Day 2 of the MoonCup and all is going (nearly) well. Working in an office probably doesnt help, I've just been sat here all day thinking about it!!! No leaks last night whatsoever which was amazing - always very embarrassing, especially staying at someone else's house.
Today though, a very small leak, despite the cup not being full at all. Perhaps I hadn't popped it properly?
I decided though, to take the plunge and thought if I'm going to use this all the time, I best get used it and wash it out in a public toilet. So I did just that, and it wasnt that bad. Getting it out was a semi-struggle - probably nerves! - but it worked ok!
Have to say, when I first tried it - the C fold did NOT work for me at all - very painful!! This is the basic one they tell you in the booklet - flatten it and fold in half so it looks like a C from the top. There was a complicated diagram of the Punch-Down, but I had to watch a YouTube vid to see properly how to do it ((just went to YouTube.com and typed in Mooncup folds)) This worked amazingly well for me, much easier, much less painful!
Its a win so far if I can perfect the popping bit!0 -
Right, I'm okay getting it in, but getting it out is my issue, I know this is TMI, but it's just so difficult, I do the whole "squatting" and pushing down with my inside muscles...IDK...I just can't get my finger under the lip bit0
-
OK some more TMI coming!! Can you practise squeezing your fingers to make sure you're squeezing in the right places (if you see what I mean?), then when you are taking it out try sliding a finger up beside the rim to break the seal, then it should come out easier. I get mine out almost all the way by squeezing as I cut the thing off far too shortWeight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

You don't need to get your finger under the lip. If you can just grab the bottom and push it slightly to one side, that should be enough to break the suction. Then you can remove it by gently taking it out with a rocking motion, so one edge comes out before the other without tilting it so far that it spills. No need to fold it or anything like that.
Whatever you do, don't try pulling on the stem or anything like that! In fact the stem is a completely pointless part of the cup - I think they are there only to reassure people. Once the suction is broken, the cup will come out easily.0 -
I bought a mooncup a couple of months ago and couldn't bear to try it until now. I literally just put it in and thought I would describe the experience as it may help some people who are weird like me.
Just some background, I am incedibly squeemish about everything down there. I don't think I've ever even looked. I am not really sure even where things are! I hate the thought of getting my hands dirty at all, let alone from my own bodily fluids. I am also extremely tense down there. I need a lot of encouragement before sex IYKWIM. I have never used tampons. I tried to have a smear and the nurse couldn't get anything up there. It it quite upsetting sometimes. I spent many years not being able to have sex at all as things just seem so 'tight'.
I recently came off the pill as it made me fat and depressed. So an 8 year break from all periods, it was a bit of a shock coming back to all this hassle. Almost went back to being fat and depressed - but no I will give it a few more months. A friend mentioned the mooncup and it seems great in theory but I knew I would have extreme difficulty with it. I tried it anyway..
So I got my period today and braced myself to putting it in. It was... difficult. But I can see why it might get easier. I used the second method of folding as the first 'C' method was NEVER going to happen. Once I learn to be comfortable down there perhaps it will improve all my fears of that nature. In a way I am looking forward to getting my hands dirty so I can find out there's nothing wrong with it! I frustrate myself at times I really do
Anyway it's in, but oh boy was that an experience. I am so afraid it's going to get stuck inside me now. I also am not sure it popped open - didn't feel anything much once I finally got it up there. I expected it to be obvious. Right now I cannot bear to put my finger up there and see, I need to relax and I'll have another look later. I am sitting here now tense as anything, afraid to walk or sit properly!
I will update once I have the experience of taking it out, but honestly it makes me want to cry at the moment! I am so determined to be rid of those icky towels though, I have to stick with it...0 -

Hey, congratulations! :T Well done on facing up to a fear, that's really brave, and it will get easier. I never feel the mooncup pop open either. I can't feel it at all when it is in.
When you need to take it out, take a deep breath, and push down, a bit like doing a no 2 but more forward IYSWIM. It cannot stay there foreverbeing damp helps it to slide down too. Maybe a glass or two of wine or whatever you prefer this evening to help you relax?

it also helps if you dont have a No2 blocking the way either. if your bowel is full, it can push the cup up a bit higher, making it harder to get hold of
ive been using one for about 10yrs and i still have the odd time where i panic i cant get hold of it, but eventually it works its way back down into reach (as already said emptying bladder and bowel helps move it down). whats the worst that could happen, i have to go to A&E and have a professional remove it with some tongs (cant think of the technical name lol), which is very common with normal tampons anyway
i too used to be icky about stuff, and always used applicator tampons as i just didnt want to get my hands dirty, but i havent had one bad experience with the mooncup. no leaks (unless ive totally forgotten im using it, and its been in all day without emptying), cramps have totally gone, and i dont get that horrible feeling you get when removing a half used/dry tampon
youve taken the first step, it can only get easier from hereonin
