having suffered fromToxic Shock Syndrome from a tampon as a teenager, I'd never go back, and pads can be so messy if you are a heavy bleeder, so mooncups seem a really good alternative if you can get used to them! Also I have come across wemoon reusable pads which I may well try too.
If anyone is thinking of trying a mooncup please PM me;)

Just want to add another rave about the mooncup!!
I first heard about them about 5 years ago from a friend, thought they perhaps sounded a bit tricky but was tempted, but then switched onto the contraceptive injection so didn't have periods for years. 2 years ago I changed to using the contraceptive implant, and still didn't have periods for ages, but over the last 12 months have had occasional short bleeds, now the past few months I seem to have a regular cycle again (which to me means that perhaps it's taken all that time for the injection to wear off......scary!).
Previously I'd always used tampons but now my flow is lighter and tampons were sometimes painful, so I was mostly using disposable pads, and disposing of them is a pain, especially at work (where we have two domestic-style bathrooms and I have to sneak the used pads out to go into the clinical waste). Then I remembered about the mooncup so took the plunge.
Am on day 3 and I love it!!!! I was amazed I got it in first time with no problems (I have always used non-applicator tampons and an quite comfy with my body though). I was worried about removing it first time but found it no problem (I used the stem to pull it down slightly then slipped a finger up the side to push the rim in and release the seal). It's kinda nice to see the flow, consistency etc and I feel more in touch with my body. As both loos at work are bathrooms there's sinks there so no problem. And also no worries when we got busy and didn't get the chance to go to the loo as often as I'd need to to change pads or tampons, the mooncup copes just fine.
One little question - with very light flow, do people find the mooncup fine still? I'm wondering about getting some washable liners for the last day or so when I'm very light but still need something.
To sum up - I love it, and I wish I'd known about it when I was younger. They should tell girls about them at school - I hated being 'on' at school.0 -
Just got one and 'tried it out' last night. I need to cut the stem a bit, but after reading on here I know that's normal. Going to try it again and I think I may be a convert.
My main worry was getting it out - slightly fiddly, but I'm sure I'll find the knack, and I'm reassured at the back of my mind now that I know I can do it (with a lovely squelchy sound as the seal broke)

Having read about this for ages, I finally got round to buying one. I've tried it several times, and at different points in my period, but I'm finding it really, really uncomfortable. It hurts! I've tried different positions, and I've trimmed the stem right back.
I think it may just be too big. I'm just over 30, have never had children, and I'm not sexually active. I bought the bigger size, but do you reckon I'd be better off with the smaller one?0 -

If it hurts then something is wrong. I'm still getting used to mine and it's a bit uncomfortable, but I've still got some stem on there which I may need to trim a bit more (but I'm working on the assumption that you can't reattach it so it's best to take a bit then try again). But it doesn't hurt.
You may want to try a smaller one, but you may have more leakage issues I think?0 -

Ring the helpline, if you need a smaller one for those reasons they will know. Its quite possible that you do, there is someone further back in the thread who uses the smaller one despite having kids and being over 30.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
My first period in 8 years (was on injections from September 2000 until March this year) started this lunchtime...had bought a mooncup in advance! Took me about 20 minutes to get it in, and open and comfortable but now I'm sitting here and can hardly feel it!
Hopefully it'll come out and go back in nicely! I kept thinking "oooh I must practice with my mooncup" but never got round to it!We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

After reading all of this thread, I went out and bought a mooncup. And I can't get the thing out! It's really hurting me because the stem needs cut down, but I just can't get it out. Oh dear...Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

Seriously? Oh dear! Sit down and bear down a little, the cup should come down a bit, grab the bottom of the cup (not the stem, the stem's useless) and give it a little squeeze, it should break the seal and you should be able to pull it out.0
