This is the exact message I heard too, I didn't take the chance on listening to the advertising and then still have to pay the 35p as per usual. They did not say, this call is free!!

Same detail here. I let it play through and will check my bill when it comes through next week. Hope it worked.

    UPDATE - CAUTION

Additional worry in going back to the site is that it says that there are still 10000 free votes, which makes me think that I might have been charged for the call.

You can only be charged for the telephone number you physically dialled, regardless of where they transfer you too !!......

This is impossible, in my opinion.
    Just do the math.

A "standard" vote on the x-factor is 35p
Then Free2Call will have to pay its technology system costs (routing the call etc.)
    Then, Profit

Chances are, the advertiser must be paying 40p for each person that listens to the advert - which is potentially millions of people. No company will want to pay this much for what is pretty much un-targeted marketing!

free votes capped at 10 000. im guessing they shut the lines after that?

I didn't get an advert just a message about advertising on the service. I was a bit jumpy when it said 'you will be diverted to the premium voting lines' but I waited for it to complete anyway.
Will check my 'recent usage' list on Monday and see whether it is really free.

I think that page is static, as it says "Free Votes This Week". Although as you say it would be useful if it did say how many free votes remaining.
  • I agree the wording on the message is 'odd' but you will only pay for the call you made ie. to the 03 (same as 01 / 02 numbers).

Strikes me they are taking a risk and have no advertisers yet, hence the safety cap of 10000 votes, they will be hoping the callers want to advertise or at least build some stats to try and sell the idea to new advertisers.

I've called 20 times for the irish boys (for a laugh!) and had the same 'advert' each time.

    James...
  • It says you won't be charged for the part of the call that is diverted. worked fine for me. great stuff, I've given John and Edward quite a few votes!
  • Good to see you've voted for John and Edward too jjuk2k2!! :-) They'll go far! :)

I never vote, but I have this time, 'cos it's freeeeeeee!

    Seemed to work fine, hooray!

Even though it's free, nothing would persuade me to vote for those out-of-tune twins though!
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
