I'd like to get a portable air conditioning unit for my sons bedroom. Tesco advertised one for £149, but when I tried to order it online, it said they were out of stock.
I don't want to spend much more than that if I have to.
Despite having kingspan insulation it was 30C up in the loft bedroom this week, and it's not even summer proper yet! Poor lads can't sleep.
Does anyone have any recommendations for one, or a link to a site? I have looked but the cheapest i've seen is about £180.

Try Homebase as I saw some in there a while age.
Here is a link to there web site, not bad prices for the 2 at the bottom. You can only order on line.

You do appreciate that these devices have to have a heat exhaust somewhere. They usually have a hose, like a tumble drier, which needs to be routed to outside. You probably know this already but a friend of mine bought one without realising this and can't use it in the room he wanted to so I just thought it worth a mention.0

Isn't there any way round this, like using a little condensing box that some people use for their tumble driers?
I really need to get an AC unit for the office but can't do anything with the hose other than hang it out of the window!0 -
I managed to get one of the tesco units today
I used the e-mail me back when in stock option and got an email today
had to wait a week so maybe worth a try
Argos and Wickes do units for approx £165 but as previous post said you need to be able to vent the to the outside of the house0 -

Thanks littlepockets - i've got them to send an e-mail if it comes back in stock. I never noticed that when I was on earlier. Let us know how you get on with it please!0

Timmne: The problem is that it is just hot air you are trying to get rid of whereas with a tumble drier it is water vapour. The machine draws in room air to absorb the heat which you have taken from the room which then has to be dumped somewhere.0

Thanks for that - does the prospect of hanging the hose out of a (small) window sound like a worthwhile one?0

with some of the portable air con units, they come with a plastic template that you fix in the open window space and then you cut a hole in the plastic to stick the hose vent thro' (sorry if the explanation isn't too clear) Anyway it plugs the gap caused by opening the window, so warm air doesn't come back in0
