I've read most of this thread but not all, so apologise if the answer is already on here. I was thinking about getting a mooncup when I'm back in the uk next month but I swim a lot and wondered if this would cause any problems. Does anybody who has one of these swim regularly while using it?

Yes you can swim in it no problem, i used to swim 3 times a week and used mine throughout.

(although i also found that the mooncup shortened my period dramatically so I was only actually on for 3 days)

  • I'm another mooncup fan after using one for nearly two years now, and I can't recommend them enough.

To babs57, I would suggest that maybe you have the wrong size. I had the same problem, and after contacting Mooncup.co.uk directly, and talking through the problem with them, they sent me the smaller size which works a treat. It also may be worth angling the mooncup slightly differently on insertion. And removing it is easy, as all you need to do is bear down on it, as though you were forcing out a wee.

Anyway, hope that helps a bit. Mooncups rock!

I got a mooncup last month. TBH tampons are unmfortable and difficult to insert with dodgy hands...and pads are vile. I wish I'd got one years ago. They're not hard to put in and much more comfortable than a tampon!
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

Anybody tried the Femmecup, seems to be the same as the Mooncup "A" size.
  • Never heard of these before and I'm now past the age of periods. However, I've told my two daughters and my still menstruating friends.... brilliant thanks!

I hope that they 'take the plunge' - hehe!

Yes they're a bit fiddly and potentially not as clean and clinical to use as tampons I'd say and the mooncup takes a bit of getting used to for a correct & comfortable position. Not really easy to use in small toilets with no handbasin - without getting too graphic.

I've had mine for over a year now but still experience a few leaks - on the whole very pleased with it though.

The 3 size options are good too as one mooncup size does not fit all!!!:p

"Can I swim and play sports when I'm using Femmecup? Femmecup is brilliant for an active lifestyle and can be used while swimming, cycling, running, camping and travelling, along with all outdoor pursuits and sports.
There are no bulky spares to pack and you cannot run out of supplies. Since Femmecup can be left in for longer than tampons you can enjoy your whole day and forget about your period completely, so long as you remember the 12 hour rule."

  • Of course! You can do any activity you can with a tampon (and there's no pesky string hanging out!)

I've been using a mooncup for over 2 years, I got used to it quite quickly and WISH I'd been prepared to try it earlier, I find it much more convenient, the environmental side is a bonus and of course it saves a lot of money:T .

Be careful to get the correct size.
  • I have a question which unfortunately mooncup couldn't answer because they've never been asked it before so hopefully one of you can help me?
Apologies in advance for being gross, don't continue reading if you're a bit squeamish!

I've not had a period since I had my coil in 5 years ago and it's now time for it to be changed. I'm aware that bleeding is going to happen and I really dislike sanitary pads. I've considered having it out totally and having a break as I've not had a period for so long, I don't know if it's doing me 'damage'. Anyway, to cut a long explanation short, I can't use tampons due to needing an op 'down there' in the past - if I wear them I can feel them and it's super uncomfortable. So, if I can feel tampons, then am I going to be able to feel a mooncup?

    Thanks MSEers :)

I am in exactly the same situation. Had ops in the past and found tampons most uncomfortable. I have used a Mooncup for over 2 years now and it is the biz. First time I didn't cut the stem short enough and did I suffer some irritation! However, persevere, once you get it right it will change your life.
