Picked up a 9000BTU off Ebay as was getting fed up with heat (so summer will now end
) when WFH.
Anyhow, I did a 'proper' job of fitting the vent hose by replacing a 50*30cm window with a solid panel and cutting a hole for the exit grill as it was obvious that just hanging the hose out the window wasn't too clever.
So far, in a typical lounge, it's been fine at keeping the temp to 20C without running all the time. Obviously, the laws of physics dictate you are cooled more when sitting in the air stream.
However, IMHO it would be way to noisy to run in a bedroom, esp. when the compressor kicks in.
The HUGE downside I've found is that the unit won't fire-up on an external timer, so you can't come home to a cooled house from the office.0 -
I know this isn't a helpful answer, but I have to say that I loathe the aircon in my office. We have an open space with small offices around the edge. The aircon unit points directly at my desk, with the thermostat on the other side of a screen. So I get cooled down to 'hat and jumper on' temperature whereas the offices get cooled to around 26 degrees, (then they spend half the day with their doors closed and complain that it's too hot so turn the aircon down to 16 degrees, but that's a different gripe). It blows the paper around my desk and it smells like a wet towel that's been in a carier bag for 6 weeks.
Anyway, if you get aircon, make sure it's suitable for your office/house and avoid it pointing at one person, and get it serviced/cleaned out reglularly.
