I tried the mooncup for a week and have to say i found it really painful. It was like dragging out my womb three times a day.

I love the idea of it as its much cleaner, but not sure i can stand the pain it causes.

if you are getting a dragging sensation, then you havnt broken the seal. you need to slip a finger up the side and release the vacuum

is it more painful than removing a dry tampon?

I have been using a mooncup for about 7 years now. Initially I ha a few leaks and it did feel uncomfortable but now I don't notice its there and actully panic sometimes that I've forgotten to put it back!

Its worth noting it does come in two sizes

Size A - if you are over 30 or have had a vaginal delivery or both

Size B - Designed for young girls and women under the age of 30 who have not given birth vaginally. It may also be suitable for women over the age of 30 who have had corrective surgery to the vagina, or who are advanced in tone-maintaining activities such as yoga, dance or pilates.

I'm still on my original, not sure when is advisable when to replace, but mine is still in great condition.

Really, really shouldn't be causing pain to remove it. Trying pressing a finger against the side of the cup so that the seal is broken.

When I tried using a moon-cup I found that once it was in, it felt like i needed to pee (!) a bit like when you have trouble with your waterworks and you keep feeling the need to empty your bladder. The moon-cup must have been pressing on my bladder/urethra?

I think this happens to a small number of women, -from this thread it looks like most can use the moon-cup without problems, - but I was a bit miffed that I'd paid £20 and ended up not being able to use it and having to throw it away :(

ruthiejane, no I didn't. I just assumed that once it had been used it was unreturnable.
• Must say I hated using mine at first got it september /october last year and thought I had wasted my money.I really struggled and got myself into a bit of a panic trying to insert and remove it by squatting which I couldn't do.I decided to persevere with it and
think its great now, I just insert or remove it whilst sitting on the loo.
so easy !:T

It's National Tampon Alert Week this week, which aims to raise awareness of the risks of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Alarmingly, half of all known cases of Toxic Shock Syndrome are women who use tampons.

The Femmecup and Mooncup are soft reusable menstrual cups. They are worn internally but unlike a tampon collect the flow instead of absorbing it without the chemicals or environmental issues.

The Mooncup comes in two models. Model B is for use for Women under 30 who have not given birth whilst Model A is for use for all Women over 30 or those below 30 who have given birth.

Maybe the incentive to buy for the undecided among us.... including me!!
