  • KeeP trying, but I'd recommend you take a small bottle of water with you to the public loos to rinse it with (you can wipe it with paper but personally I never fancy putting it back in when I've done that, especially as it also makes it dry)
:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!

    Dear everyone,

Just popping on to share an affiliate link for Mooncup - if a purchase is made via Mooncup's web site using the following link 20% of the sale goes to the affiliate, in the case of this particular affiliate link that money goes to support women's health projects.

If members here could use this link if they buy via Mooncup directly, and if you could pass this onto anyone you know who is interested in buying a menstrual cup, that would be awesome.

    Love,
A fellow menstrual cup user x

I'm not sure whether I should admit to this but... I've had my Mooncup for about 7 years. Probably boiled it about 3 times in that time, usually after I find some article on the internet on cleanliness. At the end of the period it gets a scrub with a nail brush and soap and that's it. My insides haven't fallen out or anything and I am a very healthy person. The colour isn't quite as clear and bright anymore but it has never smelled!

I was raving about it to some colleagues recently who were thoroughly freaked out. I said I find it far far less gross than pulling out a tampon and disposing of a tampon in the bin, to which they replied, 'Oh no, we don't look at tampons. They go straight in the loo'. I'm sure even modern tampons aren't biodegradable!?!

I've been using cups for nine years and only boiled once.
I wash wish soap and water, using dental brushes to clean the holes.

Yeah, tampons don't go down the loo - they expand in water and don't break-up so clog toilets and pipes (cost water authorities billions to unplug, by hand, and fix the problems this causes), plus they can make it through sewage treatment onto beaches. Now THAT is gross.

I had to send an email round the office (British Airways, all the men got it too) asking female staff members not to flush their tampons as they kept flooding the bathrooms...mentioned cups too of course. Got stick for days off all the lads :D

    Hi again..

Second cycle with the mooncup and still having problems.. yesterday I had it on since 8:30 in the morning and it was ok for most of the day (comfortable, no leaks), but at around 5 it suddenly stopped working.. as if it had moved or something, and it was like wearing nothing! A bit of a disaster.. luckily I was heading home at that time!

I've no idea what the problem was.. it didn't seem "full" when I took it out at home, and anyway if it fills in that short time I can't use it because in the office I can't take it out and clean it (public toilets), and the small holes get clogged up every time, so I need to clean it thoroughly with a needle every time...

Anyone had this problem? I can't really trust the mooncup if it stops working suddenly like that!

    :(

Sounds like the blood is bypassing the cup, which would mean it's not sitting directly under the cervix and/or the seal has been broken - make sure you have it in position under your cervix upon insertion, and make sure the seal is created. Probably TMI so stop reading now if squeamish

I had a similar problem as I have a low cervix, so if my Mooncup was high enough to be completely inside me it was bashing my cervix and then leaking, but having it low down caused other problems. I changed to a MeLuna, which is a much shorter cup, and am now fine. this page has details on the legths if anyone thinks they might have the same issue.

The position was correct most of the day.. but then suddenly it started leaking , which is what I can't understand, maybe I did something to move it?? I'll visit that page, many thanks.

I've had to stop using my Mooncup which is a real shame as I loved it. It did leak even though I did all I could and followed all the instructions. Sorry if TMI but it turns out that my pelvic floor muscles are too good and it was sort of being squished up a lot higher than it should be and going around my cervix which the nurse at Mooncup said could be dangerous (can cut off the blood supply) - there should always be a gap between the Mooncup and the cervix.

So now I'm back to square one and looking at other alternatives. I can't face Tampax again; they dry you out so much and I was having to change every couple of hours.

You could try a different brand of cup - some are shorter than the others. I didn't get on with my Mooncup but absolutely love my MeLuna

Wouldn't I have the same problem with all of them though? I had thought about this .... will investigate.

I agree, I prefer MeLuna, though Mooncup was enough to convince me that cups are the way forward!
