I tried doing this, and I can tell that the seal is broken...but it's just really painful when taking it out.....its like the rim is too big :-(

Try squeezing it or pushing it into a fold like when you insert it.

I didn't get on with my Femmecup at first, even though I've been a happy MeLuna users for ages and have previously tried a Mooncup. So yeah, you might just need more practise - or maybe a new brand as they're all different.

  • Mooncup is fantastic for travel

It does take a few months to get used to though. I also agree in cutting off the whole stem after a few goes. The advice to relax really does help. But persevere and you will get there.

I find it great for trips abroad (especially trekking ones) when you are not sure what facilities you will have or when you will see a loo next. It takes up so much less space in your luggage.

I was concerned about the hygiene to. But I carry antiseptic wipes with me for places it is not convenient to take it to the tap to rinse or where the water is of dubious cleanliness. You can use feminine wipes if the antiseptic ones are to strong and don’t agree with you. My next mission is to find biodegradable wipes to keep up the green theme. On the green theme, natracare sanitary products are biodegradable and now available in Oxfam. Ideal if you want the security of an emergency tampon.:T
  • Apologies if I've already posted this. I know I have at least once but it may not have been on this forum.
Well I tried the mooncup but it got stuck and I couldn't remove it. It was in over night and then until lunchtime when I ended up in A&E. Luckily I got a sensible older woman doctor not a man. It took her 45 MINUTES to get it out!!! Forceps were needed! It was not a pleasant time and my (male) boss had to be told it was a female medical emergency, so assumed I'd had an abortion!

A fear of the unknown I think is what is stopping me, that and I don't know of anyone personally who has used one that I can ask an opinion of, IYSWIM

I may have a look at the offer that was posted on here and see if I can get the courage up to try :)

So 6 years on and I've finally bought one :o
If it stops any incidents like today at work then it will be well worth it (will spare you the gory details!) So far so good, I'm feeling less bloated after only wearing for a couple of hours. Practice needed on insertion/removal techniques but all said, I'm confident enough that I'm going to try wearing to work tomorrow ;)
Having a discussion with Mum yesterday when I bought it, she said she wished she'd known about these years ago, she'd have gotten one. Then she told my Gran about it today, she said she hadn't heard of them either!
I'm off to research fold techniques, the c fold is a bit uncomfortable for me, I think I got on better with the other punch down fold?
  • Well done! I did the c fold for years not knowing any different, then I did the punch down/ origami and it was complicated but more comfortable, then I found out about the seven fold which is as simple as the c fold but so much more comfortable! I even wrote to mooncup to ask them to include the different folds in diagrams in the leaflet that comes with it, to help women in future! Have they done it yet?!
:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!
  • If anyone else wants to know about the other folds, here's a little link I just found. (The C fold works fine for me but I may give some of the others a go next period- they look interesting.)
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

After trying the mooncup for about 6 months I finally have to give up :(

I've tried using it on the first day (when I'm bleeding most), but the little holes get obstructed minutes after I put it on, which means it's like having nothing on... after a couple of nearly-disasters in the office I've decided I can't risk it again.

    Anyone else having this problem...?

The holes being blocked aren't the problem - your muscles will keep it in place whether or not the holes are blocked. The holes simply allow air that is in the cup to be expelled when you put it in.

If it is leaking but not full when you remove it, then it simply isn't in the right place. The usual reason is pushing it in too high, which can mean that the cup is missing your cervix altogether. The rim of the cup should sit like a circle with your cervix in the middle. Your cervix is somewhere about half to 3/4s of the way up your vaginal wall - not at the top as school biology lessons (and some mooncup leaflets!) would have us believe.

Try inserting the cup rim just past your pubic bone, aiming towards the small of your back, and then sort of kegel it in the rest of the way rather than pushing. It should find the correct place by itself.
