But he doesn't have autism, it's just strange quirks of the CP.

I'm trying to remember if he gazed lovingly into my eyes, but he slept so much I'm not sure. I'm thinking he didn't cos I was always unsure of his eye colour!

Thanks 3 and tara, that's interesting.

Great niece is 15 weeks tomorrow and she won't meet anyones eye. I noticed that I couldn't get her to look at me when she was about 5 or 6 weeks (no matter how close I held her or tried to move into her eyeline). MIL has noticed it more recently and so has one of her other aunts...so MIL mentioned it to SIL (who is GN's nanny) who has said that now it has been brought to her attention she is really worried about it.

SIL (nanny) has asked me to go and see niecey and GN to see what I think (because I have the most recent baby so I have more of a clue about development). If I think that there may be a problem then SIL will speak to niecey about getting GN looked at.

We were all just going along thinking it may be a problem with her eyes and her struggling to focus...but meeting the other aunt (my other SIL LOL) today she confided that she thinks it could be a sign of autism.

I was completely taken aback, I don't really know much about autism so I wasn't really sure where she was coming from...but I guess that you don't just conjure up words like that without feeling that there is some basis to them.

I feel like I have a big burden on me now :( especially as I have a baby who seems to be developing really quickly :o I don't want to get into a situation where I am saying that there is something wrong with her baby IYSWIM.

Now I don't know whether to go and see niecey or not. But I am guessing that unless she progresses it the HV isn't going to spot anything potentially wrong??

Anybody with a 15 week old....they should be making eye contact and focussing on stuff shouldn't they?

Maddy is 15wks and I would never look at anything she could or couldn't do and consider it austism, and with a child with it already I know there is a higher chance but she is far too young for me to see any signs and to be brutally honest (please don't shoot me down) even if she was, what would I do that was any different, nothing, as I wouldn't be able to change it. When he was older DS needed different care but not as a baby, he just cried a lot more. Wouldn't change him now though! :A
Too many children, too little time!!!

Was watching the gadget show earlier and they were advertising the gadget show live for 2010, it's probably the only show to do with techy stuff that I like, plus it coincides with our wedding anniversary weekend :D

I'm worried about my DH he suffers with asthma quite badly and today he has been non-stop taking his inhaler. He promises me he's fine but I can hear him wheezing :o

I think its safe to say if that many people have noticed and find it worrying its worth hinting that she should ask HV about it
Ed has focussed on my face for what seems like ages, he definitely makes eye contact now but I couldn't 100% say he did at 15wks
