not being funny, but do you normally sterilise everything that goes up there on a regular basis?
washing it is more than enough to keep it clean. i think most people only sterilise them so they stay looking clear - at the end of my period, i just bung mine in a pot with weak bleach and shower gel and leave overnight - give it a rinse in the morning and bung it in a drawer until needed again - then i just swish under the tap (more for lubrication, than cleaning it) and use

hiya,
no I'm not worried about it being sterile before use, just about things growing on it while it's being stored! I went with giving it a boil in water for 5 mins before putting it away, so now I know it's clean when I next go to use it. I thought about bleach/sterilizing tablets, but i'd be worried about chemical residues remaining and causing irritation, so decided that boiling was for me. Thanks for the reply thoughLittle monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
^^ You can buy pouches to keep the Mooncup in during uses, so that should limit the amount of dust etc that gets on them
Although I don't know why I'm advising - I'm here because I'm a Mooncup virginI finally bought one yesterday online after knowing about them for a couple of years. Am keen to not contribute to landfill so really excited to get my Mooncup and start using it
Just a couple of questions: on one website I read that the Mooncup needs to be replaced every five years. Is this true, or do you tend to go for longer before replacing it? And when/if you do replace it, is it recyclable or do you just throw it in with the normal rubbish?
Think that's all the questions I have for now0 -

Well done! :T Give yourself time to work out how short you need the stem to be, and don't worry if you need to cut it all off. Sometimes the cut edge can be sharp so may need a little 'carving' to smooth it off.
I have used mine for over five years and it still looks as good as the first time- plenty of life left in her yet. I have no idea what I'll do with it afterwards, mind, it's silicone so ?normal rubbish? They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
^^ Thanks - good to know! Although I am 25 and hoping to have kids before I'm 30 so I will probably need to replace it within 5 years anyway0

*bumpity*
Well, kids, my mooncup arrived today
Seems smaller than I thought it'd be but I think that's a good thing! Will report back once I've had a go with it0 -
yay for you! (seriously
)
try the seven fold and get it wet under the tap before you try putting it in.
don't expect it to feel "great" the first time, think back to your first ever tampon... once you're used to it, it's worth it though:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!0 -
Hi all,
Just started using the mooncup today (my period arrived this morning), but I'm a bit worried about the correct position... how do you know if it's on the right place or it's too far...? I get the feeling it has gone deeper since I put it on this morning! Is that possible?
Other than that feels quite comfortable, I don't really feel it...0 -
